Just wanna say you’re arguably one of the best time-piece RUclipsrs. Every piece of content deserves a thumbs up for its humor, video quality, story telling.
This is soooo weird, a Grand Seiko with no date, no power reserve (actually on the back which I personally adore), a sub 39 case that's 10mm thick, and a manual movement? For 8000? It's magnificent. Lug width aside damn I'm impressed.
I dunno, man, I think the smaller lugs look way more graceful than the longer ones on typical Grand Seikos. They're not stubby like the Turtle and not long like a vintage watch. They're slightly curved which ties into all the curves on the rest of the case. It's a perfect case design imo.
This is my absolute dream watch. Honestly, it’s the perfect ‘simple’ watch. The movement is one of a kind, the details are beautiful whilst still simple and the finishing is 10/10. Now just to save the money …
This is the best video about this model on RUclips right now. Great content man, please keep it up! Your videos are of great reference for the watch enthusiast community!
Just tried one on today at a GS dealer in San Jose. Wow! I've never said this about a watch, but here goes: it's so curvacious and smooth you'll be tempted to eat it like a piece of hard candy. Also, that sweep seconds hand is simply mesmerizing. All to say, if you don't mind wearing a watch that might hypnotize you and that you'll be tempted to pop in your mouth when one's looking, this might be your watch. It might be mine.
The self-depreciating humor toward yourself and to the watch community (including myself) is amazing. The review is great too. *sad lonely cheer* Just discovered this channel and bingeing as we speak. Looking forward to more in the future.
I know i'm probably in the minority, but I adore the PR on the dial of my SBGA211. I do love the movement of the SBGY007, and the dial is beautiful. But I don't need the symmetry. I'll stick with the wabi sabi of the snowflake. Great video, as always!
I'm with you. I don't like the PR on most of the GSs, but for the 211 it is gorgeous. The PR on my Snowflake makes me think of snow angels or impressions in the snow whenever I'm staring at the dial (which I find myself doing constantly). I absolutely love it. But on the SBGA407, I wouldn't care for a PR on the dial. It's actually what swayed me to the Snowflake over the Skyflake. I think the SBGY007 looks incredible, and it's everything I was looking for when I bought my Snowflake. I will say it is baffling to me that they include the PR on the automatics and remove the PR on this manual. That's just absolutely backwards of what I would choose in a design. If I'm in the room when they design these then I'm shouting that all "snow" themed dials (or similarly themed dials - sandy beaches, grassy fields, etc) get a manual wind movement with a PR on the dial, and everything else is an automatic with the PR relegated to the back. Seems like a no-brainer to me. I don't think GS's design team will ever make sense to me.
Thanks for another entertaining and insightful review. I’m re-watching your reviews while waiting for the next one. What I don’t understand is why you’re not at 100k+ sub yet. You certainly deserve it. Keep it up!
The case on this watch is superb, elegant, and minimal allowing the viewer to enjoy the dial without distraction. I know this, do you know why? because I am the lucky owner of this masterpiece.
Interesting what you say about the case - I've got this and a 44GS, and I actually prefer the lugs on this as it's more dressy, and merges with the wrist better. Great strap choice btw.
The spring drive is the Tesla of watches. I bought the sbgy003 with a very good discount from my regular dealer. It's now trading more than double my purchased price. This one looks excellent too. My nephew who owns many patek, just bought the white birch, and he said that the exterior finishing of the watch is better than the patek.
Great video! This is the best video so far dedicated to this model. This GS is almost perfect... almost. The proportions are good, no date window or power reserve indicator affecting the dial, I like the fact that it's manual wind. Maybe it could've had a little more water resistance, but it's understandable because it's a dress watch and as beautiful as the dial is I wish it had the white snowflake dial. Maybe I'll just wait for this model in a snowflake dial or for a smaller sized snowflake.
Wow, FINALLY a GS without those awful drilled lugs. Never understood why some of the their +$9,000 would come with drilled lugs as if it's a old Swiss Victorinox that comes with several NATO straps. A beautiful dial and that grey strap makes it ever nicer.
I’m with you on the case dimensions Steve! Plus I love the power indicator on the face of the watch. Watching it increase as you wind is quite pleasurable. This video was spot on in many aspects. We don’t need a story for every watch. After awhile it feels gimmicky. Not original. Love the spring drive manual wind although. I tried on this watch and found it beautifully thin and compelling, but I like the Skyflake just a tad more.
Great review, thank you Youre Terrific. Every time I see a GS I say hey beautiful watch, but for the $$$$ I always seem to have other choices ahead of it.
So, what you're saying is that they'll make the change to 20mm if we keep complaining about the dreadful 19mm lug width? Haha. Sure hope so because a lot of their watches are beautiful strap monsters such as this one. Thank you for another great video.
I think a lot of people are forgetting the SBGY005. It's the same movement but the dial is amazing... sadly micro studio only made 22 of it in the world and was released in Osaka only I believe...
to me this movement is peak watch engineering, or atleast springdrive in general is. those first springdrives will become extremely valuable in 30 years I think
Amazing watch, love the dial, no date, power reserve on the back, movement 😍. Outside of my price range unfortunately, take 3k off the price and I'm in.
i'll be buying it but you're right - it's collectors only for a while, i don't think anyone will ever just go out and drop 8k on a GS and know nothing about watches, people with that money go and buy a hublot or rolex and be done with it
That’s a beautiful piece, though I’m not sure if I agree with the pricing. For $5,800 you could be getting an automatic movement with the Snowflake or Skyflake. It might just be that I personally prefer automatic movements and the spring indicator on the dial.
@@YoureTerrific tell me about it. If it ain’t Handsufzug, I’m not interested... unless the rotor is 18 carat... the very definition of being got by the (aesthetic) taste balls.

All their new pieces have clearly higher end movements like the White Birch already had. But I have to agree - the watch case doesn't really do it for me :-( I REALLY appreciate the awesome dimensions for smaller wrists and more elegant timepieces though. Love the watch and the review but GS are without doubt going to Jigoku for making their watches with 19mm lug width. Nonetheless, in my opinion they have taken the crown for the most desirable watches from you know who. As a bonus, they aren't targeted by muggers, so it's a win win.

if you ask me that 20mm strap in the video looks perfectly fine on the 19mm lugs.. idk why ppl make such a fuss about it tbh.
Nail. Head.
Some power reserve indicators don't look that nice, a new way has to be created
I really like the idea of a power reserve indicator on the back. It cleans up the dial, but satisfies my OCD.
Having things clean and organised while being annoyed with imperfections doesn't automatically mean you have OCD.
I agree, but not for $3,000.00 more.
