it really feels like valve's attitude towards weapon design during the beta stages was "let's add as many as we can and then trim out the ones that we don't use"
Pretty sure you were meant to lose the weapon arsenal a few times during the original storyline, and have different new weapons everytime instead of the original arsenal weapons. It makes way more sense that way
I had pointed this out on another video but originally you were going to the Depot prior to nova prospekt, where you'd have your weapons stripped and you were going to get the stunstick, alyx gun, smg2, m29 (ar2), and the lmg. That's why there were originally smg2/3 and ar1, they were going to be picked up through lab, city 17, canals, and ravenholm. You'd probably lose your weapons prior to air exchange, so you'd get the ice pick, flare gun, and fire extinguisher, then back in citadel chapter you'd get the strider cannon, gauss gun, sniper rifle, and immolator.

There are many versions of Half-Life 2 Beta but what can you do? You can't know which is the real Beta version.
