@Warning: Alert What an idiot. These people have been going through these storms for ever and they expect them. This was a small blow and this area will be up and running in no time. I'm 65 and can remember back to Betsy. (mid 1960s) and they have records of them much further back than then. I can remember 15 - 20 years ago we got 2 direct hits within 2 or 3 weeks of each other. I think that year we had 26 hurricanes enter the gulf that year. I wish all of Perdido, Gulf Shores, Penscola Beach and all points inbetween well. I wish them all the best of luck. And we need no help from guys like this jerk

Federal/State Gov needs to start buying back its coast line so it can implement more natural barriers as well as man made ones. So they can reduce the next 50 years worth of erosion and widespread flooding.
Then again I still don't see why anyone would like to live here since insurance won't cover this shit anymore.

This may sound insensitive, but, in my opinion, if people choose to build/live in coastal areas, especially those areas prone to this kind of natural disaster, they assume all risks of doing so! Personally, I have no desire to deal with stuff of this nature. I am fully aware, that there are natural hazards no matter where people choose to live, but this happens consistently around coastal areas.

True. My Dad grew up in a small PA coal town that was taken back by the government and bulldozed when a mine fire spread underneath the town. It was bulldozed in the 60's and has become a forest once again. The residents were sick over losing their town and willing to stay even though smoke was coming up through the ground and swirling around them. Seems like kinda the same thing, there is still smoke coming up in one or two spots to this day.

In 1960, I experienced "Hurricane Donna". As a child then, it was exciting...the wind, rain, there was so much water. Once I was able to go outside and see the aftermath, my excitement turned into dismay as water had saturated the ground; no clean running water, no electricity ..OMG It was.humid and hot. The heat is on and I knew this would pass, but not immediately. What I saw was real devastation. I lived through those weeks of iñconvience, but I am alive today to talk about. Appreciate each day God gives you. Tomorrow is not promised.

@MrSandPants - They pay an incredibly high deductible when the damage is attributable to a hurricane. That’s why we have insurance and the free market sets the rates. If they are willing to pay such a large deductible that’s up to them; unlike socialism where people who don’t work hard take from those who do. I’m a conservative, and I don’t deny climate change. We’ve been warming up ever since the end of the ice age, but doing what the far left progressives want with their “New Green Deal” to combat climate change would ruin our economy and do more damage to the lives of everyday people than a few natural disasters. I’ve just gone through Hurricane Laura as I live in Lake Charles. We haven’t been hit with a storm this bad since 1856. Excuse me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think climate change had anything to do with that storm being so strong.
Sure we want our kids educated. We just don’t want to send them to public schools where they are being brain washed with liberal and socialist ideologies. Educate kids...but keep politics out of it. That should be simple enough for even a liberal to understand.

I feel for their loss, but taxpayers should not subsidize insurance for those who want to build on the beach. If you build on the beach, then keep enough money in the bank to replace or repair the home. Stop relying on taxpayers to bail you out.

I hope these people saved up to rebuild. Tax payers should not fit the bill for a luxurious lifestyle. Fix it yourself. Hope all are safe.

I hate to see bad things happen, but that's life! I also hate to see people who say why the hell would you live there and say it's their fault. Well the way I see it is no matter where you live you can say the same thing! If you live on the coast or by a major river or where you may have earthquakes or in tornado alley or where you have major snow storm and bitter cold. We all got to live our lives and live somewhere! Is they a really good safe place anywhere on this planet? So please be Americans and support the great United States!!!!!

The only way you should be able to get approval to build a house on the southern US coast is when the plans specify the building will be built on stilts.

And the weather medoligist says this is the beginning month for Hurricane season...geez. Still got another month of this Hurricanes. Praying folks can pickup and rebuild from this. Mother nature has no mercy.😞
