Ever since the Marvel Cinematic Universe took off in the early 2010s, there have been various attempts at trying to replicate that success. Scratch that, there have been TOO MANY attempts at replicating that success. Cinematic Universes are a dime a dozen these days, and very few of them are actually good or successful. I'm tired.

It knows what audiences are here to see (cool action scenes of giant monsters beating the shit out of each other) and delivers exactly that, with the bare minimum of boring human plot lines that nobody really cares about to tie the action scenes together. Proper World building with movie after movie, show after show preventing oversaturation by doing too many projects in a short span of time affecting quality and production, changing tones and themes with each movie. Godzilla 2014,2019 and Kong Skull island are all unique in terms of vision, tone and direction cinematography soundtrack with more seriousness. I think the Monsterverse (Which is a personal Favorite) could be fixed if they fixed the writing and kept some of the human characters. Im not saying its Good or Bad, but i think that it could do better with Returning Human Characters and Not killing off monsters in their debut.

i think regardless of if the sonic movies are called a cinematic universe or franchise, they seem to be building their universe quite well in the same way the monsterverse is, which is what i see a lot of people compare it to
rather than having a ton of required content to watch, you're watching self contained stories that can still link, and the way they're handling sonic movies in particular seems to be doing really well for them, and i dont think it should be highlighted as a failing "cinematic universe"
the movies are beloved, sonic 3 is probably one of the most anticipated films ever, they're box office hits and the universe is being slowly built over time rather than just shoving something like rouge, amy, the chaotix, bean, bark and metal sonic into a movie and then giving each of them a TV show
i mean hell say what you want about knuckles but it's a self contained story that isnt required to watch and i can really appreciate it, they just wanted to do a solo adventure with knuckles because he's so popular

I don't think Marvel or DC can really fix that problem.
They both make attempts when they realise the continuity is so entangled even they can't keep track of it, by basically restarting the world again with a crisis event. Start the heroes over again, establish a new baseline and cut out all the confusing history. But then they add more and more events that tangle up the continuity again, so they have to reboot everything again. It also doesn't help that they keep trying to get shock from killing their characters while at the same time don't want to kill off anyone popular; this has gotten to the point that nobody expects them to stay dead. When Kamala Khan was killed, people were only wondering how long it'd take before they bring her back.

@@cybertramon0012you brought another big problem with marvel and DC comics. stagnancy they abide too much by the status quo and any change they do is only temporary, a main character just died? Boom now he's alive and well, a villain has redeemed himself and become a hero? Nope can't do that he's back being evil, Spider-Man's life is actually taking a good turn? Nah f*ck him let's have him lose the love of his life by getting cucked by a nobody. Like why am I supposed to care about these big events if they're gonna make them null in a few at best months?

    • @cybertramon0012
      @cybertramon0012 23 дня назад +2

@@XD-sc4ix This status quo is because the characters that people will care about are the popular ones, and since they're popular people will want to keep reading about them, so they can't let anything be permanent. Especially if life sucking is a part of their character, like Spider-Man. Hence why they got rid of his company that Otto started in his body.
I also just considered all the convoluted stuff they come up with to change and then fix characters. Like if a hero becomes evil, he'll turn out to be a double agent. Except he's actually a triple agent. Except that's just a robot double, and the real hero's been a prisoner this whole time. Except he gets killed. Except that's a clone of him, and the real real hero has been trapped in another world. Etc., etc.

It’s also worth noting that Marvel’s movies had all of its characters living in the same locations and same universe. The rules of the universe are still. For the most part, consistent. The problem with something like say a potential Nintendo Cinematic Universe is that multiple IPs are separate universes, they don’t have any interconnection or consistent rules and a majority of them don’t really have a focus on story/plot, the main component of a cinematic universe or any movie for that matter. The issues with an NCU dig deeper than just “following the Marvel formula.”
Also most Nintendo fans only wanted it for the novelty of it’s existence, not because it has strong narrative potential.

The cameos are just pure fun on the developers part, again, PlayStation and Capcom do that all the time. Marvel has it easier than most because their heroes already share a universe, Thor is immortal and Captain America was in a freezer for decades. Nintendo doesn't have that privilege, Mario already overlaps itself with Pokemon because of how obsessed everyone is with the creatures in that series.

For some reason, Kamen Rider is now going through something similar to Marvel. For Gotchard, you have to now watch:
    -Gotchard, the TV show
    -Gotchard vs. Legend
    -Gotchard and Geats' crossover movie
-Kamen Rider Outsiders (Which also requires you to have watched a lot of other series to understand what the fuck the series is.)
    -Kamen Rider Decade
-Kamen Rider Zi-O (Both because you have to understand Legend's backstory, and why he is, you know, using past Rider powers, AND you have to understand that Decade is fucking dead for Outsiders)
-Probably more when the summer movie happens.
Just to get a BASIC idea of the timeline.
That's also not mentioning how Decade and Zi-O need you to have an understanding of Heisei phase 1 and 2 Kamen Riders, respectively.

    • @taeoutaba1837
      @taeoutaba1837 Месяц назад +1

Other than say Majade's first transformation you don't really need to watch anything outside the crossover movie with Geats.
If you removed the recent Legend content from the main story you wouldn't be missing much since as of now it doesn't have a big impact on Gotchard's plot.
Outsiders is it's own side thing for people who are already caught up and isn't mandatory to watch for needed context in Gotchard.
Kamen Rider Decade was made to attract newcomers into getting interested in the previous seasons of heisei phase one. It's only recommended in the fanbase to watch all of phase 1 just to better appreciate the callbacks, cameos, and alterations made for the AR worlds.
Zio is an anniversary season and the last of the heisei era. Naturally, the big finale will be paying tribute to the entire era.
Everything outside the yearly rider season is side content and they have been doing crossovers for years with other riders, with sentai and other toku franchises.
At bare minimum, you won't be losing anything of importance by not watching outsiders from the single cameo of Zein that serves nothing to the main plot of Gotchard.
You don't need to watch the brave special, the snipe prequel, Chou Super hero taisen, or Kamen Sentai Gorider to appreciate Ex-aid's main story, and the same goes for majority of rider seasons

The thing with cinematic universes is that they require A LOT of planning ahead from schedule, and the ability to adapt to sudden changes should something go south. Marvel understood this and they left their phase 1 movies be independent films first and parts of a complete saga second, the build up to Avengers was unexpected and earned because of this approach. Obviously the more it grew, the more it limited the writers, but the fact they had actual time to plan was a given, even if some movies gradually started to lose quality. Disney+ is a curse to this approach, because now aside from having an entire universe already set in stone, they have to work 10 times faster because of the mouse's demands.
I'm honestly glad that the cinematic universe trend started to die, but now the hip new thing is videogame adaptations because of the Sonic movies (thank god Sony didn't decide to kickstart a fucking PlayStation Cinematic Universe, ain't that right Chris Pratt?).

The only reasons I’m interested in the new DC universe is 1: I really like James Gunn’s work and feel he has a good grasp on character which could be a good guiding hand. And 2: I feel it could be different from Marvels flavor of style. I still like superhero movies, but I want something different and maybe this could offer it. Who knows, maybe they take a more isolated approach that focused on different types of movies that experiment more than Marvel is comfortable with. But aside from Gunn’s Superman, which I am very excited for, this is still a wait and see prospect both because it could not work out or WB could halt it for tax bullshit or something. Aside from this prospect though, yeah I completely agree with your sentiments here. Even as someone who was willing to just pick and choose a few project to follow with Marvel, I just haven’t been interested by much since so much either feels like more of the same or interesting ideas that got watered down by the production mandates and rushed deadlines.

Here's my thoughts: If The Mummy(1999) started the so-called Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe, it would've predated the MCU by 11 years. Hell, Universal's Monsters IP is nearly a century old since it was an interconnected world establishing notorious but iconic characters such as Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster(and not Frankenstein, you dud), The Wolfman, Creature of the Black Lagoon, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, and so on. They would've actually nailed the 'cinematic universe' trend first, with Marvel rushing in upon more successful films made after The Mummy's 1999 remake trilogy, and the cult-classic Van Helsing. I even find the Dark Universe to be wasted potential as well, due to the reasons above. The 2017 Mummy adaption was so mediocre, the ideas on the connected films were abandoned after. Universal hasn't touched this concept since, and have made good movies based on either side-characters or indie productions of their classics such as the 2021 Invisible Man, 2023's Renfield, and so on.
Also for the Monsterverse, I hope Legendary could get Toho's permission to add Jet Jaguar, Biollante, Gigan, Hedorah, and other kaiju, which means more audiences of tokusatsu or the Godzilla franchise can be brought in due to this amount of fanservice. Seems like a plausible idea, so I'm not the only person who thought the same. Toku fans on social media have the same high hopes so the Monsterverse would peak even further. Marvel should really realize their mistakes as of now.

Monsterverse did in fact avoid the oversaturation problem
that being where the movies release schedule go from 2 to 3 yeara apart

Also the tv shows like monarch and the skull island cartoon are completely optional you don't need to watch them to understand the later movies despite both being prequels

I'm at least glad this was a trend that required talent and hard work to set up. When they tried rushing it like TASM or Dark Universe, they died quickly.
The MCU put in the work and earnt the love of general audiences, it's pretty much why their films are still making money, I'm hoping the same happens for the Monsterverse and DCU

I feel like the only CU that I feel still works has to be the monsterverse. It isn’t overly expansive and is very grounded. Literally. They have their monsters and they can do whatever they want with them. If they want they can add more new creatures. It doesn’t bloat the story by keeping its plot holes open but not disrupting the main storyline. The only CU that hasn’t made me feel like I was eating cold burgers in a dumpster being held at gunpoint.

The only thing that's gonna drag me back into the MCU is if they go back to what made it work, make actual meaningful stories, and release only 1 or 2 products a year so the average human can process it OR if they make a good doctor doom. Preferably Both.

To be honest, a Sega cinematic universe uniting Sonic, Alex Kidd, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Virtua Fighter, Shemue, Yakuza and other franchises like those woundn't be a bad idea if well executed. Same goes for Nintendo. The problem is that movie studios these days don't want to build upon every single separate franchise before creating the crossover movie, they just want MCU's box office success right now.
