This. The daily styling is why I let my hair grow back out. Everyone told me short hair would be so much easier, but for me it was much more work. For people who style their hair anyways, it might be quicker on shorter hair, but for me the "let air dry and put it in a bun"- type of person, it was a nightmare.
YES! I had the same issue when my hair was short (had to style it every single day) and now my hair is long again and I don't have to style it if i don't want to. So much less maintenance!
Yup! I’m lucky enough that my hair gets slightly wavy/soft curly in the morning if I put it in a braid overnight. No extra styling needed the next day.😅😊
You totally had Evie from the Mummy vibes before you changed! So cute! I'm so hesitant to cut my hair shorter for your exact same reason. The bottom flip out is my worst nightmare. But the practicality of shorter hair is calling (especially with cold weather coming). If only wash and go hair looked as cute as this vintage brush out!
As a person who has had both long and short hair, I found that long hair is much better for cold weather because it acts like a blanket for your neck! I really missed my long hair in the winter haha, my neck was always cold. I liked having short hair in the summer, because it's much more airy. Downside is you can't put it up is a ponytail or a bun that well.
The flipped ends just happen in this length because of the shoulders- I had this as well when my hair was short and straightened. The easiest solution is keeping the hair above shoulder length or slightly longer. However I do think it looks cute on you :)
I love those curls on you! For days when you don’t feel like doing to much with a long bob I really recommend getting a heated hairbrush, or a round dryer-brush to flip the ends in if you don’t like them flipping outwards💗
@@Loepsie I recommend getting a Revlon One Step. Not too expensive, easy to use and results in something looking reasonably close to a proper 'blow out'. I could never manage the whole brush + hairdryer thing, but this works for me, if I need to get ready quickly.
The curls are super cute! When I had shoulder-length hair I would do two french braids (starting at the temples) and slept on them overnight - it captures all the lengths of hair and makes nice textured waves
I love how your short hair naturally flips up, it looks so pretty. My short hair never did that, it stayed straight pretty much. I love how easy it was to curl too.
It's very cute and it suits you very, very well. It also looks very authentic to the 30s, not at all in a grandma way but in a glamorous young-model-in-a-shampoo-ad kind of way
I think the shorter style looks nice on you. When I had a bob in the early 90s, I had to have it undercut in many layers to make it flip underneath otherwise it flipped out like your hair was doing at the beginning of the video.
You have a 60’s retro hairstyle. I remember getting my waist length hair cut into that style. I loved it! I do understand it’s not for everyone, but, with a 60’s makeup and your hairstyle it’s truly my favorite era.
You look gorgeous. My Mum, who used curlers until she passed in her 80s, had this exact style (it was her era). She would brush her hair at night and after the curlers but the rest of the time she combed it. The comb just flattened it and gave it that gloss.
I really like the way the curls turned out on you. It suits you well. The hair flipping is because of the length it has now, your shoulders make it flip. a few cm shorter should prevent it. And if you don't want to go any shorter I used to dampen my hair and blowdry (not even high heat) it inwards with a round brush. Had to do it almost daily but it was quite quick. Just a tip, if ever the scarf is to warm or inconvienent to wear, Etos sells cotton hairnets that keep my foamrollers perfectly in place for the night.
I followed your past pin curl diaries with the foam rollers last week with my short hair so I'm so happy to see this video! When i did the brush out I just had no idea if it looked good or correct lol edit- ok so i finished the video and our hair looked very similar in the end
I know it doesn't help when it's not your thing, but you look really adorable with the "flip" that you get naturally 😊 Isn't it so true that we always want what we don't have!
That is just DARLING! I think putting the heavier side in a victory roll or large pincurl would have been super cute too! Your short hair is making the pincurl outcome look super legit. Nicely done!!
I have similar hair like you. And to prevent it from curling this annoying way (i feel you…),I wear it in a french braid, usually i sleep in it and next day, my hair is perfect. I do it almost every night as I found out this works for me.
Coming from a curly kinda girl family the cut makes the hair. It is a way of cutting the hair so it stays wide and thick by cutting the under length shorter than the upper, outer hair. The hairstylist has to be a good one though. I am way too lazy to do all those curlers and sleep with it. I admire your "daredevilyness" to do it the day you have the job!
Yup, the dreaded flip. It’s inevitable (or so said my hairstylist when my hair was your length) because it’s what happens when the hair hits the shoulders. The solution is to go shorter or go longer, both of which would look great on you.
I think it's super cute! And what a timely video to watch upon returning home from a horrible hair appointment, where the hairdresser criticized my hair, lectured me, overcharged me, and cut it too short. Hopefully I can still get cute curls even though it's shorter and way blunter than I wanted.
My hair does that thing too, and I’ve noticed that the longer my hair is the lower maintenance it is. The trick is finding the right hair person and getting your hair thinned out and textured.
That style turned out amazing!! Now I want to curl my hair too! You're lucky your hair goes out in opposite directions, mine just all points to the right haha
I think the style looks beautiful on you. I grew up in the 70s and 80s, and cut my hair from shoulder length to a pixie when I was 15 years old. I think I've had just about every length hair you can have. I always go back to short because, for me, it is low maintenance. But I've had sooooo much practice. Right now, I have a jaw length bob. I wash in the evening and let it air dry. In the morning I run a flat iron through really quick to smooth it out (I have straight hair but plenty of cowlicks). Or I use that same flat iron to put in some waves. I'll spend a little extra time and use a curling iron if I want it to look a little more glam. Having a great hairdresser who really listens to my routine and understands how to cut my straight, thick, finely textured and brittle hair helps a lot. The cut is everything if you want low maintenance short hair.
Oooh look at you rockin' the Evie "I'm a librarian" from The Mummy look!! Those curls turned out fabulous... and I think I'm gonna need to buy some foam rollers (my hair's pretty much that length).
Omg i love it. I have shot hair as well, i have tried doing vintage style cuz i tough it was too short, now i see that i can work!!! Ill try it this weekend
It turned out very nice!! What's even more practical is wearing the curlers to bed. Lol. I know, I know, hubby won't find that sexy. I'm so old school, roll the hair nightly, take a shower before bed, and I had my clothes figured out ahead of time back when I worked. I'm happily retired now, don't have to roll my hair at all but hate using a blow dryer or curling iron and would only use my hot rollers if I had to hurry. I wasn't blessed with your gorgeous dark hair; mine is fine and on the light brown side with gray, and those soft rollers fall right out. I've experimented and prefer to use smaller rollers and keep my hair on the shorter side. I like curly hair anyway, and it calms down once I've done my daily little workout. I've cut my own for years because beauticians don't seem to know what to do with it other than chop it too short. So thanks, but I can chop way too much hair off myself for free. Lol.
Thank you! My husband is used to seeing all kinds of things in my hair overnight, from all the years of testing heatless curling methods 😂 Although rollers are definitely among the less charming, haha!
You are lucky. When my hair was that length, one side curled out and the other curled in and no amount of work changed that for more that a few hours! I think your hair looks pretty that way and it suits you well :)
Short hair is higher maintenance I think. I just got a short bob yesterday from a mid waist hair. Still figuring out how to vintage curl it. Thank you for this video 💖 Much much help
If you get your hair cut by a professional hair stylist, they can taper the ends in such a way that they won't curl up. Just let them know what you want and don't want and they should be able to get just the look you want. 👩🌟
Exactly. They may cut it shorter underneath the make it fall straight instead of flip out. I used to get mine cut that way. It also helps with the puffiness around the bottom when you curl it.
I think you look lovely with this brushout ! It has a very 1920's feel which suits your face really well ! (no matter what those face shape guides may say...)
I love it! Very Zelda Fitzgerald when you first brushed it out. After it relaxed it looks more 1930s. After you brush it out run a VO5 or a light oil to smooth the ends a bit. I also think it looks good straight. The flip out looks like you styled it that way.
You look phenomenal in this brush-out! Honestly, like an old-timey film star magically transported into our times ;) What's more, I want it! The hairstyle, I mean. I think I'll try it if I find those foam rollers somewhere (they seem to sell mainly those stupid velcro-like once where I'm at and those are just useless or maybe I just don't know how to use them).
With the plaid blazer outfit you were definitely giving a New York business executive circa 1976 vibe. What I do to tame the curliness is use a smoothing texturizer creme. It gives a slightly sleeker look like you had later in the day. Add a touch of hairspray and the look lasts all day.
This curled hairstyle looks cute and cool on you. And you don’t look grandma-style at all, even though some older women style their hair like that. I also am afraid of looking old fashioned/frumpy when trying vintage looks, but not in terms of hair but clothes. But maybe if you’re afraid, even though in my opinion you don’t look grandma-style at all, you could use lipstick (like in the video) and a hairscarf/hairband to brighten it up.
I loved both on you (tighter in morning and looser in evening)! I felt like it suited you so well! Obviously, you need to feel comfortable in the style, but it was cute in the morning and glamorous in the evening. Maybe try it with a nice clip on the side or maybe a small roll? I would love to see the next day after sleeping on it. It’s inspiring me to cut my hair shorter! Thank you for sharing!
Your hair turned out gorgeous 💖 wishing my hair would grow out faster What i do after a wetset is roughly re curl it at night dry and I can get it to last for a whole week with my realy dry dyed hair When it's longer it's easy to do some more chunky pincurls to hold the curl overnight with my shorter hair I use my hair rollers but being already curled is much quicker
I switched from robe curls to sock curls when I cut my hair off. Not a huge difference but you can flip the end of the sock around the end so it holds better. And more sections is how you get the shorter hair to go around it. I do four.
The cut can make a difference in how the hair hangs. A professional cut might give you the curl under you want. The said, I've the vintage looks you achieved in this video! Especially the evening one. Just slightly bigger curls might do it. I vote for more "Pin Curl" Diaries.
My mom had that hairstyle, looks lovely on you.she always used sylvercrine in a tube to calm it down.i think you can still buy i just a couple of dabs in your hands rub together and rub in hair, gives a nice shine. Xx
Running a damp comb through it might help it relax sooner. I also have shoulder length hair and find it suits me better. I used to be a die hard long hair fan. I have been putting aloe gel in my wet hair at night, then twisting it before bed. Then in the morning I have beachy waves that last one day.
Styling pomade will smooth the curls frizziness. Just a little pea size amount rubbed on the palms and smoothed will hold the curls and resist humidity.
Hi! I like the bob on you 🤩. To shape the front for a more glamour look, you can take metal hair clips and form the waves. You can also put on pomade, to reduce the frizz and soft everyhting.
This is my first time to this channel. And I this you did a great job and it’s super cute. I agree the when bobs grow out the flip is annoying, but as a hairdresser I will let you know that it also is the way it’s cut. The way my bob is cut only flips at the back when hits the shoulder never the front.
In the beginning of the brush out I thought you kind of looked like Gene Wilder in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. It was funny and cute but obviously turned out great. Truly I love the way your natural hair flips up very 60s bob style I wouldn't mess or obsess with it too much it looks very healthy and flattering.
I'm in a play set in the 1930s, a murder mystery and I'm supposed to have hair like this. I'm REALLY hoping it works with my chin length bob, I'm afraid I might have cut it too short! Your hair looks absolutely beautiful, so perfectly 30s. Your trick of not curling all the way up is definitely something I'll be trying, I think it will help a lot! I'll try tomorrow. Fingers crossed! 🤞
I like this on you! It turned out beautifully! Perhaps a clip back on one side would make you feel more confident about how it shapes your face? I honestly love this look!
When I had a bob I found the bathrobe tie method was too long and a bit of a hassle. Using a silky/satin square scarf worked, put into a triangle then rolled. Once you wrap the hair and secure with a bobble, I then cross the section at the back and then around to to top of my head and tie into a wee bow. It gave less frizz too. Loving your short hair.
Managing shorter hair is all about the proper cut. This should suit your hair type and growth pattern. Also understanding the difference between what you want and what suits your hair.
This. The daily styling is why I let my hair grow back out. Everyone told me short hair would be so much easier, but for me it was much more work. For people who style their hair anyways, it might be quicker on shorter hair, but for me the "let air dry and put it in a bun"- type of person, it was a nightmare.

I completely agree!!
Saaaaaaame!
Yup! I’m lucky enough that my hair gets slightly wavy/soft curly in the morning if I put it in a braid overnight. No extra styling needed the next day.😅😊
Oh I so agree with you! For me it was exactly the same. Now my hair is getting longer again and so much easier to work with then short hair.
I really think this hair style turned out great. It really had a vintage feel!
Thank you! 😊
@@Loepsie lucy your haiir looks so good before you curled it too! I know you hate it but it looks like a 60s 70s thing imo.
You totally had Evie from the Mummy vibes before you changed! So cute!

Yes!
My thoughts exactly!
Yes, strong Evie vibes, and who *doesn't* want to look like her?
There are ways to cut the ends that encourages the hair to dry in a under flip. You want the hair underneath to get progressively a tiny bit shorter
As a person who has had both long and short hair, I found that long hair is much better for cold weather because it acts like a blanket for your neck! I really missed my long hair in the winter haha, my neck was always cold. I liked having short hair in the summer, because it's much more airy. Yes I was about to write the same thing. Cut shorter to prevent it.
I love those curls on you! For days when you don’t feel like doing to much with a long bob I really recommend getting a heated hairbrush, or a round dryer-brush to flip the ends in if you don’t like them flipping outwards💗
I'm considering getting one of those for a quick fix!

I could never manage the whole brush + hairdryer thing, but this works for me, if I need to get ready quickly.
I also use a heated brush to turn my ends under! I think the brand is glamouriser? Anyway, it’s a lifesaver!
I love that your hair naturally curls out at the ends! You could now enter your sixties phase and that would be a great advantage
The curls are super cute! When I had shoulder-length hair I would do two french braids (starting at the temples) and slept on them overnight - it captures all the lengths of hair and makes nice textured waves
Would love to see the big roller/granny helmet brush-out ! You are such a good sport to share all these hair adventures.
I love it! Shorter hair has made a world of difference for you. It looks thicker and this is definitely giving me vintage 40s vibes, which is awesome!
I love it! You look fabulous...

Love the curls.
I love how shorter hair is framing your face its beautiful ☺️
Yay, was waiting for this!
It looks really good on you. Gives me Agatha Christie/vintage archeologist vibes. 😄👍
I like this on you! It turned out beautifully! Perhaps a clip back on one side would make you feel more confident about how it shapes your face? I honestly love this look!
I think it looks really good!
Am I the only one who loves and seeks to cultivate the outward-flipping ends on my hair? So 60's. The easiest vintage look ever, haha.
I think changing your outfit really made the difference. I'd be curious what it looks like over a couple days.
THAT LOOKS SO GOOD!! TS CUTE!!
You and Rachel Masky had the same reaction at first. Despair and then enjoyment. You have to trust the process.
'Grandma-esque' my butt! You looked like an adorable young professor of archaeology! Giving very Evelyn O'Connell's daughter (the Mummy)
Managing shorter hair is all about the proper cut. This should suit your hair type and growth pattern. Also understanding the difference between what you want and what suits your hair.
I love this hairstyle on you 😍
