  • amzn.to/3V6nOT7 - (Link) Android Radio for 2003-2007 Honda Accord.
    Problem Description: The original OEM radio stopped working in my 2004 Honda Accord. All of the lights and knobs worked, there is just no sound! Apparently, this is a very common problem due to failing solder joints on the old radio motherboard. Rather than mess around with trying to repair a 19-year-old radio, I opted to replace it with a 10-inch Android touchscreen.
    I must admit, this thing is pretty awesome!
    Bluetooth, Hands-Free Calling, AM/FM Radio, RUclips, Chrome, Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, Google Play Store (basically install any Android App you want), plug for a back-up camera, AUX inputs for amp/subwoofer, can interface with OBD2 Bluetooth dongle for vehicle performance statistics, etc...
    I've gotten some questions on the available connections. On the pigtail of wires coming out the back of the radio, there are a total of 10 wires:
    8 RCA-type connectors labeled:
    SUB WOOF
    R OUT
    L OUT
    AUX R IN
    AUX L IN
    VIDEO-IN-1
    VIDEO OUT
    F-CAM
    There is an 1/8" female connector labeled "MIC".
    And a wire labeled "AMP CONT" with no connector.
    UPDATE: The latest version of this radio now supports CarPlay and Android Auto!
    2003 Honda Accord
    2004 Honda Accord
    2005 Honda Accord
    2006 Honda Accord
    2007 Honda Accord
    I was worried because on the original Honda radio, the climate knobs are all integrated into the radio itself, so would I lose control of the fan speed, heat and AC?
    But I didn’t have to worry, this unit has climate control fully integrated (physical knobs and buttons - which I like for quick access) underneath the touchscreen. You can control them through the knobs OR the climate screen interface on the touchscreen.
    If you have a broken radio in your Accord, I recommend replacing it with one of these; it makes a 19-year-old car seem modern again.
    The first Android radio I installed was from Ezonetronics:
    amzn.to/3tXq1nx - Ezonetronics Android Radio (note - only works on dual-climate control vehicles)

      How dose that max AC button work on the new Raido you put in the old one has its own button for max AC. But the new android one you put in dose not have a Max AC button so how dose it work?

    • @PracticalMechanic
      @PracticalMechanic  Год назад +4

      Hi, the max ac button on the original radio did 3 things: set fan speed to max, set temp to min, and turned on the recirculation. On the new radio, you have to set each of these individually to get the same thing, ie press the ac button (if not already on), press the recirculation button, rotate the temp knob to minimum, press the fan up button to max.

    Note for everyone, when removing the top part the soft touch material honda used on the upper dash is so soft that if you deform it you will never get it back to before. It's better to just pry from the bottom and not the sides at all. You can see he annihilated his dash.

    Practical mechanic AND practical instructor. This is incredibly well edited and concise. In less than ten seconds you're on step one. Most importantly everything is well lit, wide field of view and narration is clearly articulated at a steady pace. This is how every instructional video should be, so many people get this wrong because they are self indulgent about being on camera. I do appreciate you've shown respect for the viewers time by keeping this under five minutes, it was as long as it should be. If I ever make instructional videos in the future, I'll be using this as a reference.
    Thanks.

Every time I try to do such "easy" upgrades everything goes fine in the first part (removing the old stuff) but issues starts when I look underneath the surface and realize that everything IN MY CAR is completely different from the car used in the tutorial. T'eyes makes a head unit like this one with 6GB of RAM (with either 32GB, 64GB or 128GB of ROM) and some pretty cool features. It is pricey, so depending on your budget you may just wanna go with this one, or even an Xtrons unit which also seems pretty good.
    ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT. If your Accord comes with the large GPS navigation screen unit, or is a diesel model, I don't think these aftermarket units are compatible. Just be safe and look in the product description or contact the seller if you're unsure.

      It will work for both. If you have single climate control like mine, then you attach the y-connector cable that comes with the kit. If you have dual climate control in your vehicle, then you don't need to bother with connecting the y-connector. The instructions that come with the radio have a little picture diagram that explains when you should or shouldn't use the y-connector and how. Good luck!

    Thank you for this video! The AC switch on my old radio broke keeping AC constantly on, so I took out the fuse as I don't need AC. Then the radio and CD player broke, so I bought the lower dash metra kit to add a single din radio. Now the battery will get drained if I don't drive the car for a week, and my internet research showed that it is still the old radio killing the battery. I guess an upgrade like this would solve that problem. Have you had a problem with the screen reflecting sunlight in your eyes if ie. you are driving east in the afternoon or evening? Another issue I can anticipate is screen's blue light and brightness when driving during the night, is there a possibility to switch it off while still having music or radio on, or to turn everything on the screen to red (ie. like with a f.lux app - like setting)? Sorry but I am a virgo, picky and can't help it. Appreciate your feedback very much!

    • @PracticalMechanic
      @PracticalMechanic  2 года назад +2

      Hi Neki,
      Thanks!
      I haven't had issues with reflecting sunlight, as the screen is flat, so the angle of the sun would have to be very specific. I suppose it is possible. I just haven't had that issue.
      The screen brightness can be adjusted, but even on low can be bright at night. You can turn the screen off completely (the option shows up as one of the apps) and leave the radio or other music playing, just touch the screen to turn it back on.

      @@PracticalMechanic Thank you very much for your reply!
      I ordered the radio, installed it easily, and it seems to be working fine. It fixed the AC switch problem, and I have some 200ish CDs in MP3 on it easily accessible, a great upgrade! However my battery drain problem is still not fixed, and it seems to be more complex. When doing the parasitic battery drain test, the level on the meter constantly goes up and down between 160mA and 70mA. I had the new radio disconnected, and it wasn't the problem. Took fuses out one by one, and nothing. I will have to check the grounds and see if that helps it.

    • @PracticalMechanic
      @PracticalMechanic  Год назад +1

      Hi @StevenDaniels, the Android radio has a function (called SW Learning) in the settings to learn and map the steering wheel buttons.
      You press the steering wheel button, then select which function you would like that to be.
      My Accord does not have steering wheel buttons (other than cruise), so I cannot use this feature, unfortunately, so I cannot tell you how well it works from personal experience, but I have heard of other people using it successfully. I don't know about voice commands...
      By the way, it sounds like your Accord might already has navigation. If that is the case, this radio will still work for you, however it does not fit perfectly in the opening, so you will have a small gap at the top. Just want to make you aware of that in case you have an Accord with factory navigation.
      All the best!
