I tried a heap of frozen pastries trying to make Tiddy Oggies. Finally got one of the last of the old Coles pastry to work, then they changed it and I haven't tried it since.
New to your channel and WOW how refreshing it is to find a fellow Australian on YT!! Love your energy! I recently tried the coles "free from" pastry for the first time. I admit, I did end up squishing it up into a ball and re rolling for one sheet and the other I used as is. I preferred the one I had mushed up and re rolled. It didn't fall apart when eating which is more important to me than flaky pastry. Have subscribed and can't wait to see more of your videos.
Oh definitely Roberta, it's so surprising what the tiniest differences can make to our cooking and baking skills! Give it a shot for sure. What do you think you'll try making first?
I found your recipes while looking for GF flour blends. I actually made sausages rolls (not your recipe) last night as I thought the pastry I had I. The freezer was GF (Coles), after it was defrosted, I saw that it was regular puff pastry so my two youngest got those and I had to make a batch of Fathead dough for the rest of us. Do you ever cook low carb as well as GF? I’m sad your bakery is in Perth, it’s a bit too far from Sydney! Thanks for the recipes- I’m looking forward to trying your custard tarts!
Great video. I have a pie maker. I have used my own recipe for gf short crust pastry with reasonable success. Recently purchased simply wise puff. I made chicken pies. As soon as they hit the heat they started to melt and sizzle. The shortening was oozing out over the bench. 😟. When I removed them to a plate there was still a considerable amount of fat in the bottom of each mould. Once cooked the taste of nice although left a fatty feel to my mouth. Very crisp not hard but I think that is because they fried. As I purchased 2 packs I will try again and use your tips. Has anyone else had this experience.
I couldn’t source the Simply Wize pastry, so used Coles. Made sausage rolls. Rolled the pastry and found it ok to form the rolls, but when cooked, couldn’t say that there was any flakiness in the pastry. Where can I get the Simply Wize to try?
Have you ever made a GF Russian Honey Cake? I tried some normal Honey cake at kids bday party. It was delicious, but my daughter and partner couldn't try it. Never heard of it until then.
Hey Carol, I know it can be so temperamental! But I swear by these tips and have used them repetitively for years and almost never have a problem with anything I bake now! So definitely give it a shot and let me know how you go. What do you think you'll whip up first?
@@carolwhitehouse5881 Fantastic! Definitely whip up a batch or two, they are my absolute favourite thing to make, hands down! and even my non GF husband, son and Dad love them too ;-)
Sorry Lucie, no these videos are all 3 years old. My business has store fronts now with out flagship store being in the Swan Valley WA. Perhaps one day when I'm no longer baking 60 hours a week anymore I may be able to return to videos.
Hi Heather, thanks so much for you comment. You can find the printed version of this in on my website, I've popped the link below for you! The reason the video is 11 minutes is the last 5 minutes is to show you actually how to work with the pastry and make my famous GF sausage rolls. I've found that my customers needed a visual experience on actually how to work with the different kinds of pastries on the market and from the feedback I've had it has been invaluable to my audience. I'm sorry you don't feel the same way. Though I do highly encourage you to watch it to see just how the pastry will handle if you follow my tips. champagneandgumboots.com.au/coles-gluten-free-pastry-vs-simply-wize/
Yes it can do that now. A quick note; this video is over 4 years old now and Simply Wize have their changed pastry recipe 3 times in that period! So it is a bit oilier now than it used to be, but is back to being easy to work with and lovely puffy! I figure you can't win them all! 😂
It is super hit and miss. It will depend greatly on the Grade of your Woolworths and Coles as to what level of range they stock. Try another one, in a bigger area/shopping centre, they're more likely to be a higher grade store and stock it!
Have you tried the new Reformulated Coles Gluten Free Pastry? Let me know, what's your favourite? Coles or Simply Wize?

Omg I wish I knew this an hour ago! Thanks for the info. Also, your mic sounds amazing. What do you use?
Thank you so much I love this tip!!
Oh my goodness I have to try this! I’m terrible at cooking, specially with dough 😬

I made your recipe my first try at GF baking and the Simply Wize was amazing.
Fantastic Michele! I'm so glad you enjoyed working with it and baked something delicious! What will you make next with it?
good to know. New to this gf life. Nice to have no more tummy craps and rushing to the toilet.

I did watch the video and it was great. What do you use for glaze on the sausage rolls? Best Wishes H
Heather Hillman it’s egg wash to help brown up the pastry. Check out my GF sausage roll recipe, the links in the description for instructions.
Where can I find a gluten free puff pastry? Please let me know thank you 🙏
I'm going to make Apricot Danish 🤤🤤
what happened to the coles shortcrust pasty

I need to try this as well. Haven't used any frozen GF pastry for ages as the result was dreadful everytime.

I’m in USA and the only frozen puff pastry I’ve seen is Scharr. Have you tried it?
We can't buy it here in Australia
Can’t find your recipe for your sausage roll filling.
