Is it just me, or did anyone notice Laurent come alive once he realized how knowledgeable Teddy was about the movements? What an excellent and mesmerizing video. Thanks crew! 🙏🏼
Back in maybe 2015 or so, I, as a 20-year-old walked into their boutique in NYC, just to look at their watches in person. I couldn't afford anything in there, but they were so nice and accommodating with their time, and let me try on quite a few pieces including the chronomètre bleu. Really made me fall in love with their brand. Hopefully one day I will be able to own one... now just to join the waiting list.
AMAZING video. I shared it to WatchCrunch because I hope more people take the time to watch and appreciate. & On another note, Minute Repeaters are my favorite complication ever. I don’t know what it is about them, just the coolest thing ever to me.
Teddy, this is a phenomenal interview. I’ve seen a bunch of interviews regarding FP Journe but the interviewers always just fawn over the watch and don’t really explain anything, as if just eating up the hype. I actually learned a lot from this, amazing job!
This was such a great interview. Laurent is so passionate and knowledgeable, and you obviously did your research in advance so you were ready with great questions to get him talking and great insights to add yourself to probe for more. The whole thing just felt really authentic and enjoyable. Really well done here Teddy. Interviewing isn't easy, especially with big personalities in play, and you absolutely nailed the handling of this one. You could feel Laurent's change in comfort from initially thinking this was going to be just another surface deep interview to realizing you were giving him a platform to nerd out about the details he loves and that you were following along the whole time. By the end of it Laurent was obviously enjoying himself tremendously and really leaned into the role of presenting all this detail. You gave him a chance to shine and he sure did, but so did you for your part. Again, very well done. Loved this interview. Keep up the great work.
Teddy presents his content at a different level. Classy without being snobbish or elitist. I will never be able to afford a piece like this. But Teddy presents it in a way that I can be a part of the club, even if only from a distance.
A lot of people give Teddy grief, and make fun. But wow! There are very few RUclips channels that exceed the sheer horological knowledge, depth, and insight. And the fact that you continue to get great guests and collaborators on your videos. The TB channel continues to be a worthwhile investment in time for anybody that is interested at all, even marginally, in watches.
Great interview Teddy. I was in LA a few months ago, and Laurent was kind enough to give me 10 min of his time (boutique was packed) and he brought 2 of his personal pieces and it was incredible, listening about his perspective of the watches, the brand and where are the going. It was incredible experience. He was such a gentleman and the fact that he let me try 2 of his personal watches speaks greatly about him and him as a ambassador of the brand
"1/100th of a sec, who does that? Nobody, but its cool" Honesty makes the best answer. Also the science behind the Chronometre A Resonance, is pretty cool they both escapement self regulate by nudging each other. It was Christiaan Huygens who observed that his 2 pendulum clocks would sync when they were both hung on the same board.
Great interview. The contrast between this and the Producer Michael video / the last one where Kevin was being super brash and talking about investment value is night and day. I know different people like different things but this is the kind of Teddy content I love to see! Classy classy stuff.
Hey Teddy, just wanted to take a minute and tell you that this might not be your most watched video, but it was the one I have appreciated the most. I will never be able to afford an FP Journe, but as a watch enthusiast this type of videos are my favorite. Thanks!
This was a tremendous video for us watch geeks and really so cool to have this focussed view with such a legendary maker. Congratulations on this, Teddy!
This interview - what is being showcased, and I mean not just the timepieces, but the emotion - is why I love watches. Truly an excellent conversation, Teddy!
I can’t agree more than Laurent on his point of everything is possible just be patient. Me personally was on waitlist for CB nearly 4 years and finally got it just in 2022. Considering the current demand and market on the brand, I completely understand why it takes longer than people’s imagination of how long it takes to being able to purchase one. I feel blessed for owing my first FPJ piece and I will continue to support the brand in the future. More importantly, the delivery of my CB proves that the brand’s words count! Just be patient, good things come to those who wait!
An amazing interaction Teddy! You literally came prepared geared with technical knowledge, research into the brand, light humour and questioning showing the respect you have for Laurent’s time. I could clearly see he enjoyed the discussion as did you. To me, this is the best video of the year on your channel. I’ve always been intrigued by FPJ brand, and you’ve made it so much more clearer to understand the Brand’s history, direction and thought process through this discussion, thank you and a great way to end the coming year! Thanks Teddy.
Great episode. Thank you. Last month I met Laurent and the team members at the boutique. After a pleasant sit down, Q & A session and having the opportunity to get educated on the brand and experiencing them first hand, I put my name down for a Chronometre Souverain Havana in rose gold. I “passiontly” await it’s arrival. Cheers!
F.P. Journe is one of my favorite brands. I got into the watches back in the late 1990s when they were more affordable and accessible. Then it was a small horology house in Geneva, Switzerland. They also made affordable tourbillon watches.
TBH That is the brand identity. Instead of saying this is a highly sought after and exclusive watch brand they just simply say.. you can't get it. It's the best sales method.
FP Journe has been my favorite brand since its beginning -- there's just something about the aesthetics that really appeals to me. I (think I) remember when a Resonance in steel was just over $20K, around 2000 or so. Now -- well not so much (I see a gold version for $100K on Chrono 24). At the time I was working for a technology company (Xilinx) and my thought was "when the stock gets to "x" I'm gonna get one (I had stock options from a company I worked for getting acquired). Well that never happened and the stock fell a looong way. So no FPJ for me. Great video, Teddy. I really enjoyed it.
A great conversation between Teddy with Laurent, some great insights to the brand. The latter part of sowing the seeds of an idea for a skeleton dial was very interesting. A brand that I may not have the chance to purchase at this time but I can certainly appreciate the time and effort that goes into these pieces,
Wonderful interview Teddy. The vision, art, engineering and quality of this brand is breathtaking. True pieces of art and craftsmanship. While I will never be able to afford a timepiece like these, I enjoy seeing and learning about them. Thank you for your continued in-depth content!
beautifully and well done interview, its like he's talking passionately about his own vineyard or wine label tbh. these are incredible timepieces and probably unattainable. can't imagine the pricing for such luxury. the website doesn't list
Just rewatched this again after a while. Feels to me like the reincarnation of A. L. Breguet with a modern twist. Thanks for the great interview Teddy, we love this!
Teddy Baldassarre, 11:46 It's great to follow this conversation about this incredible watch maker. There must be others who merit a video about their pieces. The top people at Rolex, Patek, VC etc. I'm sure there is an audience for such videos.
Fantastic interview! Very informative and educational. I walked into the LA boutique a few days ago and had the honor of meeting Laurent. I must say I felt a little nervous, as I still have a lot to learn about the mechanics of a movement. However, Laurent was very gracious, patient, and interesting to speak with. I walked out of the boutique, feeling like I had experienced something very special and unique. I hope one day I can own one of my own. Until then, I will be patient and continue to learn & admire these magnificent timepieces.
This video is so good, so interesting, so educational and so passionate from both sides. Thanks, Teddy Baldessarre! Thanks Mr. Journe. Now I love this brand even more.
My goodness that Vertical Tourbillon is outstanding. I just started my watch collection, but so sad that unfortunately somethings will just always be out of reach> Great Job Teddy. And Outstanding to see the caliber of guest you have on your channel. Keep up the great work!
Teddy did an excellent interview with Laurent. F. P. Journe is truly a master artiste watch maker, just like a Rembrandt or Michel Angelo was in their art forms! I wanted Teddy to ask Laurent what will happen to the brand after F. P. steps aside. Is there a succession plan, and will the brand keep artisans on staff to repair these one of a kind designs?
Teddy I didn't know you have the power to bring back to live "dead people"... "Arrogant dead people" I would say You gave a master class with this interview. You understood the star here were the watches so we can enjoy. Thank you
Going to Geneva this year for my Honeymoon. I would absolutely love to visit their boutique in Geneva FP. Journe is by far my favorite watchmaker but I can never afford it !
The idea of making the whole dial out of sapphire is genius! I thought it was an open dial and the crystal is a little foggy lol. But then he said the dial was transparent! How marvelous!
I really enjoyed this! I had a good laugh when Laurent says how FPJ prefers designing integrated movements over modular and his comment, "I'm not a sandwich maker, I'm a watch maker". :)
Fantastic video teddy. I've always wondered about this brand, you see their watches going for crazy prices on the grey market and now I understand why. One of these days I'll have to get me a Resonance; all of these pieces are true grail watches.
Amazing watches and conversation. As an aside it's nice to see that someone still wears French cuffs and cufflinks. Don't see that much anymore. Something that needs to make a comeback.
Man what such experience and what such challenge. That don't look to be a regular enterview but those are not regular watches too. Congrats dear Teddy with this one, you rise up your own standar, i wish u more challenges and more success in the future, care yourself buddy, ciao.

There was also the moment with the offset rotor, where he initially said it was an illusion where he looked like he wanted to get a 'gotcha' moment.
Without O’Leary, Teddy had a chance to spread his wings a bit
@@Talkitout0 Such a relief to not have the ghoul O'Leary interjecting every 5 seconds to gush about the "investment" value of the watch.
I noticed that too!
100% even his personality mimics the branding - 'if you know you know" - you have to earn your right to have the conversation
Congrats, Teddy. This conversation with Laurent Journe--horological content, interviewing skill, filming/editing--is a wonderful milestone. 🎬👏
Thank you for this very kind comment. I am very pleased with how this turned out.

I must highlight the interviewing skills! Laurent seemed like enjoying his time. Exceptional work Teddy 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Insane, literally insane. I know FP Journe as a brand but to be able to do an interview at this level it is insane. Congratulations senor Teddy
You have shown us many watches over the years, but what you have shown us today is something very special thank you.
Very much agreed.
not sure if its just me, but of all the watch brands out there, FP Journe is just.... different
The way Laurent talks about François reminds me of a bond villain where at the end you learn that he was actually François the whole time.

that part where Teddy holds the watch up to his mike should be the standard of joy in getting a new watch
'100th of a second, who needs that? No one. But its cool!'
there are watches for tasteless rich people like RM and Jacob and there are also watches for rich people that have a great taste like F.P.Journe
