    Mr. Anderson, thank you for sharing your art with us. Mr. Brown has given you valuable advice. Slow down. Focus on stances. Focus on individual techniques. How long have you been studying Isshinryu? Each of your katas has a great many positives. There are a number of little things that will help you grow in your art. Start with the basics. End with the basics. They will serve you well. Most off all, don't ever quit!

    • @fleshanthos
      @fleshanthos Год назад

      "don't ever quit" was what got me to Black Belt when I was given LOADS of reasons to quit. Maybe "they" wanted me to quit, but PIG-HEADEDNESS ALONE is the reason I stayed. It can be a positive!

    Mr Anderson,
    As a black belt instructor myself, let me congratulate you on posting your kata online- very brave! Understand a lot of people are negative, & feel free to give unprofessional feedback, with no instructor qualifications. That being said, be proud of what you have accomplished. Everyone's kata could be better, no one has "arrived." I agree w/some about louder kiai's (though maybe there was reason for the low tone?) & more power on some strikes- it looks as though you were "tickling" on some strikes (though after all those kata's, most would be too!) Good luck on your training sir, wherever you hail from!

    I dont care about what anyone says. This young man clearly and cleanly demonstrates what he knows. The work is good. To the naysayers, do you know any martial arts? No? Then dont hate on something you know nothing about. Not everyone is perfect. And kudos to Mr. Anderson for showing his skill. Kata, poomsae, forms. They are in most martial arts. And not to be underestimated. Keep up the strong work

    Where did you go AJ, you just dropped off youtube. I hope you are still studying the art. You have to realize anything that you put on the web will get criticized. Don't let people discourage you. You may not perform the moments in this video like Master TS, but you know the forms. You have the rest of your life to perfect the forms once you learn them.

    I know that you may not want to read this but it is important that you understand just how critical and on point you must be when showing people what your style is about. If I came upon your video wanting to know about Isshin-ryu and saw the way that you were doing the Katas and most f the negative comments I wouldn't want anything to do with this style. You must slow down and take your time.Shimabuku,Tatsuo Sensei did not create this style in this way and he wouldn't want anyone to represent it the way that it was in your video, especially by a Black Belt holder. Do another video, but this time slow it down and show proper techniques. Punches, Grabs, To Kicks, ECT.

      By the same logic where is yours?
      The uploader chose to show this and I have to agree there is a lack of.. oomph.
      For example, his gedan blocks are so close to his body how could he stop anything? The opponent is going to go through you. All he is using is his shoulder.
      Secondly, his "kiyais" are not showing any power or force. They sound like a little whisper. They are meant to surprise someone as well as release EVERYTHING.

I study Isshinryu in Southfield, Michigan, and watching your video made me realize the number of small variations between our branch of it and yours. I give you credit for filming them all in a row! (I have this vision of me trying something similar and needing to restart 10-20 times due to huge mishaps over and over--but then, I'm still brown belt...) Keep it up!

    As a fellow isshinryu student, I shall share my wisdom, during sason, you want to dip down Deeper when you break, for you are trying the knock someone off balance, as for nahatch, you should bring your legs higher as is you are stepping out of the mud, and when you sweep your legs, try to get them as high as your knees for you could be hitting a person in the inner thigh, or just not being kicked. It all looks AMAZING

    Hey bro. Look i'm not trying to insult you or anything, but you need solid hard work on all your katas. they are sloppy, the stances aren't right, neither are any of the movements. Look don't get insulted. take it as constructive criticism and try to improve. You need to be very careful on how you showcase our style to the rest of the world. honestly speaking, this is not worthy. Speaking from experience as i'm a 4th dan.

    Good job AJ. Don't worry about the negative Nelly's. I started at 7 years old and got a Tang Soo Do black belt at 11. I trained 5 days a week, for 4 years because the school was 2 blocks from my house, and I loved it! By the time I was 25, I had another 4 black belts, Isshinryu being one of them. I also have 5 brown belts. I am 52 (50 in my picture to the left), and I despise comments from people that think by a video they can determine your level of expertise, or, that of your instructor. I took the video for what it was......a quick run through, in your back yard. I enjoyed it! After 41 years of being a black belt, the highest rank I have accepted is 6th degree....who gives a crap about how many "degrees" anyone has?
    Here's the question....can you defend yourself in a real world fight? If you say yes, then your martial art is relevant!
    Frankie.....shut your pie hole.....Douche baggery isn't a good quality!
    Keep rock'n AJ!!

    One thing that I wish people would invest more time in with their Kata and overall training is the body mechanics associated with the techniques. What is the most efficient way of using the technique properly to gain the best use out of it? What was its purpose initially? How can it be applied? How were the stances used in combination to offset your opponents balance or put yourself in a position of advantage?

      Again, please understand that I did not mean to disrespect you in any way. After 36 years of training, unlike you, I really don't have anything to proof. By all means, I don't consider myself a master, we are all students. In your case I would learn how to bow first. I understand that you are a beginner, therefore I would mention it in a video description instead of saying "besides few mistakes everything went pretty well" because it didn't, that would save you few negative comments.....and the kia, whatever that is, c'mon??? let's be serious here. Do some research and perhaps start questioning your instructor because obviously that's where the problem is. It is not your fault. As far as me performing? you can visit my dojo, I'm sure you are smart enough to see the name, ask Mr. Google, you can search, you'll find something. Keep on training.

  • @MifuneBoBune
    @MifuneBoBune 10 лет назад

    What color is your belt, blue or black? I can't tell in the video. I must assume that it's blue. Here's a little helpful "criticism" on Seisan punches:
    Punches are popping up, they're too high, not centered, your wrists are bent and your thumbs do not appear locked in. Punches should be like the movement of a piston, straight out, straight back, aimed center to solar plexus, wrists straight, thumbs locked in, elbow following fist. There should be no up/down movement and no elbow throwing. Hard to tell if you're punching with your first two knuckles, but I think you are. The first kata must be your dojo kata. I've never seen it. It looks like a tae kwon do form adapted. Lastly, don't shout "kiai". That's like shouting the word "shout". Make up your own shout or kiai, whatever opens up your chi. In that same vein, when you start doing bo katas, don't call it a "bo staff". That's like saying "bo bo" or "staff staff". It's either a bo or a staff. Not bad for a blue belt. Keep up the good work.

      Demonstrate the correct way to do it. Why don't you upload a video yourself?

      +Mr Krabs I would attach a video linked to this one if I new how. But I wouldn't want people studying. Only knowing each techniques purpose and performing it correctly is worth it. It would take about 20 minutes each kata

      So you're saying that you're all talk and no action? You just enjoy criticizing people on RUclips without proving why their techniques are incorrect?
      Get a life.

      +Mr Krabs Isshinryu is whole hearted. I will not be forced into action by others words. This kata is garbage. And the guy is wearing a black belt. Email me at James.radovichjr@yahoo.com. I will demonstrate proper form and application. But I won't post a video on RUclips. I have trained in 5 states and 95% of Isshinryu karate ka are just confused and wring. Would get mugged. I love Isshinryu karate and it hurts me to see so many people learning this half ass weak version of it. "Black belts" that can't defend themselves from a drunk that use to wrestle in high school. This guy we are watching... Would get mugged. He knows a basic version of techniques. But against a 250 lb mister. He would get Owned. Because his technique sucks. I can show you the correct way. I will send you a video. But not on RUclips. Just to you. So you can see how powerful Isshinryu is. For knowledge and growth. Assuming you already have a basic understanding

      +Mr Krabs and I hate criticizing Isshinryu karate ka. I wish our way of life was taught properly. I call a spade s spade

    Your stance are horrible. The dojo I went to wouldn't allow such sloppy footwork. I remember my first lessons well, each class I had to stay in each stance the whole time (1 stance per class). I wasn't allowed to progress until I understood the pros and cons of each stance. Plus, your balance is off. I guess that's the difference between the American and traditional versions being taught.
