Hats Off my friend, you do very nice work all the time. I like the “clavos”, they look nice and the wood makes the gate look very unique, good looking. Two thumbs up!

Watching from El Paso, TX a border city next to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico: These gates are very popular down here in our sister city because of the high crime rate. We turn a gate like yours into a steel door with dimensions of 200cm x 90cm. We add more cross members and/or steel decor and for added security we add two dead bolts. We anchor a special frame to the house and once the door is installed, it is almost impossible to bring down.

Hey Jimbo! your saw can probably make the cut if you put a spacer between your workpiece and the clamp, on the backside that is, seems to me there is enough space left in the frontside of the saw. some saws even have adjustable clamping.

Your 15” saw could have completely cut the 45’s Jimbo. Just add a 1” spacer in behind the piece to push it out towards you. The blade still had lots of space at the front of the cut.

At work what I do is I transfer the lock to the frame, and I just hole saw it to size. Then for the plunger to go in I screw smaller pieces inside to make a step. Literally not a single weld at all for the lock box. Grand total of 4 or 5 screws and I just tap everything

SAW QUESTION: First, I want to thank you for your videos, it has inspired me to get into welding. Having previous construction experience(custom tile, decking), I'm really looking forward to doing some great projects! I also really like, that you kind of just do YOUR own thing, and not go with what others may do. Ok, the Question. I'm looking to pick up a 14" metal chop saw. And was wondering.....if I get one that comes with an abrasive blade, can I change the abrasive one, with a carbide steel blade(Evolution, Slugger, etc) ? Looking for any replies on this from the viewers as well. p.s. - Will be making my own welding cart as well! Thanks again Jimbo!

Could you please spend a couple of minutes on how YOU handle the strike plate mounting on the jamb? Would have loved to see the other side of the door too with the strike plate provision...Also, it 'looks' like the door stop is welded to the jamb-any special technique u utilize for this little, requirement? Do you glue any kind of pad on the stop so one doesn't hear 'metal to metal' every time the door is closed? Lastly, what about exterior closures- with a door this heavy, if left 'open', and the wind decides to 'close' it, with no cushioning prior to closure, over time, something will have to 'give'. This will be my first steel door project, and I want to to everything right. GREAT video- thank you!!!!!

On the lock box, you could have welded it in on one side and then just used a hole saw through the other side and eliminated cutting and boxing the back side of the gate. All doorknobs that I have seen the screws are long enough to reach a true 2" door. Save you a little time to do that in the future.
