@VodkaHellstorm Yep people don't get that, if the pellet does 35 damage, as soon as you lose even 1 point of damage to drop off..its not a 1 pellet kill anymore..
.50 BMG in a shotgun round is really bad IRL. I remember seing a test of it and the projectile had a really hard time going straight, it quite literally flipped sideways, so it's understandable that the pen value would be bad.
The thing everyone forgets is 12Ga is appx 73 Cal, so you're firing a projectile that's 2/3 the size of your bore, of course it's going to be as accurate as a blunderbuss.
Flechette's spread is actually an upside instead lf a downside with thw shotgun buffs. Since theyre separate projectiles, you dont have ro perfectly aim at your enemy to hit. This is amazing when doing extremely quick peeks and firing befire going for cover. This allows near instantaneous peeks that dont require high precision*
Flechette is definitely what I want in factory or any close range engagements. But I almost always use ap-20 for anything else, such as the tasks on woods etc.
@@captjc4415 At 50-75m on woods, buckshot is still reliable vs scavs. You will obviously need to shoot more because many of the pellets will miss, but some will also hit if your aim is a bit off, so it's not all bad.
I really love using flechette and movement to outplay my opponents. The spread is a little bit more than most 12/70 ammo so if you're not 100% on target they are still going to get hurt. And also with both high flesh and high pen it's great against a various range of targets as long as you stay away from those long range battles. It's also great as a tactical tool. When I just want to extract I might shoot 1 or 2 rounds at an enemy and then run away, almost being positive that I've incapacitated them in one way or another from pursuing me. Flechette + the high ergo, high accuracy of the mossberg shotgun makes the accuracy penalty is not that noticeable. I don't see a lot of people talking about how inaccurate most shotguns feel at most ranges. Mossberg is the most consistent one for me and I know exactly how it will handle. Not having to fight to much RNG in the gun mechanics makes the gunplay a lot more predictable.
Flechette hands down. If I'm in any sort of gunfight less than 50m or so, I don't want to have to worry about maybe needing to hit the target with 3 or 4 direct chest shots with the AP-20 if they have good armor. Better to just unload with a saiga.
I'd argue flechette is better at very close range, but AP20 is more flexible, especially at further ranges. Personally I'd rather know I can hit targets far away (because let's be honest, unless you're in factory you won't get to decide how far away your targets are half the time) and close up.
Flechette does seem very good for anything close but in many cases on Woods, Shoreline, Customs in the outside areas you'd be better off with AP-20 I'd think. Maybe good idea to take a long range rifle, or maybe 5-7, along when using flechette on those long distance maps?
@@clamum I agree that on those maps, AP20 may be suited for more situations, but I also think it comes down to playstyle. If I have flechette, I will be doing my best to not peek or give angles at long range, I.E. flank on the back side of a hill to close the distance, play indoors, hug cover, etc. What you said about a rifle is nice too - sometimes early wipe it combos well with a barebones/scoped mosin just in case
Ive been an AP20 girl for a while but I'm definitely gonna bring flechette more often when I intend to get close up. Might also consider bringing a pistol as ranged backup when I do.
Ap-20 is fun but flechette if I really want to just push aggressive. Ap-20 might as well just use a dmr at that point if you want to snipe. Hell the 366 vepr makes more sense when you increase the range
Thing is that silenced shotguns barely make any sound when firing them so you can drop people from range and they won't have clue where shots are coming from if it takes multiple.
What is the best ammo for shooting sprinting targets at range? I.e. which bullets travel the fastest/need the least amount of lead/have the least drop? Do bullets lose pen power over distance/are they more likely to fragment at extreme ranges vs inside 100m? How big of a difference is a 3+moa rifle vs a sub-moa (260mm m4 vs say a FAL) for spread cone? Is moa accuracy implemented correctly in Tarkov?
Saiga with flechette looks pretty scary even from a distance If you miss with a slug you do 0 dmg but the spread is surely going to catch your armor legs and arms if not even kill you which is another consideration, you don't need to be as accurate and you can just peak and shoot unlike using slugs where you have to take your time to aim...
AP 20 is for the ranged engagements, whilst Flechette is the CQB. It's always satisfying to kill those juiced out M4 users in Factory with Flechette lol! 20g for next test?
Have you ever tested alternating rounds? Like shredding the armour with a flechette and following up with a round that does the maximum damage to soft tissue. Something like RIP.
I like the Poleva-6u slug, its accessible early and does decent overall. Flechette and 6.5 are also a decent early choice. I find the FTX are also comparable to the Poleva-6u slugs.
Forgot one thing.. Express buckshot have a chance to NOT onetap head (35 DMG vs 35 health)... Just a distance can make it... In this way 7mm or 5.25 are way better than express for anything like 10-15 meters and more.
To everybody saying "Yeah AP20 is the best" Why exactly are you running a shotgun? SNB does the exact same job, M80 does the Job. Cheaper, with more range, higher mag capacity. You're paying twice the Amount for something that can fail to pen class 4 Armor and sacrficing either Full Auto or Mag Capacity.
Exactly! Its really dumb. if i choose to use a shotgun im using flechette and magnum buck because when I shoot a shotgun, I want it to fulfill its actual intended purpose of spreading out over a target...
You say SNB and M80 do the same job, but you forget that they dont even have half the damage of AP-20. AP-20 still inflicts massive damage with shots that dont hit center mass where as SNB and M80 will take more than twice the amount of shots to do the same.
Good to see the in depth analysis, could you add a price check to each one? Obviously it wouldn't be 100% but it's be neat to see for example the roubles difference between flechette and AP-20

From when I first took a quick look at the ammo charts, flechet seemed like a no brainer right away, never really got the AP20 hype. I mean yes, you get the extended distance, but you also need to nail all your shots which is easier said than done, and why even use a shotty at that point? With flechet you might not land all the rounds, but you can also "miss" and still land some hits, much easier to spam, especially if you're aiming at a group of players. Glad to see the testing more or less lined up with what I thought.
You missed the perfect leg meta sniping meme, the SF slug with the top of the class 4.0 moa and a possible to tap to leg since it has 220 dmg and only 439 is needed. Bonus meme: muzzle velocity is higher than 762x39s when fired from modded 153s.
But what about superformance? It has 220 damage while a PMC has 440 health. Should be enough to two-shot a leg unless the game does some rounding shenanigans. That coupled with its insane accuracy bonus can make it a better RIP, not to mention they can be bought from traders unlike RIPs.
So my question is, do I shoot armor or go for leg meta? I try to shoot in the chest/head area but it doesnt seem like I can kill people(maybe im just bad at aiming in this particular game). I use AP-20 and magnum buckshots, I guess I will have to try flechette and expresso nespresso rounds as well...
Try Flechette you don't need to worry about where you aim. Just point at the general direction and spam. Ain't got to be that accurate as well, you gonna rekt limps, armor and head.
Just to let ya know, I think from my recollection people have tried 50 bmg in a shotgun shell, and the main problem is the lack of normal 50bmg amounts of powder in the shell, and the lack of a rifled barrel, it sucks ass at penetration.
What's really dumb with AP-20, however, is I was one tapped with it through my altyn. I don't understand it myself. In the health screen is showed one count of damage from it and that was literally all the damage I had from the raid. I heard one shot as well so I doubt it glitched. Legit one tapped through level 5, I feel that to some extent AP-20 has it's own bugs and manages to pen higher tier armors.
i've always loved flechette, but after a few situations where I was dumping my mag onto scavs 20 feet away, not being able to kill them, I gave up on it. i get 1 tapped by buckshot from 50 feet away, I would've thought that after 9 rounds or so, i'd be able to whittle down their naked ass head for the kill with flechette, but it rarely happens lol.
Just got killed by a pistol pmc with armor when using flechette, I got 17 dart hits on him and did almost 400 damage and I lost the fight lol, flechette can definitely let u down whereas slugs are just down to whether or not you can actually hit without any spread aiding you
Protip, dont use flechette at long range? Lol its accuracy is shit, and it can’t even 1 tap the head with a single pellet, using it for cqc only is a given
@@tirushone6446 That was true then, but there have been a lot of patches since. Have a look at the ballistics table on the wiki, I'm pretty sure it still has better pen and enough dmg for 1 chest tap for cheaper.

GJ in testing it, I love to use a modded saiga with just 82 vetical recoil, flashlight and drummag. this gun is insane in close combat, still decent on medium range if i get a few hits on the target. But I would like to see, on which distance the fleshdamage/armor damage of those flechette are going down. Is it possible to kill a person from a distance of 100 meters through thorax?
@@robertdover5185 Yeah, true. A well modded out shotgun makes it a lot easier though especially if you do hit them in the legs, they can't exactly move much anymore. My gripe with going for armor is that RIP slug isn't supposed to be a kill round: too much reliance on your own accuracy, you need the drop on the enemy, etc... If you want that, just go with magnum buckshot you have a much higher chance to headshot a guy or causing him to bleed or just leg meta him if close.
Actually, .50 BMG slug shoild be like worst ammo since the 12.7 round does not actually fly in the air as we expected. It tumbles and spinning while flying the air so it can't really do a damage to armor irl. Shooting 50 bmg 12gauge rounds to armor is like throwing rocks to steel.
The .50 BMG round that we see in Tarkov is not an actual full on .50 BMG bullet. The actual piece of metal that is being sent down range is a cut off of the normal boat tail bullet design. While you certainly can put a full .50 BMG bullet in a shotgun shell, if you go online to look that up, you'll see quickly that the bullet extends further than the plastic shell. You can load that in a shotgun via the breech, but you can't load it into the magazine safely. While of course this is a video game, and most of this doesn't mean too much because as a video game, the mechanics are completely made up, I felt like I should explain it, because it is an important distinction. Its why the description for the round is the way it is. Someone is just cutting a bullet in half and stuffing it in a shotgun shell.
Just got 17 hits on an armored pistoleer PMC with flechette (with like 3 or 4 chest shots), did 370 dmg and only like 120 was absorbed by armor, before he shot me through my helmet. It was a good fight but I kept waiting for the flechette to do its job and it failed me lol
My suggestion: go for hollowpoint slugs for initiating fights or disabling their movement with a shot to their legs and magnum buckshot for finishing/doing huge amounts of damage to the enemy.
I kill Killa quite reliably with 2-3 AP-20, the downside his mask is always 0-roed. I generally I go for 5Flech+5AP-20 (in saiga 10 round mag) and I almost never seen person surviving, even if I miss 2-3.
Most of my engagements are close range anyways, so flechette is king in my book. I always said if they made the view on scopes better for shotguns, I'd be sniping with AP-20s 😎

As well as the fact it’s moving so much slower out of a shotgun vs rifle
The thing everyone forgets is 12Ga is appx 73 Cal, so you're firing a projectile that's 2/3 the size of your bore, of course it's going to be as accurate as a blunderbuss.
I've seen a video testing flechette rounds IRL as well and it the penetration was very disappointing
Express is great. That extra pellet helps a lot when going for the head, eyes
Express is very underrated. It has much better accuracy than all other buckshot and has that extra pellet.
I always run flettche with MP153 in resort. It's really insane in CQB for the ability to headshot lv3 visor without accurate aim.
It still is AP20, however, this video made me look at flechette from a different point of view. I had no idea it did this much damage to armor.
that way even if you die, they still have to repair/replace their slicc. lol
@@SpaceMissile this alone helps me sleep at night lol
Flechette's spread is actually an upside instead lf a downside with thw shotgun buffs. Since theyre separate projectiles, you dont have ro perfectly aim at your enemy to hit.
This is amazing when doing extremely quick peeks and firing befire going for cover. This allows near instantaneous peeks that dont require high precision*
Get out of here Stalker!
Flechette is definitely what I want in factory or any close range engagements. But I almost always use ap-20 for anything else, such as the tasks on woods etc.
Same
@@captjc4415 At 50-75m on woods, buckshot is still reliable vs scavs. You will obviously need to shoot more because many of the pellets will miss, but some will also hit if your aim is a bit off, so it's not all bad.
@@B.D.B. nah ill stick with my 153 and ap20 rounds. Thrm 80m+ headshots and thorax kills feel so good
Nice vid as always. The zoom at 10:09 it make me a little sick LUL
7:50 thx for keeping that in ;D it makes those videos more human and funnier ;P
9:06 indishting ;D very good video tho man these videos help a lot!
I find flachette really great for squad play because it annihilates armor, making enemies easier to kill in groups
@@korassssssss it's got a quirk, it's viable in the sense it can drop people, but just not optimal for the role
What kind of strange dystopian watch mojo intro was that? 😂😂 I loved it
What is the best ammo for shooting sprinting targets at range?
I.e. which bullets travel the fastest/need the least amount of lead/have the least drop?
Do bullets lose pen power over distance/are they more likely to fragment at extreme ranges vs inside 100m?
How big of a difference is a 3+moa rifle vs a sub-moa (260mm m4 vs say a FAL) for spread cone?
Is moa accuracy implemented correctly in Tarkov?
Saiga with flechette looks pretty scary even from a distance
If you miss with a slug you do 0 dmg but the spread is surely going to catch your armor legs and arms if not even kill you which is another consideration, you don't need to be as accurate and you can just peak and shoot unlike using slugs where you have to take your time to aim...
I do this and it works must 2 amor pen the 1 soft rense wash repeat said process
Can we talk about how his shotgun could shoot 10 times
He cut it out after the 9th shot. Not hard to see at all.
@@SonOfAThreat IT WAS SO EASY FOR YOU HUH? MR SMART MAN HUH?
@@SonOfAThreat ooo rationed by DAXE
To everybody saying "Yeah AP20 is the best"
Why exactly are you running a shotgun?
SNB does the exact same job, M80 does the Job. Cheaper, with more range, higher mag capacity.
You're paying twice the Amount for something that can fail to pen class 4 Armor and sacrficing either Full Auto or Mag Capacity.
Exactly! Its really dumb. if i choose to use a shotgun im using flechette and magnum buck because when I shoot a shotgun, I want it to fulfill its actual intended purpose of spreading out over a target...
Tasks.
well...task....
You say SNB and M80 do the same job, but you forget that they dont even have half the damage of AP-20. AP-20 still inflicts massive damage with shots that dont hit center mass where as SNB and M80 will take more than twice the amount of shots to do the same.
Shotguns is incredible useless in tarkov, thats disgusting.
Good to see the in depth analysis, could you add a price check to each one? Obviously it wouldn't be 100% but it's be neat to see for example the roubles difference between flechette and AP-20
Once you unlock jaeger, the price of either doesnt really matter. Great to see the diff though. Shotgun shells r cheap.
@@tetohamaroo True but iirc AP20 is like level 4 which isn't quick, idk what flechette is , so it'd be kinda neat to see imo for some late game trader stuff.
@@Usernameneverseen Flechette is level 3 Jaeger for 77rub. Ap 20 is lvl 4 for 196rub. Flechette never sells in black market, yet ap20 always sells for 850rub a shell on there. Workbench in hideout makes 120 ap-20 shells for one red gunpowder and one Hard drive. Sorry if ur new bro. Jaeger is a shit to level up but it isnt too hard since most of his missions require killing scavs early. The later ones are so rough. Will take me a whole day to finish one since im bad lol. gl
BTW i dont know which level of workbench it is
Depends the map if it is customs I will pack ap 20 and have flechette in my pocket and factory ill have flechette and no ap 20 most other maps the same as customs
Been using saiga a lot this wipe.
Magnum buck is my go to for taking off faces or legs.
If I wanted to use ap20 why wouldn’t I just use an actual gun for one projectile.
For me flechette is super inconsistent, I’ve never really liked using it
Awesome. Very useful. That AP-20 accuracy is surprising to say the least.
Quality Vid keep up the good work vox just here to help you out with the algorithm :)
My favs Flechettes i accidently 1 tapped my buddies head through lvl 3 and both he and i were shocked when he dropped... so i just loved them since.
But what about superformance? It has 220 damage while a PMC has 440 health. Should be enough to two-shot a leg unless the game does some rounding shenanigans.
That coupled with its insane accuracy bonus can make it a better RIP, not to mention they can be bought from traders unlike RIPs.
8:34 It's best to run AP-20 if you're planning on using the Salvo. If Flechette, use the Choke
Can we talk about how detailed the shells are? Holy shit
It’s why I love this game
Ap20 shell is so accurate
@vox_e did you test rip slugs against armor? curious how it does compared to the flechette ammo
AP-20 if I'm only taking in one weapon. Flechette if I have something else equipped for ranged engagements.
Can you test 7.62x39?
So my question is, do I shoot armor or go for leg meta? I try to shoot in the chest/head area but it doesnt seem like I can kill people(maybe im just bad at aiming in this particular game).
I use AP-20 and magnum buckshots, I guess I will have to try flechette and expresso nespresso rounds as well...
Try Flechette you don't need to worry about where you aim. Just point at the general direction and spam. Ain't got to be that accurate as well, you gonna rekt limps, armor and head.
Thanks for all your work on these videos, Vox!
I just got 1 tapped from ap20 with lvl 4 armour from like 200m away tarkov is a bitch sometimes
Flechette is my go-to
If you can hit you shots in the head, you can just 1-tap and secure a kill
Fletchetts IRL is quite insane. Never seen something so penetrated.
i've always loved flechette, but after a few situations where I was dumping my mag onto scavs 20 feet away, not being able to kill them, I gave up on it. i get 1 tapped by buckshot from 50 feet away, I would've thought that after 9 rounds or so, i'd be able to whittle down their naked ass head for the kill with flechette, but it rarely happens lol.
Lol its accuracy is shit, and it can’t even 1 tap the head with a single pellet, using it for cqc only is a given
Good ole Aussies, "Some of UZE may be wondering" Love it ahah
Here I am thinking about the ftx round. The budget ap20.
12.7 mm Ash-12 ammo testing when?

Don't bother with that gun. You'll get better results with the VPO-209 and .366 AP for much less.

@@tirushone6446 That was true then, but there have been a lot of patches since. Have a look at the ballistics table on the wiki, I'm pretty sure it still has better pen and enough dmg for 1 chest tap for cheaper.
So it makes sense to carry both types of flech for CQ when you don't have time to aim, and AP for long range. Though I'd say 20AP are more reliable.
All these testing videos need to be redone now that they've fixed the blacked limb bugs.
Long shots = AP-20, close shots = fleshetta

Magnum bucksshot works miracles for me since it does over 35 damage to one shot a head
Green poleva from jager in the 153 or saiga, it just works, I don't know how, but it just works

this gun is insane in close combat, still decent on medium range if i get a few hits on the target.
But I would like to see, on which distance the fleshdamage/armor damage of those flechette are going down.

How about a mix of 2? Flechette & AP-20.
i only like running a shotgun on factory and i have to say magnum buckshot always does me proud
Reserve and Factory flachette is really good even if you don’t get the drop on someone
Why not test rip slugs against any of the armor? The pure damage of the round would likely deal quite a bit of blunt damage even with good armor.
Why aim for armor when you can hit their legs and stop their movement?
@@retagainez easier said than done most of the time
@@robertdover5185 Yeah, true.
How about RIP ammo? It’s so expensive but is it effective ?
VoX doing gods work, keep it up brother
Bmg at shotgun velocity behind a shell isnt the same as a barret 50 cal shooting it
idk y but the 8.5 slaps really hard even from longer distance
Does anyone know how a choke reacts to flechette or buck? Do you get a tighter spread?
Exit camping with flechette is so fun it my go to ammo for shotguns.
Just saying but the .50 bmg slug isnt the same as shooting a rifle cartridge .50 bmg just look up shotgun .50 bmg
@@retagainez not a bad suggestion. It's damn hard to win a 1v1 or a 1v2 in my experience if I start the fight by having a blacked leg
@@sgtjohnson49 Yup
@@sgtjohnson49 its just a lot easier to guarantee a blacked-out leg than to worry about face tapping or thorax shooting a guy 3-4 times
I kill Killa quite reliably with 2-3 AP-20, the downside his mask is always 0-roed. I generally I go for 5Flech+5AP-20 (in saiga 10 round mag) and I almost never seen person surviving, even if I miss 2-3.
You should try out the star ammo, I heard its good.
How did i get oneshot by ap-20 to thorax when i had defender tier 5 armor
theres always some chance to pen, and ur chest doesnt like that 160 damage slug in it
im using magnum 8.5 to shoot around chest with the idea to hit face on the range. or someth like this
The gorilla sized arm hitboxes catch 90% of the flechettes for me making it wildly inconsistent
Yeah, thats why I use AP20 or 8.5 magnum. I'm either aiming with the slugs or im looking to shred the targets arms/legs/stomach and face if im lucky.
Usefull guide, I run 7mm buckshot and it destroys everything if you go for the legs.
Would alternating rounds between ap and flechette be good in something like a saiga or should I do one or the other. Aps just a bit expensive
