      Congrats on your new MA2! It's an awesome little drone, you're going to love it! This year has been pretty rough so far, getting out and flying your drone for fun is a great way to sit back unwind a bit. I'm finally able to get back to RUclips and make videos more consistently. I hope the rest of your year is great and you can get all your things done! Thanks for watching and commenting, Roland.

      The new zoom function is pretty awesome! I'm going to do some testing if it's better to shoot in 4K and zoom in post, or if it's better to shoot in 1080 and zoom in camera while flying. I love the DJI is adding new features all the time! I'm eagerly awaiting the smart controller update! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    • @benmiller8782

      Aerial Guide definitely record in 4K, and zoom either in camera or in post, it’ll give you the exact same result, right? There is no optical zoom, so recording in 1080p and zooming in camera will look just as bad as 1080p post zoomed. Am I wrong?

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  3 года назад

      @@benmiller8782 Youre right. It's not optical zoom. Editing in 1080p, filming in 4k and then scaling in post will give you the best results. I haven't done any testing just yet to say what will get you the best quality with the 'zoom' feature in drone while flying. Will make another video when I can do some more testing.

    Yep, like you (and most everyone else I suspect) I have a box filled with unused accessories for every drone I own or ever owned. It's just the nature of the game as we try to optimize our setup, so it's highly useful that you approach this topic from the standpoint of what is used the most as opposed to what is merely just useful. BTW , I would recommend not using the Western digital , or any other external spinning HDD to store your files. I have had to dispose of three of these things over the years and am now using Samsung T5 SSDs to store my stuff. They are an older model but a great bargain and lightning fast on my Apple M1 mini.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  3 года назад

      Yeah, same hrere. I have a ton of unused accessories for all of my drones. Partly because I want to try them out to review on this RUclips channel, but also because I think they could be useful for me while out flying. So I buy it, use it a few times and it either stays in my camera bag or gets put into a bin with my other unused accessories. Thats what prompted me to start the "best accessories" videos in the first place. For the hard drives, I use these HDD spinning drives because they are cheap. I typically buy 2 4TB's at a time use them as backup. Very recently I started editing right off of an internal ssd, and moving the files to my cheap platter drives when the video is complete. I'll try out a T5 next time I buy need a drive. Thanks for the comment and watching, James.

    A better move than a car charger is an inverter that uses a tool battery (e.g., Ryobi 18v). For about the cost of a Mavic battery (assuming you already own the tool batteries) you can get one of these 110v inverters and get twice the wattage of a 12v cigarette lighter charger, and you can carry it into the field with your other drone gear. You also then use your 110v triple charger. Way better solution I think.

    Is there a difference in the larger casing sd card that you put your micro sd in or does it not matter cause you are just using it to read on the computer or whatever? I have never used a micro sd and just got my magic air 2 and was just watching videos on it, this was very helpful I just wasn’t sure if it mattered performance wise what kind of sd card to insert my micro sd into, looks like you had different kinds.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  2 года назад

      That larger sd card adapter is helpful if you don’t have a micro ds card reader, but if you have a dedicated micro sd card reader then you don’t have to use the adapter. There is no big performance gain by using the adapter. Having a fast usb c card reader will make a bigger difference when which adapter you need. Good question!

    Good stuff. Just got my Mavic Air 2 FMC, and so far my favorite accessory is the extra phone I just keep attached to the remote. That would be awesome! I had the DJI hard drive and it worked just as good as any other drive, but also had an SD card reader on it (which made the drive slower if you were using the reader and transftering to that drive at the same time) but it was a great drive. Thanks for helpful video. Fyi- you seem located above 40th parallel(N). I believe this influences your needs to your region. Hopefully RUclips being international for English speaking viewers, you can keep in mind droners below N20th parallel to S.20th will always need >ND16PL (even golden hour), most standard is ND64PL for day shooting. I cant use smart controller without complete wrap around sunshade-its way too low NIT. I share with US desert region quad peeps similar issues with screen visibility & sunstreaked video shoots. Smart controller could be better value if DJI standardizes its for all drones on same App, albeit I guess it makes sense to go as simple as possible for entry level mini kids having FLY apps basics only. I just dont get it really- Panasonic (Toughbook laptops as examples) have been producing screens w/1100NIT for 10++years and thats not running max. Perhaps North & South temperate zones fight snow glare? Blue Skies & happy flying.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  3 года назад

      WOW, I live in Ohio, which is statistically one of the grayest places in the United States - I use an ND4 or ND8 at golden hour. I can count on one hand the times I've had to use an ND64 in Ohio. I just got back from a trip to California and was using ND16 and ND32's pretty much all the time. It is a regional thing, that's for sure! I'll keep that in mind while I'm making my videos in the future. I wish DJI would make the Fly app available for the Smart Controller. The Smart controller has been working for me in direct sunlight, but I'm in a much darker area overall than you. I would love an even brighter screen on the next version of the smart controller though! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    *****a word from someone who experienced it. BACKUP that WD MyBook often, if that's what it is. On mine the power supply went so I figured I could just swap the case, no problem. NOPE!!!!!! The MyBook and Passport series encrypts your data, mine was passive and didn't let me set a decryption key. You'll need the encryption board to get your data back, took me 8 months of frustration trying to find the board, trying recovery apps and other methods. And here's the ball kicker, WD uses different encryption boards!!!! Luckily I knew a Linux wiz who was able to tell me what board I needed. 15 years of work almost lost, now I have 2 backups and it's also on a RAID array. Hate to see anyone go through what I did. The absolute worst part, I was backing the drive up when it failed. :(...

Would love to try to get them working again though for personal reasons if I ever have to try to get data off of a drive in the future though. Do you have any recommendations on how to try? @@keith-knittel Hello. No, you insert this U shaped holder between the controller and the phone which keeps it on place with the spring tension. If you remove the phone it comes off. It is one more thing to install before flying, but it does the job and it balances well with a regular sized phone. DJI does an amazing job not only in functionality and design of all gear (charger, case, cables, portability, etc) but also the drone itself. But I wish they did include a hard point to attach a lanyard, and that the cables were more phone case friendly. But I like my drone very much.

    Hi, you say you "fill up a ton of 4TB drives"
    Filming in 4K resolution is 84MB/minute, or 793 HOURS of footage per drive. You fill those up?

      Hey Steve, the landing pad is something I found helpful - but that being said I still don't take it out with me every single time I go flying. It's nice to have, but I didn't find it as useful as the other accessories on the 'core' list. Thanks for watching and commenting

Fishing season is winding down in Ohio right now (Walleye season is going to start close to shore when it gets a little colder though!) Maybe I'll see if I can get something together. You go through 3 batteries when you fly but if you only had one battery you’d only get a quarter of the footage? How does that work? Lol

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  3 года назад

      Haha Im not great at math on the spot, Daniel! I was going for just less footage, should have thought more about what I was saying. Good catch!

    • @kaicameron6401
      @kaicameron6401 3 года назад

      Kind of made sense to me saying a quarter of the footage. As you said often at a minimum the first 4-6 minutes is set up time. We aren’t going to get 33% good usable footage out of all three batteries.

    • @DanielGarcia-gm7xz
      @DanielGarcia-gm7xz 3 года назад +1

      Kai Cameron well incorrect math made sense to you I guess. It’s not that serious lol

    • @kaicameron6401
      @kaicameron6401 3 года назад

      Daniel Garcia just hoping you understand where I am coming from with the logic. If we had three completely charged batteries and knew perfectly every shot we were going to make and all the camera settings we needed were already programmed into the drone ideally in that scenario we conceivably could get 25 minutes of footage per battery for 75 minutes of footage. Unrealistic because I know I use or need to use about 6 minutes of the first battery getting all the settings made for my shot and doing pre-shot set-up. 75/4 =18.75 minutes 25% of the 3 battery total. 25 minute battery power - 6 minutes = ideally 19 minutes of usable footage. So yeah with one battery you will only get about 25% equivalent usable footage compared to having 3 batteries. Of course in the scenario above battery 1 most likely for me will still only provide 19 minutes of usable footage where battery 2 and battery 3 most often give me closer to the full capacity because I wouldn’t need to spend the 6 minutes set up time.

      DJI has not paid me to make anything, and if any company sends me something for free I state it in the video. I understand how it could come across like that since this is a "10 accessories" video and these are all the accessories that I use with the drone. There are plenty of accessories that I have, but don't use - so I didn't include them in this video. This isn't a review video, more of a list - if you check out some of my reviews they are more thorough than this list video. Thanks for watching

    Really turning off obstetrical avoidance flying as close as you can .... then expecting insurance if you hit something ... That is totally misleading.
    I would love to know if you have even read the DJI Care Refresh
    ..DO NOT fly close to reflective surfaces
    ..The aircraft cannot avoid obstacles during RTH when the visual systems are disabled
    ..Pay attention and control the aircraft at all times during flight. DO NOT rely only on the vision systems and DJI Fly. Safety
    and flight assistance features are meant to assist the pilot, not replace their control of the aircraft. Environmental conditions
    such as lighting and the surface texture of obstacles may impact the performance of the vision systems. Keep the aircraft
    within VLOS and pay close attention to its flight. Use sound discretion to operate the aircraft and manually avoid obstacles
    in a timely manner. It is important to set an appropriate Failsafe and RTH altitude before each flight.
    Looking for would to your response.......... P.s I have not disliked yet But i think it only a matter of Time

      Hey there Colin, I typically fly close to myself so I can see what I’m doing while flying close to objects. And if you want to fly close, you have to turn off obstacle avoidance. Wouldn’t advise flying in any way you’re not comfortable with. I routinely turn off obstacle avoidance while flying and make sure I’m comfortable with the situation. If it’s too windy, can’t keep good vlos, etc I don’t do get that shot. There is a risk in getting certain shots, if you don’t want to get those shots then you don’t have to. Use good judgement while flying and be safe. Check out my mavic air fpv video for more thoughts on the risk to reward of certain shots.

There are a lot of accessories for the Mavic Air 2, but these are the ones I found myself using on a consistent basis (or in the smart controllers case, wish I was using on a consistent basis). Which accessories do you use the most, that I didn't mention? Thanks for watching and commenting.

    I think the refresh stinks..
    If you lose your drone and you can't find it you don't get anything!!
    You can buy drone insurance from 3rd party places that will cover your drone if you lose it and the insurance will also cover property damage and the most important the coverage if your drone hit someone in the head.
    There are plenty of insurance companies to find the one that you need DJI refresh is kind of a rip-off and a pain in the ass.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  3 года назад +1

      Never come across an insurance policy that will cover missing drones without additional terms that raise your overall price. In the us you’re not allowed to fly over people, so if a drone hits someone in the head - that could be a larger issue. Your home owners insurance is probably the best insurance you can get but Id rather use another service if I could. Refresh or a 3rd party insurance definitely not for everyone - but for me refresh makes sense. Thanks for your side of it though. Very informative and good to hear.

      It could easily hit someone in the head even if you're not flying over them. if you lose control or you get a fly away you don't know where it's going to go or where it's going to land... Even if you don't fly over people people can walk into your path without you knowing it.. drones do some crazy things and you can't control where they go if something bad happens.
      A lot of drone insurance companies allow you to pay per flight.. and it will cover everything I mentioned. most likely when people lose drones something is really wrong especially with a DJI DRONE.. there's a good chance you're not going to find it... what happens if you fly over water forget about it it's gone if something goes wrong. DJI care will not take care of that..
      Also packing up your drone and then waiting for it is also a real pain especially if you don't have a backup drone which is most likely the case..
