Every song on this album is a banger. Be in my top 5 double albums of all time.
Its all about escape, back to a good old time in your life when things were simpler, and easier.
Great song. Great album.
Fantastic album every song is classic EJ! But there is one you need to hear and it’s early Elton. The song is called “Ticking “ one of his best and the piano is dynamic! The subject matter is something that could have been written yesterday! And it’s 50 years old! Give it a try and you have to hear the studio version!❤😂 love you guys!
Could not agree more! That song still gives me chills.
Wholeheartedly agree!
He does sound different. Somewhere around 1987 he had throat surgery. He could never really hit some of the higher notes of his earlier songs after that. I was surprised to see this as a reaction. The instruments he uses gives it a kind of haunting sound. Enjoyed this so much!
Elton John loved American cowboy songs and performers.
Hey y’all, y’all have to do more EARLY Elton John. Here are a few of the BEST: Rocket Man, Your Song, Daniel, Honky Cat, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, Pinball Wizard, Yellow Brick Road! Great reactions, you two! 👍🏻
GREAT SONG
What puts this song in perspective is the hoofbeats at the end. Completly sets the scene.
i like how you listen to different songs that are not the standard.
Bernie Taupin was the lyricist. Elton John the composer. A lot of post war kids in England were fascinated with America, including the West. Bernie is looking back to his childhood. Its really a sweet song.
This put a smile on my face. Thank you.
He writes such a wide variety of subjects with Bernie, Who else does that? Brilliant.
The production on this and the whole GYBR album is top notch!
Elton's lyricist partner Bernie Taupin was (and is) totally enamored of the US, especially the rural areas and the West. (Bernie grew up on a farm in England.)
Yes, and both were lovers of the Westerns the watched as they were kids.
He's singing about Roy Rogers because his lyricist (Bernie Taupin) loves the American West. And in fact owns a ranch in Montana or Wyoming or somewhere around there
love this song
Early Elton John and Bernie Taupin equal musical genius!
What a team they were!
His songwriter Bernie Taubman used to watch Roy Rogers in England
Taupin.
Nice to hear one of his lesser playd songs, thanks. GYBR is a Wonderful album with great variety. His previous album, 'Don't shoot me I'm only the piano player' was the album that got me into EJ. I liked the next two but after that my tastes changed so I only really know his singles beyond then. Always enjoy watching you guys!
" Teacher i need you " is one by Elton you should try
Yup! Great song! ❤
Agreed, I love the whole 'Don't shoot me...' album.
So cool you did a deep track from this album. There are other songs from this album that are also unheralded but terrific. I've Seen That Movie Too and Sweet Painted Lady are two. Another Deep track Elton song you might like to hear is Blues For Baby And Me off of the Don't Shoot Me album.
Ambrosia, holding on to yesterday.
Omg that’s a great album that nobody knows about.
One of the very best albums on Earth. The songs are all different. In this song Elton has the most country accent
That’s SO damn funny. I’ve always noticed that but most people don’t pick up on that. Cheers my friend!
Absolutely! He's really turning on the twang.
