Please do a review of Korra next. Keep in mind though that there was only going to be 1 season of Korra. Nickelodeon gave the creators the green light to do a 2nd season after season 1 so they had to scramble a bit to come up with a good story for season 2 which is not as bad as people say. After season 2 they got the green light to do a 3rd and 4th season so it's more concise and flows together. The 4th season actually never aired on tv, it was on their website and getting up and waiting for it at 11am so I could watch it was really fun. Also read the comics, they really expand the lore and answer a few questions and read the novels about Avatar Kyoshi and Avatar Yangchen. They're really good too.
You know what’s even more depressing in the tone department? The fact that every time I see these actors on social media they seem like energetic fun cool people who could totally pull off more cartoony leaning tone.
Actually, a lot of fans hate all the extra development given to Ozai. He wasn't supposed to be a real character in the original series, just a sort of representation of the worst of the Fire Nation and the war as a whole. That's why they used him so sparingly, when you use a character like that too much they lose a lot of their presence and just become this bland caricature that's hard to take seriously. Like, the show actually had Zuko fight Ozai in the Agni Kai, and like- what? That was a super important part of the original where Zuko was banished because he refused to fight. It showed off how cruel Ozai was by burning his son even when his son was on his knees begging for forgiveness. It showed how naive Zuko used to be, believing his father would forgive him if he didn't fight. And then Zuko almost wins but doesn't because of personal choices? What the Hell?! Why should we be concerned about Aang beating the Fire Lord when the Fire Lord loses to his preteen son?! Aang doesn't need to master any other elements, he could just go to the Fire Nation right now and beat Ozai! He's already beaten Zuko by this point! Sure, this series gives Ozai more scenes but they add literally NOTHING to Ozai's character. In fact, all they've done is take away.
Same with Azula. By humanizing the character, you take away from her SUPPOSED character, which is perfection. The cracks slowly started to show, and she completely broke at the end of Book 3, but here, she's on a cyclical journey - angsty rebellious teen who cannot reach perfection, reaches perfection, then drops back down to the exact same place. One more thing, about Ozai: Everybody likes the 41st Division change but it's just so. Unbelievably. Stupid. When you look at it for more than 2 seconds. Zuko fought his father to spare the 41st Division, then his father punishes him by sparing the 41st Division. People say it's to "remind him of his failure" but it's not - he DOESN'T FAIL, he GETS EXACTLY WHAT HE WANTED! Not only is this utterly stupid on every level, it also dumbs down Ozai very much, because what, you cancelled a military plan just to "teach Zuko a lesson"? You sacrifice another, more experienced division? What the hell?
@@Onaterdem the point about azula is so important. we're not supposed to be seeing azula's side of the story, she's supposed to be a terrifying antagonist who's so powerful to the point she doesn't need to use bending or even regular combat to break someone down. now we're given her perspective and we have to watch her go on some kind of weird hero's journey even though we know how her story will end with her breakdown which makes it all pointless. nobody wants to watch a character start out at one point, excel and then go straight back to where they started
Fear of the unknown of seemingly unstoppable forces. The Fire Lord and Azula are a lot more unsettling when they're shrouded in mystery, and we never see them getting defeated in the show until the very end, leaving us wondering what will happen the entire time. Instead the Netflix adaptation completely dismantled the story and the way all main characters were written for no reason. Why even make a readaptation and then actively choosing to not make it accurate at all?
@@capofantasma97 TBH, an adaptation making changes is perfectly fine, and expected. Avatar the Last Airbender wasn't a flawless show, especially Book 1. Although most were minor flaws, there was room for improvement nonetheless. But instead of, you know, fixing the flaws, they ruined what worked in the first place.
that last line about sums up all the characters in this show. even the side characters, miraculously. its almost impressive how the writers managed to miss the point of literally EVERY single character, even ones who were barely present for more than a few episodes the whole show. almost every single change is either pointless, stupid, or actively takes away something and makes it worse. if they wanted to adapt something, they couldve done better with something like korra. although ive never seen it, i know its a lot more controversial than the original show. they couldve fixed things that did not work, people wouldve been less critical because korra isnt as insanely beloved as avatar, win win. they couldve even adapted the novels, or the comics. but hey, i guess money is more important, and what better why to get that than to mooch off an beloved childhood show?
Um, achktually Bumi was not the Earth King; just the king of Omashu. The Earth King is in the Earth Kingdom capital of Ba Sing Se... where I was told there is no war there...
I just wish they'd use the TV budget to adapt the Kyoshi books into live action instead. They're much darker and more dramatic, and they'd fit the tone they want for adults perfectly. Plus they've never been on screen, so there are fewer comparisons.
Tbh I wish adaptations were just way less common. I’m okay with different forms of media portraying a universe. I’d rather get a new Avatar instead of the same thing but live action. There’s hundreds of them that we have absolutely no knowledge of, and I’d really want to see what those time periods were like.
@evanmarcus5975 That's what I'm saying dude. Unfortunately like with most adaptations of things, they tend to start at the beginning or the with the most popular part.
That would have been better, even if I'd have preferred a cartoon adaptation instead. But at least doing that story would be a fresh take on the universe and something that hasn't been done before, which might been fun to watch. And it'd have probably been easier to turn the novels into a series as compared to a 60 episode show, they're much shorter and contain less content that needs to be adapted.
The original creators were actually supposed to help work on the live action show but left due to “creative differences” of course. Meanwhile, shows like the One Piece live action and the Fallout show are being praised because they’re actually good shows on their own and the og creators were also involved with the production. It really seems like the best solution for making legitimately good live action adaptations of animated shows is actually listening and working together with the original creators…shocker.
In particular, the over-the-top hyper quality that Luffy had in the One Piece adaptation should have been used as an inspiration for both Aang and Sokka in terms of making their characters come alive.
I think when people heard that the creators left was when the death knells were starting to ring for this show. If the original writers are having "creative differences" it's shorthand for "the executives wanted our names on it to gain fans trust and have no intention of letting us ACTUALLY make the show what it needs to be". in other words: bad
@@oremfrien Iñaki Godoy (Luffy) is a gem of a an actor and One Piece is so lucky to have a kid that embodies Luffy 24/7 like he does! Gordon Cormier (Aang) on the other hand has a kind of sad and guilty vibe that really kills Aang’s character in the live action. The sad part is that if you watch videos of the Avatar actors, you can see how they are like their characters. They had a pretty bad script to work with because the creators were ousted and there wasn’t much that they could do about it, a problem that the One Piece cast didn’t have because Eiichiro Oda (creator of One Piece) was involved in mostly every decision that was made in the adaptation.
Moral of the story: don't take something that works in one medium and translate it to another unless you have people that actually care about it…or just don't do it at all
idk, one big exception to this is comics. i think most comics, especially superheroes, translate perfectly fine to other mediums. also, taking things from other mediums and adapting them into a comic works well in most cases. i just think the core issue is trying to translate animation into live action, not necessarily a change of mediums just in general.
@@herbnfizz4113 I still think continuations and spin-offs would be better. You could do What If stories, follow different groups of people in different nations, explore the spirit world more, maybe have some prequel-esque series with past Avatars and other people of significance in the world. If they don't do well, then they aren't really 'tainting' the legacy of ATLA since they're mostly standalone (Aside from continuations and prequels), and it lets them open the door to any manner of stories in the universe.
Don't forget about how they did Monk Gyatsu dirty with how he met his end, especially compared to the animated show where it is obvious that he took a lot of firebenders out with him
It should be noted: Netflix announced the live action series in *2018* so it was only 3-ish years after Korra ended. Netflix began streaming the animated series in anticipation of the live action series
@@Sigma90985 even though the time is about even, each of those hour long episodes are condensing down multiple self contained stories into one AND adding new stuff to try and Frankenstein them together.
Someone else is as pissed off about the Aang not learning to waterbend, like even if the weird set up they have there were chances for him to learn, like he could have practiced the water whip with Katara. And the excuses people give, I commented about this on another post or video and someone said "oh but they are making things slower so he will learn through a longer time period off screen, because the animated show was unrealistic by showing Aang learning so fast" I was in complete disbelief with that answer
It's like everyone forgets that Aang is actually a master and with water being the closest element spiritually to air, it's one of the reasons he gets it faster besides being the Avatar. Technically all Avatars are prodigies in some way being with the element that suits them the closest whether it's their first element or not. Avatars will get them faster because they have done it before in a past life, it doesn't mean they don't struggle, they just have to get in the right mindset. It's like learning to walk after having amnesia after a car crash , you know you can do it,you see other people do it, and you just need to believe that you can do it.
i believe that people who enjoy the live action can enjoy it even with all the flaws but my god it drives me insane when they defend the stupid writing decisions with their life. the live action sucks even outside of its relation with atla yet some live action enjoyers are hellbent on defending every terrible move the writers made that im pretty sure will turn this show into a trainwreck with how its going
Also, a small correction on your description of Aang in the first episode of the Netflix show: He doesn't run away. He's stressed out about having just learned that he's the avatar (Right before the festival starts, good job Gyatso), and because he can't sleep he asks Appa to take him on a flight to clear his head. He's literally just talking a walk, which is 100% a reasonable thing to be doing in his shoes. Except the show still frames it like he ran away, so WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE CHANGE?
And how about Gyatso appearing in the Spirit World? Not only is it a major lore breaker, but it also completely undermines the sadness of the whole situation. Now, in life, you mostly don't get to say goodbye. You say "see you later", and then the person dies and you never see them or talk to them again. That gives weight to death. That lack of closure. Also, in life, you may believe, or hope, but you don't KNOW that the afterlife exists. Not knowing if you'll reconnect with your loved ones, again, gives weight to death. Otherwise, you'll miss them, but in more of a hopeful way - why be sad if you'll eventually be together again, and forever this time? Without these 2 factors, death may as well be meaningless. In NATLA's case, Gyatso just appears in the Spirit World, talks to Aang, says goodbye, essentially says that the afterlife exists and tells Aang to not worry or feel guilt. BOOM. Aang's whole character is ruined, congratulations.
To be honest, I didn’t watch the original show or Korra until this year and I’m so glad I did. It’s my favorite animated show of all time and as close as you can get to a perfect show.
@@jessicapatriciarierawillia1698 I get that. I don’t mind the gay stuff too much because giving credit where it’s due, it was set up throughout the last two seasons. There’s a lot of cool fight scenes and additions to the lore of the universe. I also really like the new characters.
@@jessicapatriciarierawillia1698 while everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I have to ask, did you like ATLA? I’m a bit confused with the notion that Korra is more political than ATLA already was.
@@name.1031 Bro atla ITS four nations not literal rebelión on a city were ther Is court and politcs present an you Will say oh atla has presidents the are kings way different
Some of the only memories I still have of my grandfather consist of me sitting on the couch next to his hospice bed watching ATLA with him because it was the only cartoon we both liked. It’ll always hold a special place in my heart 🥰
@@TheFourthEmperorOfTheSea bruh I was 10 when the Avatar movie came out and I watched Twilight when I was 8/9, really didn't cross my mind until this video 😂
@@athenakaley I was 10 when I saw Twilight (I came from Harry Potter as a Rob Pattinson fan and didn’t know the kind of cringe I was in for💀) and also just figured it out. I was referring to Jackson Rathbone when I said pathetic because to be in 2 of these dumpster fires, you gotta be pretty pathetic 😂
So a few things I do feel like I should mention. 1) Korra isn't bad, it's divisive. The Legend of Korra makes a lot of weird, and honestly bad, decisions during it's run that was a combination of multiple factors that I'm not going into right now. With that said, it has also done a lot of things pretty great as well. It just failed to live up to the expectations of the original ATLA that has a number of fans treating it worse than it actually is. Personally I say the show is worth watching as the positives do generally outweigh the bad, and understand that the fan base generally agrees that Season 2 was just a mistake. 2) I think the big reason why people weigh the Netflix show higher then [There is no Movie inside of Ba Sing Se] is because there does feel like an honest attempt from the Netflix show to actually be faithful. It doesn't, but there are all sorts of tiny nods and all sorts of other things that shows that this was created by people who really do know the show, whereas the movie that doesn't exist feels like someone read a script of the first season once and just went based off of that. 3) I want to make a big suggestion of looking into the actual books when you can. Specifically the Rise of Kyoshi and the Shadow of Kyoshi novels specifically as they are two of the best Avatar content we've gotten in years, but because they are novels, they are easily overlooked by most fans. (I did myself until I ended up catching a glimpse of the story and decided to look into them myself.) Like I know that it isn't usually content you look at, but they are completely worth it if you want to really get to know some of these characters that are barely touched on in the show.
I disagree with you about Korra, I really didn’t like the show and aside felt season 3 felt it was quite bad (with season 2 being the worst of course), but you hit the nail on the head with why the movie gets so much hate while the newest one isn’t getting the same amount
I appreciate a lot of korra, particularly the worldbuilding in season 1 and how it expanded and evolved the world a generation later. However I don't think it outweighs the bad for me personally, as I think the main characters just aren't very compelling or deep. Korra is an okay character but not super interesting, not even a fraction as interesting any single character in ATLA. Mako straight up just sucks and is not an entertaining or compelling character in the slightest. And the other guy is pretty alright but feels like a pathetic stand-in for the role Sokka took in ATLA. I really like Tenzin and tophs daughter, but I just couldn't enjoy the show that much following the extremely mid main trio. I did like the concept of the separatists and I liked amon, but I already know seasons 2 and 3 sucks so I'm not even gonna watch them
@@semskguy I am surprised that anyone told you season 3 sucked. There is some weirdness with it as it's forced to just deal with some bad writing choices in season 2, but it is generally the one that most tend to see as the best written (as the writers were actually given time to come up with a proper arc this time then being rushed by Nick during season 2.)
I see Korra as a pretty good show with lots of a wasted potential, but a bad Avatar show. Its greatest sin is that it takes beloved elements from TLA and removes all their charm (metal bending and lightning bending are now common place, people didn't learn bending from specific entities but they were gifted with it by the big turtle, etc.), and because of that to me it feels like it takes away from the worldbuilding more than it adds. The character writing is sloppy, which is a shame because on paper these characters and their journeys sound really good, the execution is just "ehhh" at best. That's what I first think about when I remember LOK and not the good parts like Tenzin, having an Avatar be scared that they are going to lose their bending, the metalbenders city etc. I genuinely think they should remake Korra's story instead of Aangs' and fix its glaring flaws, but as it stands I can't genuinely recommend it to Avatar fans.
IT'S FINALLY HERE, THE VIDEO!!! I still remember back in "The Owl House: Everything You Need To Know" video, FootofaFerret was mentioning that he never watched Avatar The Last Airbender?? Back then I was asking HOW?? WHY??? But the answer was (drumroll please) he got lazy, and I don't mind. I know that watching Avatar The Last Airbender would be a time consuming thing, Heck, I even took a whole school year! (from the 3rd grade to 4th grade) The teacher would say "Okay kids, Let's watched Avatar!" and me and all my classmate will sit down and watch Avatar on Netflix in the TV screen. Oh just typing it down feels so nostalgic. Thank you FootofaFerret for finally watching Avatar and making a video about it, and EVEN taking about the new show and it's problems, MAN, THIS MADE MY DAY!
Fun fact the bloodbending episode was originally aired during the week of Halloween so Nick used their new show that wouldn't necessarily make sense to suddenly be celebrating a "Halloweenesque holiday" like Icarly or Drake and Josh by having a Halloween episode without it being Halloween based.
@@davidfitzpatrick6535not really,i just kinda watched and it was "oh, that's cool" I didn't really understand it untill much later when i re watched back in 2020,like man when hama taunted katara at the end,i was shook
@@Cyberfan2167 interestingly out of the four sub sets of bending (blood for water lava for earth lightning for fire and flight? For air?(I'm not sure if there is a subset for airbenders)) blood bending is the only one that is illegal by LOK if u consider that canon(some fans don't consider Korra canon although I'm pretty sure with the new animated series coming next year (I think?) with an earth born avatar they're probably going to make Korra canon which will be intresting considering she ended the avatar cycle basically. She lost her connection to the other avatars and never regained it unless its regained in the Korra comics which I haven't read. Personally I think it would be cool to have the avatar be born in the desert as a sand bender like that fan animation that was popular on YT but had to be pulled because of the announcement of a new series. Hopefully the people who worked on the fan animation got hired by team Avatar studios Cause I really liked where the series was heading
Those floating firebenders are the royal family and they are up a flight of stairs. Hope this helps you appreciate avatar more knowing one of your only gripes was an accidental misinterpretation lol. 17:20
That HAD to have been a joke.. Like you physically can't zoom in and show that footage and circle it without making out the obvious shading they used to communicate that it was stairs..
6:36 You nailed that feeling after finishing Avatar perfectly. I just watched the original Avatar myself for the first time because of the netflix version and I've been scouring for more Avatar content since then. I usually don't re-watch TV shows, but I very quickly watched it over again (The Good Place is the only other one I can remember doing this) and that still isn't enough. I can totally understand why this fandom is still going so strong after 20 years. And I must say, now is a great time to be joining the fandom. The voice actors for Zuko and Korra host a podcast together, the voice actress for Toph posts regular content on her youtube channel (including reactions to every episode), and Avatar Studios is coming out with a new movie and it sounds like there is additional stuff in the works too. I'm glad there is new stuff to consume because it is so good I just can't turn my brain off from it. 😄
Btw Aang started mastering water bending first because waterbending is chronically next in the avatar cycle, which it is the order it is supposed to be learned. Although it happened to be convenient that Katara was just starting too.
I actually really like legend of Korra, I can see some parts where people may not like it but the show as a whole is cool and really expands the world! My favorite character is Bolin!
When the show creators dipped out during the script writing should have been a sign to everyone that this show wasn’t gonna be a retelling but a different show.
Fun fact: Aang is voiced by Zachary Tyler Eisen who also voices: Lucas Nickle from The Ant Bully, Andrew Mulligan from Little Bill which is weird, and even Pablo from The Backyardigans.
EXACTLY WHY DIDNT AAND LEARN WATERBENDING? How come the show isn’t funny and silly? Why is sokka not misogynistic anymore? Why isn’t katara being overbearing? All of this had so much to do with them growing as characters and they took it all away.
I was the same way, I never even heard of the show till I has a junior in high school tbh and that was like about a decade after it ended. I did finally watch the show that same year and I feel in love with it.
There is a continuation of this show in the WebToon that continues after Avatar the Last Airbender show but before Korra. Really good web comic to read
I had the exact mindset when it came to watching Avatar. It is now easily my #1 show to watch. The story, characters, animation and just everything is incredible!
Hey, better late than never! Welcome to the fan base! Great video! I would love for you to cover Korra in a future video once you finish it (No rush, hope you enjoy it!). Personally I LOVE Korra, and it is very different than the original, but I still think it's amazing!
It's honestly sad. The actors on the live action really care about the og series, you can tell by the interviews. Like the kid who plays aang wanted the penguin sledding in it
But if they really cared about it, they should have known that a remake was not necessary and just completely rejected the role and work on other stuff
22:23 Fun fact about the name pronunciation, Aang, Sokka, Iroh and even Avatar sound exactly this way in the Hebrew dubbed version of the series. The original way they are pronounced in the show sounds very English accent to a Hebrew speaker so if you like it's the opposite in this case where it has a foreign accent.
Yeah, they're pronounced like that in the german dubbed version as well. At first i was like "what's wrong with those pronunciations? They sound perfectly normal to me" until hearing him say the names in his perceived "right" way 😅
I introduced my bf to ATLA in 2020 when we first started dating, and it is still so good. A timeless story that truly is about as perfect as a show can get. Not a kids show, a SHOW show. For any age. This show goes above and beyond just "nostalgia", it's just that good.
One thing the Netflix show gets right is the costumes. Give that department a raise, the costumes are flawless. This is exactly what the outfits and makeups from the original would look like in real life, simply phenomenal.
16:58 i thought i was the only one 😭 also my mom and her friend that watched the original series didnt agree with me that my mom should watch the animated show before the live action because "it doesnt matter" WHAT
I was right there with you. I don't really get into the hype of media in general, but, as a millennial in university, I encountered a lot of gen-z-ers that really like the show. I became friends with some of them. And they talked me into starting the show. I hate that I slept on it for so long, it's now one of my favourite shows.
when people have not watched a show and that show has been adapted and rebooted, I just really want to tell them "Watch the reboot 1st then watch the show" do it backwards and see if you have a different reaction from the fans who are mad that the adaptation changed stuff. I want to find as many things as I can that have been rebooted and tell newbies to watch it all out of order just to generate a new POV I think that would be a fun video, to report on a fandom from mixed up order.
That was the case for my mom, she’s watching the animated series after binging the Netflix one. She liked the Netflix series fine, but she said the animated one doesn’t feel as rushed.
I did that with Death Note. I cam confirm that the only thing it does is make the Live Action worse either way, because I loved the manga/anime. So... it's better to just watch the original either way. It's better to just ignore those "remakes" and see what made the original story beloved.
I am such a person. I watched the very unpopular movie adaptation first, which got me hooked on to the series as a whole. I understand why so many hold the movie in vitriolic contempt, but it was my introduction to ATLA and there are elements of it that I think were well done. For instance, I LOVE James Newton Howard's musical score, and the scene where Aang confronts his grief over losing his people and effectively waterbends the Fire Nation into submission (without sinking any ships) is the movie's greatest moment...maybe it's only great moment. I think I'm the only person to have this perspective, though. All I ever hear is "hate it, hate it, hate it".
My favorite choice for the Netflix Avatar series was the 41st division twist. If there was one thing I could take from the Netflix Avatar and add it to the original series, it would be the 41st division twist.
Hm, fair and valid points and opinions, i hope to hear your thoughts on Korra. Anyway, 8 Episodes, huh? 8 Episodes? Why is there seemingly so many New Shows that just have 8 Episodes a Season now? Someone please tell me, why is there so many 8 Episode Seasons now?
I'll be honest, one of the few things I actually liked from the movie is the design of Aang's air bender tattoo. Like, sure, it totally should have been blue, but I loved how intricate it was. The netflix one, though does have a cool pattern in it when you look closely(which is cool), just....looks like someone painted an arrow on his head instead of an actual tattoo. Also the intricate pattern from the movie just makes more sense to me in my head since i'd guess they wouldn't have a tattoo gun pre electricity buuut fantasy world. They make their own rules and thats cool too x3
Hot take: Iroh's explanation of why the soldiers were forced to go with Zuko during his banishment was done better in the live action version than the original.
Fun fact: the misspronounced names are the right names in the Hungarian dub. It's really funny hearing everyone (in America) freaking about this😂😂😂. Also awesome video❤❤
i generally agree with the sentiment but... that second sentence is blasphemous (hyperbolic)! *beyond this point is my pedantic arguing on the value OP doesnt see, but it is only my two cents. I dont want to argue it any further, so only read on if you care. I am not intending to start a debate, only explain my differing opinion.* it might not do anything new, but there was actual value in the adaptation. The key is the heart and spirit of the show remained unchanged for one piece (save for some tonal issues with garp that could be easily fixed if given the run time to see how they re-integrate him), but most other live action "adaptations" show a level of shame for the source by failing to recognize tonal changes require drastic script overhauls to the point it cant realistically be called the same story anymore. The value of one piece's live action adaptation is not in the story, but in the world. Practical sets for the fantastical ships of the show restore that sense of child-like wonder and belief in magic that adults tend to compartmentalize into the freedoms of animation, never to be seen in reality. Easy example: Beratie. If it was affordable, i would very much enjoy that style of restaurant boat, and it might even be more fantastical than the anime. Seeing the inside of Kaya's mansion helps sell the rich girl elements that are very easy to forget in the animation where she is just a normal, though terminally ill, girl who just happens to live in a larger house than normal. I'll say it again: there is value in live action one piece, but it is important not to overlook the fact the creator was directly involved in making sure it remained faithful to his initial vision. Oda remained on board the entire time; avatar studios did not. Love them or hate them, there is a novelty to live action adaptations, and the Goldilocks zone they thrive in is finding a way to prove the magic of the animation can exist in reality with enough ingenuity WITHOUT loosing the heart and soul of the source. Want a quick metric? compare the source to the adaptation first by "do both products hold up on their own without prerequisite knowledge from the other?", then by "do the products maintain the same general 'vibe' which necessitates very little deviation in tone between the 2?" and finally "do i personally enjoy watching both, regardless of what biases i am using?" Only when all 3 pass does the adaptation work. Most bad ones cut so much they dont function on their own anymore. mediocre ones disrespect the 'vibe' of the source, even if it stands on its own. good ones bring joy because the balancing act is maintained, then defined by how wobbly the spinning plates are.
It's funny because OP is the more difficult series to adapt, the first half alone is worth nearly a hundred episodes yet they still managed to capture the spirit of OP in just 8 episodes. Maybe it has something to do with the original creator being on board, I dunno
The Legend of Kora was defiantly over hated during its time. It’s not as good as the original series in some aspects but it’s still a good sequel to the original cartoon and comics.
@@HelpIdkAGoodUser301yeah it’s just kinda the “instant like machine” rn. I mean, I’m getting a few likes through critiquing it so perhaps I am just as bad as those unironically doing it…
2 problems with the movie: the casting is borderline racist and the bending is just awful, that single floating rock scene is one of the worst vfx shots ive ever seen. For the Legend of Korra, important to note that Nickelodeon exes only renewed the show season by season, and took every opportunity to medal in the writing and plot direction. The showrunners did the best they could with what they had with Korra, and its not a bad show, its just not as good as the Last Airbender where they had full control and knew they had 3 seasons to tell their story properly
I have mixed feelings on TLoK, so I'm going to break it season by season. S1: Actually good. The romance was a mess, but the romance wasn't the best in ATLA either. Other than that, I liked Amon and the main cast. S2: Awful. Won't go into to much detail, but it just feels like they were forced to change the story halfway through, and it made the season an inconcistent mess, both with ATLA and season 1. S3: Overrated. It felt like it dragged on and started to get reptative. If I had a nickel for every time the main gang had a fight with the red lotus, I would have an entire dollar. S4: Just let it end. It just felt hollow, with so many random choises out of nowhere. Just a dissapointing finale. To close it all out: I don't blame the show's creators. They tried to tell a good story, but both studio medaling and poor execution let to it failing to capture the feeling of ATLA and thier own vision. Sorry this was so long, but I just wanted to put my own full opinion on TLoK.
@@ooaktree Not really, S3's ending wanted to setup something with her being in a wheelchair, but S4 just didn't follow up on that (likely due to it being rushed).
I have pirated the film when I was a wee little lad, barely eleven years old, if I remember correctly. It was a long evening, at my grandparent's place. I had waited and yearned for the film for SO LONG. I was *so happy.* It was the first time I had felt such disappointment that wasn't my parents.
@@isozchrismer9809 I would argue and say season 3 (the one with Zaheer) is the one that deserves it. Season 2 is actually my favorite and I think some of the best moments from the show come from there (Nuktuk, introduction of Varrick and Zhu Li, Dark Avatar Unalaq, etc.) I also thought that having Unalaq as the villain was very interesting as he was Korra’s uncle, and seeing Korra being on not so great terms with her family was not something we had seen yet, and his whole personality with the spiritual aspect reminds me of Arthur Harrow from the Moon Knight series. On the contrary, I would say that Zaheer was a boring villain who felt like he popped out of nowhere, had a forgettable crew, and a cheap excuse to be an Airbender.
I'm gonna be honest here. I like the live action show, I do. It's certainly not the ATLA I grew up with, and it's not as good, but I genuinely enjoy seeing the old story get spun in a new way.
Really wish they took the approach of making a live action season that only did half of the first book in 8 episodes. The spirit world episodes in the middle of the OG series' season 1 would have been a great introduction to the world and cliffhanger for what would have come next for new viewers.
I really like avatar but I’m not a fan of Anng not wanting to kill the fire lord. It comes out of almost nowhere. If it had been mentioned from the start of the show that Anng didn’t want to kill the fire lord he wanted to find another way around the problem and a good amount of the episodes focused on that that would be fine but that’s not what happens. Anng not wanting to kill The fire lord isn’t brought up until the series finale and it feels so stupid. It just makes Anng look like the biggest dumbass. Anng saying that he has never killed Anyone is so laughably untrue. Energy bending also sucks since that also comes out of completely nowhere and was not mentioned at all until the finale. I’m also not at fan of everything with Tophs parents. it’s never concluded in anyway and we’re only ever told about how apparently Tophs parents didn’t love her but we’re never shown that. In fact that doesn’t even make sense. They sent guys to go and bring her back to them. If they didn’t care about her, why would they do that? I really like avatar but is absolutely not perfect and I feel like a lot of people treat it like it is
Regarding the Toph's parents part, it's very common for rich and/or politically-tied parents to love their children only as far as their usage as heirs or as bargaining tools. If they had absolute assurance that Toph could not carry on their legacy, they'd have disowned her, if not abandoned her.
I also have a bone to pick with the OG series on this. I can accept that Aang has pacifist principles and is reluctant to go against such principles (even though his actions have certainly resulted in people's deaths, which I don't think is adequately addressed beyond his fear of being unable to control the Avatar state); what I can't stand is the stupid ass way the plot maneuvers to where he gets to defeat the Fire Lord AND hold true to his principles. A giant lion turtle coming out of nowhere and teaching him energy bending before he goes and fights the big bad? I didn't know the plot was just another element Aang had to learn to bend before the end of the series. 🙄
19:20 Not only does Aang not see Ozai until the end of the show, we the audience never even see his face for the entire first 2 seasons. Then in season 3 we're in the fire nation and his face is so common that Aang shows off a picture of Ozai he made from macaroni at Fire Nation school.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doubted this thing. Also I was right. Toph is not blind in the remake. And Sokka is not sexist
You gotta do a video on Summer camp Island

And it'd have probably been easier to turn the novels into a series as compared to a 60 episode show, they're much shorter and contain less content that needs to be adapted.
i don't want any avatar story to ever touch live action again, sorry
Or Korra as it had plenty of flaws that you can justify making a live-action version for
The original creators were actually supposed to help work on the live action show but left due to “creative differences” of course.
The fact that they had people from the original show, and they bailed should have told us something.
The Power Rangers comics are pretty good.
Or yk see what makes the show well liked and if it can even be translated into another medium rather then just looking at how much money it will make
@@herbnfizz4113
I still think continuations and spin-offs would be better.

Meanwhile LA Katara who's not an avatar masters waterbending at breakneck speed 😂

i believe that people who enjoy the live action can enjoy it even with all the flaws but my god it drives me insane when they defend the stupid writing decisions with their life. the live action sucks even outside of its relation with atla yet some live action enjoyers are hellbent on defending every terrible move the writers made that im pretty sure will turn this show into a trainwreck with how its going
Doesn't aang have the knowledge of thousands of spirits stored in him? I think it makes sense aang would learn it quickly.
!!!!!!!!!! Yes!! There was no point to change it if people still think and say he ran away. It felt useless

I disagree with you about Korra, I really didn’t like the show and aside felt season 3 felt it was quite bad (with season 2 being the worst of course), but you hit the nail on the head with why the movie gets so much hate while the newest one isn’t getting the same amount
i honestly liked kora but i was mor into the worldbuilding, season 2 was trash but i really liked season 1

When the show creators dipped out during the script writing should have been a sign to everyone that this show wasn’t gonna be a retelling but a different show.
3:27 if you wanna skip the sponsorship here ya go!
Fun fact: Aang is voiced by Zachary Tyler Eisen who also voices: Lucas Nickle from The Ant Bully, Andrew Mulligan from Little Bill which is weird, and even Pablo from The Backyardigans.
Just finished series for the first time as a 30 year old. Let me tell you, this show has one of the best series finales
EXACTLY WHY DIDNT AAND LEARN WATERBENDING? How come the show isn’t funny and silly? Why is sokka not misogynistic anymore? Why isn’t katara being overbearing? All of this had so much to do with them growing as characters and they took it all away.
Animated Sokka: The meat and sarcasm guy.
Live-Action Sokka: The veggies and straight-talk fellow.
Real
AANG THANK GOODNESS, HAVE U GOT ANY MEAT?
I was the same way, I never even heard of the show till I has a junior in high school tbh and that was like about a decade after it ended. I did finally watch the show that same year and I feel in love with it.
the one rock scene from the movie never fails to amaze me
Finally, you make a video about all their favorite series
There is a continuation of this show in the WebToon that continues after Avatar the Last Airbender show but before Korra. Really good web comic to read
"And Aang turns into the final boss from Sonic Adventure about it". One of the best quotes from Ryder. :)
As an Isreali avatar fan, I have this to say: אתה מאה אחוז צודק.
Yeah, they're pronounced like that in the german dubbed version as well. At first i was like "what's wrong with those pronunciations? They sound perfectly normal to me" until hearing him say the names in his perceived "right" way 😅
The last airbender: we’re all like a family :D
Legend of Korra: I slept with all my friends 👀
Korra and Aang just had different bonding styles! 😂
Huh... now that you mention it, Korra did indeed do that
She didn't bang the himbo tho, that was the point of an entire episode
well they're all actual teenagers
Korra was never into Bolin.
I had to take my Like away for you equating Sammilawn's movie with the greatness that is Legend Of Korra.
footofaferret: I loved yu-gi-oh

2024 and your doing a breif history so nostalgic
I introduced my bf to ATLA in 2020 when we first started dating, and it is still so good. A timeless story that truly is about as perfect as a show can get. Not a kids show, a SHOW show. For any age. This show goes above and beyond just "nostalgia", it's just that good.
One thing the Netflix show gets right is the costumes. Give that department a raise, the costumes are flawless. This is exactly what the outfits and makeups from the original would look like in real life, simply phenomenal.
Honestly they are too flawless as it looks like they aren't even real clothes at all. It looks like cosplay but not in a good way.
15:25
*”So I did I little bit of mining off camera”*
Korra is hella underrated
Aang's face in the thumbnail is the textbook definition of screaming internally
Ive put off great shows before many times. Adventure Time, Avtaar TLA, Star Trek, Stven Universe, Powerpuff Girls all things I put off for years
16:58 i thought i was the only one 😭 also my mom and her friend that watched the original series didnt agree with me that my mom should watch the animated show before the live action because "it doesnt matter" WHAT
FINALLY HE MADE AN AVATAR VIDEO
I was right there with you. I don't really get into the hype of media in general, but, as a millennial in university, I encountered a lot of gen-z-ers that really like the show. I became friends with some of them. And they talked me into starting the show. I hate that I slept on it for so long, it's now one of my favourite shows.
when people have not watched a show and that show has been adapted and rebooted, I just really want to tell them "Watch the reboot 1st then watch the show" do it backwards and see if you have a different reaction from the fans who are mad that the adaptation changed stuff.
I want to find as many things as I can that have been rebooted and tell newbies to watch it all out of order just to generate a new POV
I think that would be a fun video, to report on a fandom from mixed up order.
That was the case for my mom, she’s watching the animated series after binging the Netflix one. She liked the Netflix series fine, but she said the animated one doesn’t feel as rushed.
But they'll miss out on seeing what's arguably the best series ever made with fresh eyes. That's a sacrifice no one should make.
You were me until a couple weeks ago. As a kid my parents didn’t allow me to watch it. And I’m so glad i can now being an adult. Enjoyed it immensely.
Dude I just started watching it last month 😭. You’re not alone. I just finished Legend of Korra tho so it didn’t take me long
17:06 THANK YOU FOR POINTING THIS OUT!!! Like hello is light too much to ask for now?!?!?!
Hold up I literally just watched an avatar episode foafy you sure your not in my walls?
I'll be honest, one of the few things I actually liked from the movie is the design of Aang's air bender tattoo. Like, sure, it totally should have been blue, but I loved how intricate it was. The netflix one, though does have a cool pattern in it when you look closely(which is cool), just....looks like someone painted an arrow on his head instead of an actual tattoo. Also the intricate pattern from the movie just makes more sense to me in my head since i'd guess they wouldn't have a tattoo gun pre electricity buuut fantasy world. They make their own rules and thats cool too x3
26:27 that sync tho
Don't beat urself up for it.
I first watched ATLA when I was 18 in highschool... Two years ago.
Hot take: Iroh's explanation of why the soldiers were forced to go with Zuko during his banishment was done better in the live action version than the original.
Do not watch the avatar movie, watch the "hello future me" video about why the movie is so awful.
Fun fact: the misspronounced names are the right names in the Hungarian dub. It's really funny hearing everyone (in America) freaking about this😂😂😂. Also awesome video❤❤
For real people need to stop making live action versions of animated stuff.
Live action one piece isn't even that good. It's just the best we have got
i generally agree with the sentiment but...
that second sentence is blasphemous (hyperbolic)!
*beyond this point is my pedantic arguing on the value OP doesnt see, but it is only my two cents. I dont want to argue it any further, so only read on if you care. I am not intending to start a debate, only explain my differing opinion.*
it might not do anything new, but there was actual value in the adaptation.
3 views in 27 seconds? This joke is old.
It’s one of those jokes where you find it funny the first time, then it’s everywhere and immediately loses all value.

There is no movie in Ba Sing Se
There is no avatar adaptation in Ba sing se
the one thing i love about the movie is Yue's costume and hair, netflix just made that poor girl wear an amazon cosplay.
@@LoreSolver4s3 and s4 actually gave Korra such a good arc though
@@ooaktree Not really, S3's ending wanted to setup something with her being in a wheelchair, but S4 just didn't follow up on that (likely due to it being rushed).
Why did the mere mention of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo make me laugh? XD

The thing I missed in the Netflix series was Katara speaking about her necklace
You lost me at "I have never watched Avatar the Last Airbender"
I just recently finished watching the animated avatar the last Airbender show and I haven't really seen it until now
I have pirated the film when I was a wee little lad, barely eleven years old, if I remember correctly. It was a long evening, at my grandparent's place. I had waited and yearned for the film for SO LONG. I was *so happy.* It was the first time I had felt such disappointment that wasn't my parents.
Putting the movie next to Korra and calling them both not well liked should be a hate crime
Korra doesnt deserve any of the hate it gets (except for season 2)
I KNOW!!! I actually loved Korra!
I dont like korra becouse of mainly based of goberment and Boring stuuf
I haven't watched korra but it is subject to mixed opinions
I'm gonna be honest here. I like the live action show, I do. It's certainly not the ATLA I grew up with, and it's not as good, but I genuinely enjoy seeing the old story get spun in a new way.
Me too bro, I just started it recently.
You were lost, just like Zuko, but finally you found your way and restored your honor
19:20 Not only does Aang not see Ozai until the end of the show, we the audience never even see his face for the entire first 2 seasons. Then in season 3 we're in the fire nation and his face is so common that Aang shows off a picture of Ozai he made from macaroni at Fire Nation school.
When he said in the sponsor he got a shovel and said”where do I bring next time..idk the store..” got me dying🤣
Would love your take on LoK, as someone who picked up the series with netflix streaming, I really like Korra's story even though AtLA is better.
Ok Foaf, YOU NEED TO TO REVEIW SUMMER CAMP ISLAND! Its a really underated and not talked about as much as it deserves
