Hello and welcome to my tutorial “How to edit & reframe 360-videos in Adobe Premiere Pro”. This workflow tutorial can be seen as part 2 of my 360-camera tutorial series: "How to get the best out of your Insta360 ONE X2" or the tutorial of "Insta360 ONE X2 CINEMATIC BTS| Shooting, reframing & editing"
    Part 1:
    How to prepare your 360-camera
and what are the best Insta360 ONE X2 video settings
    Part 2:
How to shoot to get the best-looking footage
and how to edit & reframe your Insta360 ONE X2 360-videos to get cinematic sequences
If you follow these basic Shooting rules, you can't do much wrong:
Point 1: Although the Insta360 ONE X2 has an incredible video stabilization called "Flowstate stabilization", you still have to make sure, that you guide your camera as smooth as possible.
If the camera shake is too high, it will also be noticeable in the 360-video in the form of blurred, out-of-focus artifacts. Especially in low light conditions, this gets worse. So always make sure to guide your camera as smooth as possible, especially when the selfie stick is fully extended.
Point 2: Always try to film in good lighting conditions. This is definitely the most important aspect for a good video quality. In low light conditions you have the problem, that the video footage starts to get noisy and becomes pixelated. I recommend you to film with natural sunlight. There you will get the best results.
Point 3: Prefer a simple environment and not a complex one. What does this mean? An example of a simple environment is a flat landscape with s blue sky. A complex environment is a forest with many details. The reason for this is the video compression. The simpler the environment, the more efficient the compression. In a complex environment, the details are compressed, which results in a more pixelated footage.
Point 4: Don't get too close to objects, because then the stitching line will be visible. Always keep a distance of at least 30cm, if possible.
If you follow these basic rules, you will create high quality 360-videos!
To edit & reframe with Premiere Pro you need to install Insta360 Studio. The Insta360 plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro will be installed at the same time. The Insta360 plugin allows you to seamlessly import your Insta360 video material. Just open Premiere Pro, create a new project and import your Insta360 footage. The Insta360 plugin stitches the two 180° RAW video files together and creates a ready-to-import 360-video.
In the "Source settings", you can adjust the parameters of your Insta360 footage. Before we start with the reframing and editing, two important steps are necessary, which I prefer and recommend.
Step 1 is the frame rate. The imported material has a frame rate of 30fps. I like to slow down the footage to 24fps. This has the advantage, that the video is 20% slower which leads to smoother Shots. To change the imported footage to 24fps, you just have to right click on the file. Then click on "Modify", "Interpret footage". There you activate the option "Assume this frame rate" and enter 24fps.
Step 2 is the creation of proxy files. A proxy file is a low-quality replacement of the original. The advantage of proxy files are, that they allow you to work faster and without jerks. The original file has 5.7k, the proxy file is much smaller and more efficient.
To reframe your Insta360 360° footage you need the third party plugin "GoPro FX Reframe". You can reframe all your footage as I show you in the tutorial.
At the end there is still the "Color grading" missing. Here I make it easy for myself. I click on the tab "color" and immediately, the sliders for color adjustment appear. At Input LUT I select my own created “Gimbal Guru Cinematic LUT”. This LUT immediately adjusts the colors and gives the video a cinematic look.
The last step is the export. To do this, click on "File", "Export" - "Media". The export window will open, where I recommend you the following settings. Select "H.264" and "RUclips 4k UltraHD".
My goal is, to continue, to create high quality videos and bring you knowledge. I would be happy if you support me with a subscription. Then you will never miss a Gimbal Guru tutorial about 360-video editing, 360-cameras and much more.

appreciate the video but definitely do NOT change the frame rate to 24 FPS if you don't want the footage to slow down. skateboarding, motorcycles, sports of any kind it'll look slow & lose energy in the shot. then you'll have to go back and redo your entire edit after realizing it doesn't look good. Which i'm doing now...

I just posted my first insta 360 x3 video on my channel after following your tips, I has to start over at 30 frames per sec because it would export correctly with other 24 fps video. The camera picked up all kinds of distortion on the lens in bright light. I uploaded a comparison video with DJI pocket 2, aso the audio was just pretty average on the insta 360, I am going to use a Tascam unit next time. The reframe shots were cool though!

Hi. GREAT videos!!! I, too, have an Insta360 OneX and a OneR. And, I also have Adobe Creative Kit. However, whenever I try to create my videos for uploading, the end result always seems to be that the video does not allow for manipulation by the viewer. In other words, when I watch YOUR video (of the waterfall, for example), I'm able to use my cursor to move around. Do you have a tutorial or a cheatsheet which gives a step-by-step on how to create such a video that allows interaction by the viewer? Many thanks!!!

Is this better or more advanced than using the 360 app on phone or 360 app on mac? And importing footage to premiere pro?
Colour grading confuses me too lol I just use the film stock fuji and make one or two basic changes and then only to my drone footage 😀 I try to keep it all simple....

Thanks for the video. This looks like a far better workflow than processing the 360 video first. I downloaded and installed it, dragged the effect onto my proxy clip, but I cannot get the GoPro FX Reframe plugin to work. When I adjust the sliders nothing happens to the video. I am left with a really slow workflow of adjusting everything in Insta 360 first, rendering it and then exporting to Premiere Pro to edit with clips from other cameras. This is not ideal, obviously. I was hoping this would work. Ideas anyone? (My laptop is fairly high spec - 64GB of RAM, 8 cores - 2.3GHz i7, GPU is GeForce RTX 2060)

    • @jeliebeen
      @jeliebeen Год назад

New to 360 video here, but doing a lot of the same research as you.
The shoulder mount is pretty common. The biggest question is going to be exactly how you mount it. As a general point, though, a 360 camera will be able to get the exact same framing as a gopro and more. So if you are able to get the framing you want with a gopro, you will be able to get it with the X3 (unless your setup is so specific that the different form factors make it impossible).
There are plenty of examples online like this one: ruclips.net/video/9tP-KU5IRsQ/видео.html

That was an excellent video, thank you!! I have a question though: when you created a new Sequence, why did you select a 1080 preset and then change it to 4K? Why not start with a 4K preset? Also, if I'm rendering my finished video at 1080, what Zoom level (in the GoPro plugin) will result in being too magnified resulted in less detail? In other words, how much can I zoom in on the 360 footage before the crop ends up being smaller than 1080 resolution?

Thanks for the video but proxies generation doesn't works properly with INSV files, because of "source settings" does not acting over the MP4 proxy file (will only work over INSV proxy files). So the only solution to this is use de LRV files that the cams generate, and use/attach them as proxies.
SO REMEMBER GUYS!! Don't delete LRV files!! If you are going to work with INSV files directly, they are your besties 😂✌

Thanks for producing this as it seems Premiere is the best 360 editing platform. However perhaps it is out of date as It would not work for me with current Feb 2023 Premiere/fx plug-in. When I drop the effect onto the clip it does not respond to remove distortion etc. Effect controls show up but do not work. I only dropped one of the pair of clips into timeline as I understood they would associate. Any suggestions on this ? thank you

Its not working for me either. I have pro 2022 and it doesn't appear to stitch the videos and doesn't allow me to reframe the footage.

At minute 10, you added GoPro FX Reframe and were able to move the video manually still. It did not do it for me. Followed every step.
    Any ideas?

In Premiere it's skipping/buggy on my 2021 laptop, but in Insta Studio is perfectly fluent.

Hello, I have a problem after exporting the file, the movie is ready but in the form of 360 it means that the viewer can rotate the movie on RUclips, not what I marked in PR. I have everything marked as in your video

I search for this answer too. So I understood that it is not possible to do Reframing with output 360 videos. Reframing is only to do out of 360° videos a normal videos.

    hello. I am using 360 1 inch,
While using the lens guard... When the light is strong, the shape of the lens guard is occasionally recorded on the screen. Is there a way to remove it?

Great video, but I also don't agree with the frame rate change. Seems unnecessary.

Hi Thanks for your tutorial. Its great on nearly everything excpet one. If I may, there is one very odd thing you do, its that your change the frame rate to 23,976, not 24, and then you create a 24 fps timeline, that makes no sense. Premiere handles very poorly differences between source and timeline fps. If you want a 24 fps result you should modifiy your source footage to real 24 fps (not 23,976). 23,976 is a shooting format with the intent to convert to NTSC (US and Japan TV standards), there is no other reason to use that frame rate.
