    I remember doing this job on my first 2CV, but being a penniless student, I had to source the parts from the scrappy. Whilst I was there, I also got 5 wheels with good tyres (Michelin X) a full very recent exhaust and some bits of trim etc, filling up my dad’s Suzuki Carry. The scrap man took a look at my bounty, and asked for the princely sum of £4! It was the days when you went car mountaineering and got your own parts off though!

    I love Elly. I wanted a 2CV of my own but they’re too expensive at the moment. Simple mechanicals but so well designed that they rarely break traction in a corner in spite of the prodigious lean (unlike the similar Renault 4). What a hoot they must be. Brill video Ian Pete 🇬🇧

    Ian, I live on a farm, and like you I have my workshop in a farm building with the same kind of ventilated wall at one end. A big tip I can give you is to get some tarpaulin and cover that wall. I just used some bits of batten to hold mine in place - it's been there for about 10 years now. It makes the world of difference, stops the cold wind and rain blowing in. And if we get a winter where we get a lot of that fine powdery snow, it will stop everything in the unit getting covered in it. You will be surprised to see just how much of that fine snow will blow in. It settles and sticks to everything, then makes a fine mess when it melts.

    If you take the rubbers from a swing-top-bottle you can put them on the axles before you put the wiperarms on. The rubbers (the ones from Grolsch beerbottles fit fine) will stop water coming in. Your wipers will love you for that ;-)

    I had a mk2 facelift Clio sport. To get to a split screenwash bottle I had to remove the scuttle panel, the wipers and complete mechanism and I think the fuse box to access it. I think it also recommended removing the bonnet. I didn't bother with that though. Pig of a job for such a pathetic repair on a split bottle seam! You can't beat the simplicity of the older cars!

    At the base of the spindle there should be a bolt or screw that holds it together. If you loosen it you should be able to adjust the bit where the shaft from the drive motor attaches to the spindle. Rotating that bit a small amount will get proper wiping coverage and end the locking issue. Or loosening the nut that holds the spindle in place and rotating the spindle assembly a small bit will do the same thing.

    • @solbot
      @solbot 4 года назад +1

      Just remember a small adjustment at the spindle makes a large difference at the end of the wiper arm.

    Ive looked at the video... alot. It's almost as if the wiper thats locking up: has the arm that feeds it, be too short, so pulls the spidle further round than it should be, or the timing of the main motar is out, compaired to the angle of the rods, if you look at the perpandicular rods the one from the spare, the motar is further round the clock face 20 past, comapried to 15 past. I don't know if any of these would make a difference, just thought i'd share my thougts.

    Yes, deffo - either the link is considerably too short or the wiper spindle too far away from the motor. I'd suggest extending the linkage #welding.
    It might be that they've done it on purpose in an effort to get a little more throw on the wiper - but what the result is is poor engineering.
