    The absolute perfect example you can show to any fan that coaching matters.
    You can have hall of famers. A great pass rush , a great rushing defense , good run game and a great passing game.
    If you don’t have a coach who can teach and enforce fundamentals. Such as not fumbling . And EVERY good coach is a great special teams assembler and delegator.

      thats what happened with the 49ers before Harbaugh came. they had a lot of great players in the defensive and a couple of pieces in the offense. yet they always had a losing season because of bad coaching. Harbaugh came a long and instantly made them SB contenders. kinda similar with the Chargers with the suppose loaded team every year, just to fall short because of bad coaching

    Of the 2006 Chargers I blame Nate Kaeding who kept missing FGs in big games during game and never as the last play. Put the team into more pressure of not having those extra points by kicker. The stats of ST of Chargers is on Nate Kaeding were one of the lowest and the KEY WEAKNESS of the 2006 Chargers. Guy was a head case and caught looking stressed hoping he not have to come in to kick, he never warmed up and just stood there while waiting for team not to depend on him.

    Those rankings are a little smoke and mirror since it only takes into account yards. I remember when it was brought up after the season that we were number one in offense and defense but it never really FELT like that during the season. We were really good at times (we were 13-3 the year before why wouldn’t we be?) but all the untimely mistakes on all sides of the ball and the slow start is really what defines that team, not some statistical misnomer.

      Numbers are definitely skewed but Chargers still had the second most points per game and 10th fewest allowed. Yards aren't always a great representation of how good a team is as you pointed out. Still impressive to be the first team since 1996 to league in offense and defense.

    Chargers really didn’t have the #1 of offense or defense. It was just the special teams allowed so many returns, blocks, it kept the defense from giving up yards and gave the offense more possession. Chargers weren’t even top 5 in points that year or points allowed.

    • @NotAnInsider
      @NotAnInsider  25 дней назад +2

      The #1 Offense and Defense is based on yards gained and yards allowed.

But still, I don’t think either team is going to win the Super Bowl this coming season or anything. • @ciaranvaille7531
      @ciaranvaille7531 25 дней назад

      @@NotAnInsider Maybe so. I’m not a big Mike McCarthy hater or lover. I do think he streamlined the offense over the course of last season. Many people bashed him for his Texas Coast style offense at the beginning of the season, but it was something that I fully supported the Cowboys trying even before McCarthy took over play calling. And once it became clear that the style of offense wasn’t working because of Pollard’s lack of production, he quickly switched to a more gadget based Cedee Lamb offense. But I certainly wouldn’t oppose a coaching change either, McCarthy’s leadership does seem lethargic. I feel like what really put an end to the Cowboys last season was all of the injuries, especially on defense. Trevon Diggs tearing his ACL after the Jets game was HUGE. The defense had a massive drop off right after that game (they were on a legion of boom trajectory). And even though Bland stepped up, he’s a risk taker and not a lockdown corner like Diggs was transitioning into. Then Micah Parsons also suffered some minor injuries over the course of the season that seemed to really affect his speed. So, I honestly don’t know exactly what could get the Cowboys over the hump at this point. Willing to try anything 😂

    These stats are a fraud.
    Bad special teams was the REASON they had the #1 offense and #1 defense. Those titles btw only focus on yards/game and yards allowed/game. What happens when your opponent is constantly returning punts and kicks for big gains? Your defense has a short field (or doesn’t see the field at all if it was returned for a TD), and your offense always has the ball and dominates time of possession.

      #1 Offense and Defense is based on yards which I and some other comments discussed is deceiving like you said.
      Defense still was 10th in the league in points allowed but scoring on turnovers and special teams isn't accounted for their.

    Chargers didn’t make the playoffs for a reason. They weren’t good enough! Rivers and the Chargers went on a span of almost 10 years starting in 2010-2018 of making the playoffs only twice. He has 5-6 playoff record. That 2010 would’ve gotten wiped out by their daddies the Patriots.

      They played the Patriots and lost by 3 points on what could have been a game tying field goal.

      @@NotAnInsider They were down 20-3 at one point in the 2nd half, but came up short after a comeback which was a pattern for them. The Chargers with Rivers had a habit of starting off with losing records and then rip off wins when the playoffs became further out of reach. They were 3-4 against teams .500 and above. That 2010 Chargers team was not any good. You are reaching.

      Definitely for the 2010 Season. I had seen that they were considered the 5th worst from 1996-2010, however I'm not sure exactly what metric they are using to rank these or the other teams

    It's because Rivers was only good for the first 2 quarters. As a Chargers fan, I completely hated him by 2012. All he was good for was running his mouth and late game ints
