Oh, Mark. I'm sorry for the devastation of your garden and landscape. I know how hard you work at making your space beautiful and proud to share it with us. You are wise to acknowledge that its most likely too late for it to come back this year and instead focus on the new hydrangeas and the pine you planted this year. The moles?? I don't even know what to say - 😪 We look forward to seeing you when you can and I love a good antique showing anytime. 👍
Well, we finally got some much needed rain. It has started to improve, a bit. Some things are already past their prime in this heat, but the local garden centers don't have anything good in stock to replace/refresh. I won the battle with the destructive mole yesterday. I've never had one thing cause that much damage!
As far as no rain I feel you! We are running sprinklers all day long at 2 hours in each area at a time. The only nice thing is that I haven't heard the constant roar of lawn mowers for over 3 weeks now. This year I planted my tomato plants in oversized plastic containers with the bottoms cut out. They're doing great and seen to retain more moisture than planted directly in the ground. Those moles are CRAZY! Fingers crossed for some relief.
We did get some rain which has really helped. And, I did win the battle with the most destructive mole yesterday. So, I think we can get back on track around here. Your tomatoes sound great! That's the only thing I have left in my vegetable garden that's doing well.
Oh, my! I can feel your frustration. Makes me feel guilty that my small garden is lush after days of rain, although it was pretty scorched after a dry summer. Those moles must go!! Hang in there.
Well, it's been two days since you posted this video, and this morning here east of Richmond it poured down rain! I hope you got rain at your house, too. My little vegetable garden spot is actually a bit muddy! I'm so thankful to finally get some rain after all this time. It seemed to rain all around us, but never here except like you said, a little sprinkle here and there that didn't even settle the dust. I've been watering a lot just to keep plants alive and I dread seeing my next water bill. I'm so sorry about the mole damage. I've never seen them do that much destruction anywhere I've ever lived. I hope we get more rain this week so our lawns and plants can do better and we can take a break from watering every single day.
We have finally gotten some rain and things have started to improve. But, some things look like they're past the point of no return. I went to a couple of big box garden centers just looking for some fresh petunias for the garden urns and all of their stuff looked as bad or worse. The mole damage has been bad, but I did win that battle this week! 😂
That's unusual... haven't seen many grasshoppers around here in awhile (not that I want too). I can remember as a child they were so bad around here they would chew holes in the non-metal window screens.

I'm still getting some good tomatoes! And, I won a battle with the mole yesterday! Now things can get back on track!

We are having the same issues plus the worst case of grasshoppers we've seen in many years!!!!! You aren't being negative when it's the truth!

@@antiquegardenshowcase same happened to our window screens one summer in the early 80s.
