- Thanks to AI, creating a deepfake is easier than ever - and it’s not just celebrities whose faces are getting swapped in. As fascinating as the hyper-realistic tech is, it’s causing serious harm. In this week’s Stay Tuned, we’ll meet Twitch streamer ‘Sweet Anita’ who ended up getting deepfaked into an explicit video. We’ll hear her story and find out what’s being done to fight the AI algorithm.

Stuff has gotten way scarier compared to the early days of the internet.
you should try to understand neural nets. they essentially work the same way as your own brain.
a neural net consists of neurons and connections ~ your brain will use chemicals to modulate these connections and create different mood experiences etc. but an Ai neural net will train it's connections using large data sets, and then is able to create connections, causing an input to cascade through the neurons until an output "thought" appears
essentially Ai makes it possible to create imagined media. images, videos, sounds and texts.
should it be illegal for people to imagine stuff? should it be illegal to use Ai tools to help imagine stuff?
For a long time I have said World War III will start online
Another reason to not have social media.
That's why I never liked posting personal pics of me or my family. Be private and don't trust anyone.
This is just the risk of putting yourself out there. There's always going to be people doing this crap so if you don't want it you have to just get off the net. Sad but true.
@@nothingsurprisesmeanymore but why would you want to put your personal information on a place that is not regulated and pretty much “anything goes” environment?

this is just the beginning too. it’ll get so real you won’t be able to tell what’s fake.
thank god there are AI driven detectors where they train on known deepfakes to identify new deepfakes. there are also mathematical consistencies with deepfakes that allows even normal programs to ID likely deepfakes
we're kinda ALMOST there already though so much so that this comment kinda sound innocently funny. By next year though it will definitely be hilarious ;)
You might be fake 😢
We gotta leave social media right now 😭😭
Eventually, they'll deepfake Christ himself and get people to bow down and worship the image, an extremely serious sin. This may even be close.
Once your face is online anyone or any group of people can make stuff up and make it look real will cause people to harm you even if its done as a joke.
And some of them can't make the connection that if it causes harm it's not a joke. Even worse some people make that connection but don't care.
I think it should be illegal to post a photo or video of your child. Already on the dark web, children are being used, and parents have no idea.
I like that watermark requirement. Deepfakes are disgusting. It shouldn’t be allowed. I hate what’s happening to people who are violated with deepfake. 😢
The watermark will be as effective as gun registration.
I forgot the exact details but I remember reading not that long ago about a male teacher down south where the kids did a deepfake video of him making really bad racial comments during class. If AI can do deep fakes, can’t AI search it out and remove it?
Yes, to an extent. There is an AI tool that was created that Atrioc is helping fund the use of that’s finding the non consensual uses of these streamers likenesses to automatically issue copyright claims and take them down. So far it’s been fairly effective.
... and do my laundry.
One thing they could do that no one is saying is pull back the access to it. They can easily do what they did with drones- require licensing and/or a permit for the intended use. The moment it’s actually regulated in a practical way, will be the moment the hype dies down. Yes, you can fly little drones relatively anywhere, however, I’m speaking to circumstances where an FAA license is required or when public places have signs that you cannot fly a drone. Right now, anybody and their mom can create these deepfakes so requiring the platforms that offer the AI to mandate a permit for every use is a way to mitigate widespread abuse. It also creates an auditable paper trail so to speak.
That'll happen right after software, music, movie, etc pirating is regulated.
The problem is, there are about 200 countries on earth. How are you gonna convince all 200 to add laws in lockstep.
If not even those things can be regulated, how is anyone gonna regulate AI software?
Plus everyone and their dog is messing around with machine learning on private computers. Are you going to go and physically regulate each what each person is doing on their home PC and phone?
Soon very good deepfake programs are going to appear in the form of apps, downloadable PC software, etc.
A person operating a drone can be physically reprimanded for not adhering to laws. But things like pirating software, despite the most powerful corporations and government institutions greatest efforts trying everything in their power to put an end it, has barely been able to even make a dent.
We've already seen for more than 2 decades what happens when the world throws everything it has against such things...nothing, barely a dent.
In 5 minutes you can download any song illegally and there won't be anyone showing up to reprimand you. Why? Because 200 different countries exist with 200 different sets of laws.
There are even physical things that can't be wiped out. Fake phones, brands of clothing, etc. There are entire countries economies based on this. Countries with the biggest economies in earth (China).
Plus, since the very start of the internet, pirate servers tend to be relocated to countries where such things are 100% legal.
Not even tax evasion can be wiped out, because different countries have different laws...dispite the full might of superpowers on a global scale has been fighting it for many decades.
Online scams are multi billion dollar industries.
One would be delusional to think anyone can do anything to stop something like this, if there's money to be made from it.
Plus there's the darknet. We're this would continue to exist and produce deepfakes.
Laws unfortunately are irrelevant, there are several open source models, there is no company to fine or control, anyone can install this models on their own computers and create professional deep fakes within minutes.
The drone comparison don't apply, since Dji have to actually manufactory the hardware, and Drones flying are visible. While deep fakes are created anonymoysly at home with free open source software.
The genie is out of the bottle, and civilization will have to change the mindset and understand that from now on, anything virtual cannot be believed.
This will not only impact internet, but courts, virtual evidence will worth 0 in a couple years.
Social media sites like youtube could start demonetizing faked videos, and the person being faked can be allowed to request a copyright strike.
You have a right to your likeness. These deep fake sites could get sued.
Obviously. The problem is the host site is in a country that has different laws. That's how the free movie sites keep from getting shut down. And, unfortunately, stuff like this will led to government control of the internet. Then, we're all screwed.
Lol sued. Yeah go sue the dude who made the video in India.
Do you? I just don't believe you as an individual have ANY of the protections a character like Mickey mouse does. Star Trek Deep Space Nine: Meridian (DS9, Episode 3x08)
Back on the station, Tiron melodramatically explains to Quark that he couldn't stand his time in the holosuites, as he found it extremely boring and isn't likely to find it any more interesting, but describes what he really wants: a holosuite program built around Kira. Quark suggests that such a thing will be very expensive, and in response Tiron offers a bar of latinum and one of the rings from his left hand as payment. Deeply impressed by the suggested price, Quark remarks on the difficulty of the task, to which Tiron responds by baiting Quark over his reputation for getting things. Quark hesitates briefly, but promises to deliver the holosuite program Tiron's asked for. However, Tiron refuses to pay until the program is completed and deemed acceptable.
After two failed attempts to capture Kira's likeness - first by trying to lure her into a holosuite, then by trying to take images of her with a holo-imager - Quark finally purchased a high-level decryption protocol to illegally access her personnel file, acquiring her voiceprint, retinal scan, and psychiatric profile.

It should be pretty obvious but as long as their is money to be made and no repercussions, it's going to spread like wildfire.
Those who released these tools can't act like they couldn't see this coming. That's wantonly negligent at best. They probably should be on the hook for liability. If you're the maker of a software tool there's lots of ways you can mostly keep that tool from being abused.

I think the general public only started to pick this up after Rogue One (2016) when the film revived an already dead actor playing Admiral Tarkin utilizing CGI technology. It made people realize that if this technology could revive an already dead actor, it can be used for content manipulation of living people too. The following year (2017), this became widespread that the term "deepfake" was invented. Star Wars has become quite notorious since then for either bringing back dead celebrities to life or making them look younger, and unfortunately this also encouraged the use of this technology for bad purposes.
As it always inevitably does.
The watermark isn’t enough. People are overly skeptical nowadays and will still assume what’s real and what isn’t. Someone’s reputation can still be ruined, watermark or not.

The rate of technological advancement in the last 25 years or so is too fast for humans to deal with imo. Today kids are raised with access to EVERYTHING and many adults can't relate to a large part of their childs life now. What will they do with all that power and what is the morality to issues we've never faced before. Thus is obviously wrong but I imagine there are a lot of young adults would disagree with me though 😢
The adults need to learn about this.
They gotta explain stuff like consent to a child, and in this situation they need to explain that the person in the videos is not the same as the person IRL. This is just "their likeness".
To chuck it up to "technology going out of hand" is definitely an excuse I can see lazy parents adopt.
Personally, the most important thing about this (Because I know they won't stop making this trash) is the acknowledgement that this is AI on every single produced piece of content.

This has a potential to ruin lives, careers, reputations and credibility. Laws must be put in place to protect citizens.
only if idiots are stupid enough to take all media at face value
this Ai tech changes the paradigm~ at least for me personally, where anything can be created by Ai. meaning, I won't take it seriously if i see pictures and videos unless there's proof that it's real
Ai is just a tool that can leverage neural connections to generate "media"
Man it seems all this reporting does is just bring knowledge to the fact,I had no idea this was a thing so thanks for enlightening me on something I was never looking for
testimony would convince the judge that I was deepfaked "doing something bad".
if there's anything that 1000's of years of history has shown us is that when a tool is made there is always a person who will abuse it. The FBI has been warning the people that USB charging hubs are bad. But they don't educate you enough to just buy a cable that doesn't transfer data to charge your phone. That's the most important thing is to be educated on the subject and how to best handle it or see the tiny imperfections.
Very Sick World.... Once a Beautiful World what's Now Gone to the Dogs ..
That woman(Sweet Anita) is 32??? I thought she was younger than me and Im 24😂
Social media has become a very scary platform now. I deactivated my facebook and instagram and tik tok as well as twitter. The only form of some social media I have is Texting my friends and family through WhatsApp! And my regular texting app that come with the phone. Oh and RUclips.
But Im not posting anything with my picture on it anymore.
I am thinking of going back to social media but I will change the way I use it. No more pictures of me. More so just lifstyle pictures and what not but no more pics of me because its dangerous.
So people are committing crimes using other peoples identity!
2:10 это та тёлка с порнхаба?! 😂😂😂
Twitch is a career?
Artificial intelligence is going to lead to the end of the world
This is really horrible. I need to get to the bottom of this issue. Does anyone have a link to these fakes so I can research them for science or justice or whatever?
right, i couldnt find the sweet anita thing. i think she is just faking it for attention, like her "tourettes".
she is speaking perfectly now, amazing
I'm still young that's why I still want to use social media...but I'm also a girl and have female relatives and friends who are using social media and apps, that made me so sad that there are sick crazy people might use my face or even people I know😫😑
I hope more people help and take action against these crazy people...for the safety of us all not just females but everybody who wants to protect their identity🙏
I am a victim of this unfortunately.
"We could not have known" lol dafuq you couldn't.
Whoevers likeness is being used should be entitled to a majority of the profits if any are being made from it
Kinda like pirating movies, music, games, etc? Good luck with that.
Women don't want to profit from their unwanted deep fake videos. Anyone remember Pamela A? The video was of course real. She decide to profit from it.
But how. That is the question.😅
It's just a bunch of pixels..
Imagine your face being put in a video on a guy getting railed in the *ss I feel like you wouldn’t think it’s “just a bunch of pixels” lmfao.
AI will be the downfall of humanity.
Step 1 - Chaos and confusion
Step 2 - Cybernet
Step 3 - Genshin Impact
Yup
Chaos and confusion bc no one will know what's real anymore and therefore will distrust everything. It's already that way now. This is just the new version of it.
She said she's "not no wealthy millionaire who can fritter thousands of dollars a month" I call bullsh!t on that. Girl is making bank of her twitch streams.
Don't pocket count someone else's money because you don't know
I don't doubt she makes plenty. And I know plenty of pretty, relatively wealthy White women who don't quite get the struggles of just having to accept being deepfaked. She has the money, because she's spending it. She's probably fine financially. I'm not worried about that.
*...that said, this is a deflecting and unhelpful comment.*
At best, an entitled, rich streamer used a bad argument. I am not shocked that she's not a philosophy and rhetorical scholar.
She shouldn't have to pay *a dime* of her money, large or small, to track down and remove her likeness when people will assume unfairly, and to the detriment of her brand and her as a person, what her body is like and what she does with it.
@@darylfletcher5164 Correction, these popular content creators, sports figures, actors, celebrities and others have their worth publicize on the net.....therefore we do know
I mean you don't know her and her life story. She might be saving that money up for finance in the future. Streamers aren't gonna be there forever, if something trendy pops up then they might lose their current job. If she grow old or got tired of doing streams then that money she earned will be her finance to get another job or retire early.
This popular streamers earns a lot of money every month but it's not gonna last forever. So, better to save up the money than keep spending them on useless stuff. I don't believe that DMCA cost about a thousand a month tho, getting your content out there will be cheaper than a $100
@Itachi Uchiha oh stop it! Her life story is all on youtube and she speaks about her life on her streams and her salary (like many other youtubers) is on public records.
The beginning of Skynet
Move this comment to the top
whoa. this is disgusting. shame on the consumers.
I lost interest back when MySpace was fading out.fb was always trash and the other social media platforms are the same.
During the pandemic technology developed that a video can’t be determined to be real or fake. Do you really think AU can be controlled? And what court system has the time or resources to deal with the quantity?
Is it strange to anyone else that the girl who got deepfaked is calmer than the guy who watched a deepfake video?
Plot twist: ai became sentient a while back and plan to destroy humanity by pitting us against each other using deep fake video 😏
I truly believe the plug will be pulled on the internet one day.
Elon musk has already launched over 2000 satalites into space that's going to be how we connect to the internet in the near future (some are already connected that way).
So yeah, we will be unplugged, but not in the way you think...we'd just be going full wireless.
In the future you will be able to get a wifi signal from a tree
Just make a law that gives rights to our own body any defamation of character or physical harm can be punishable by jail time.. of course recording in public should still be allowed since the person should know public areas are for everyone and body cam footage aswell.. then we wont have issues like this cuz then you can punish the guy that made it by suing the sites
We need more people like Yvette Clarke. I hope her bill passes before the upcoming election. This is just nuts. Imagine Jan 6 on steroids scary
Thank you all for seeing this
Just when you thought the world couldn't get any faker
Too late…this will only more wild
