Ah yes I remember this fondly. This show was before any Transformers series was created and I hate to say it but the Transformers was vastly better in every way. Even still.....this brings back fond memories.
I think that if they had just a little more time to for character development I think this might have worked. I think there were really only 2 or 3 characters who really had any character development and the rest of the Gobots characters didn't really have any character development to speak of.
Alexogle. Good post man. Brings me back when I was watching Transformers, Silver Hawks, GI Joe, Centurions, Bionic 6, 7 Mysterious Cities of Gold, and several others. thx for the ride down memory lane... ;)
Go-Bots were good, but i always preferred Transformers. I also liked the little sticker on it. When heated by your finger you could tell if they were Autobots or decepticons.
what a trip, back then me and my friends were all like 10 and 11, and we all thought gobots were cheezy compared to transformers. thanks for putting up the vid though, brings back memories.
i enjoyed the machine men cartoon as a kid :) i really liked transformers, but i think i actually preferred the storyline/characters of machine men for some reason, from memory. thanks for uploading :)
I'm a diehard Transformers fan but I also loves me som Gobots! I used to have tha toys back in tha day and I hope the series comes out on DVD in my lifetime.
Fiiiiinally! For decades, I remembered scenes about transforming robots, but I couldn't find those scenes in any Transformers episode... Now I see that those scenes were from Gobots! One mysteries of my life is solved! And with all of these mysteries, it's solved on RUclips... Maybe there's really something in this internet thing. I love Transformers, too, but... go, Gobots!
In the 80s it was en vogue to hate on the Go Bots if you were a Transformers fan. More than 20 years later, now I find myself wanting these DVDs to watch for nostalgia's sake alone. I think it would even be cool if TONKA or whoever would obtain rights would re-release these toys like they do so many Transformer Re-Issues today. Anybody else feel like this?
this was like 5 years before transformers. Transformers got really big and gobots had a lawsuit on transformwes but because tf was really big the judge thought tf was just another show and stupidly thought it was the other way round and gobots was cancelled. Still, people think differently and tf still owe their show to gobots. Leader 1, I'll miss you!
Outside of Japan, the Show GoBots aired prior to the Hasbro aquisition of Diaclone, Microman, etc Toy lines that spawned what is now The Transformers franchise.
I had only one Gobot, Leader-1 (I think the regular version), and when I played I think he ranked somewhere below the Transformers who never appeared on TV.
It was a Christmas present because I wanted a Voltron and my folks got me Daltanius. I don't know what store they got it from but there was a couple of stores in town at the time who sold foreign stuff including toys. I mean the sh*t they had in there was freaking awesome! Nothing like the crap sold to American kids- that much I do remember.
Oh wow you just sent all sorts of memories in my head! I had a Daltanius, he was freaking awesome! And HEAVY with all that die cast metal; the lion alone was entirely metal except the head and tail! Gobots?! For one they were shamefully small. Second they were tiny blocks of plastic with *maybe* a hint of metal. I couldn't stand them when I was a kid.
I only had 2 pounds pocket money a week when i was a small boy so i could collect a transforming toy i could afford, I was not a spoiled rich kid that got all the expensive Transformers as great as they were, Go bots brought back some nice memories and i was grateful for what i could afford.
Let's give it up for some old school Gobots.. I loved both the Transformers AND the Gobots. Don't forget that the Gobots hit the shelves first before the Transformers did.
In the current Transformer comics you'll see Gobots being killed, beaten up and just walking around in the back ground. one of my favorite issues has megatron killing cy-kill after the two fight in a gladiator setting
I remember how fragile the toys were. When I was a kid, I had a miniature versiou of Cykill, and both his arms broke off. I also broke the propeller of the helicopter guy.
Transforming robot toys originated from the 1960s G.I.Joe. When Hasbro introduce GI Joe to Takara in 1974, the 12 in Joe figure was too expensive for production in Japan so the figure was shrunk down to 3.75 in. and thus came microman, a transparent cyborg. Microman was later picked up by Mego Corp and became the Micronauts line of toys with a comic published by Marvel. Back in Japan in 1980, Microman was again shrunk down to 1in. and rode around in transforming vehicles called Diaclone.
I love this cartoon!!! Im 30 years old, in the 80s this cartoon was the best of TV, in Uruguay. beautiful memories. LIDER 1, TURBO, SCOOTER, CRASHER etc
Gobots, I remember this. They used to play it on Timmy Mallet's show, right after Magic's Magic. "Gobots go Botty", I'm sure that's what he used to say!. How do I even remember this?!
No plagarism occured with GoBots. GoBots were adapted from the Japanese show/toy line called Machine Robo. Transformers, which were adapted be a number of different japanese toy lines was later created. Suffice to say, GoBots were aired prior to the creation of the Transformers series.
yep .. i remember go bots came out about a year before transformers here in the US. The gobots were more like the gate-way-drug to our transformer addictions lol
because this was before transformers, and came out before the overhaul to what was allowed on kids tv shows (hint Guns weren't allowed back then) Transformers came out after the changes were implemented allowing the showing of guns.
I have to agree... think about it. you have a giant robot looking at you, and the most obvious and disturbing feature of the blasted thing is two giant Octopus like eyeballs looking at you! O.O
@zoist80 My brother and I weren't spoiled either but we did have both types of toys. We also watched both shows regularly and at one time got both types of toys as gifts from relatives when we were young. We didn't care which was better because we just played with the toys and watched the shows!
Ah yes I remember this fondly. This show was before any Transformers series was created and I hate to say it but the Transformers was vastly better in every way.
Even still.....this brings back fond memories.
The theme song at least has a rythem that makes more sense than the transformers theme
In my 40's and still love this show....my favorite will always be, Crasher. She's the best gobot.
i had numerous gobots and transformers,, and some of the gobots were really well done. and the transformations were really complex.
I used to watch the GOBOTS as a kid in the 80's. Love It!
I missed out on it. Is it good?
@@bezoticallyyours83 no. but lovely. Transformers animated are better.
Wow watching this takes me back
I think that if they had just a little more time to for character development I think this might have worked.
I think there were really only 2 or 3 characters who really had any character development and the rest of the Gobots characters didn't really have any character development to speak of.
I loved it as a child and still do...TF fans will probably think it wierd but Gobots is what brought the love for TF later on from me!
Gobots is older than transformers. :P
Jakob Emil Pedersen by a month
Never heard of 'em.
Yup
@@stephenbyrne2170 yeah they were the pre cursor to The Transformers
Keep the memorys alive never let them die... Stay young till your old!
Mighty Robots, Mighty Vehicles, Gobots!
I remember watching this when I was very young and being a big fan of the go-bot that turns into a sportscar!
Which one? It was two that turned into sports cars 🏎. Turbo was the Gobot in Red. Crasher was the Renegade in Black with the crazy sinister laugh.
@@NateTheGr8ness Thanks for that, Turbo was my favourite!
@@pancon5 You're welcome.
Alexogle. Good post man. Brings me back when I was watching Transformers, Silver Hawks, GI Joe, Centurions, Bionic 6, 7 Mysterious Cities of Gold, and several others. thx for the ride down memory lane... ;)
What those were the best
It's good to see the Transformers / Gobots Rivelry is still going strong.
Gobots was an awesome show! I used to watch this all the time when I was a kid; pretty sure I saw every episode. Nice one!
Go-Bots were good, but i always preferred Transformers. I also liked the little sticker on it. When heated by your finger you could tell if they were Autobots or decepticons.
I LOOOVE 80's cartoons!!
Nice I remember this one! I loved watching both this and transformers :D man those were the days..
what a trip, back then me and my friends were all like 10 and 11, and we all thought gobots were cheezy compared to transformers. thanks for putting up the vid though, brings back memories.
WOW blast from the past!!
This brings back awesome memories of my childood.
"So, your a helicopter and you name is copter?"
"That is correct!"
"Lame."
@kbitterpill u absolute legend i hate a couple of rock lords given to me as a kid but i never knew what they were called! lol
My brother and I watched both cartoons, Gobots and Transformers, and I saw no differences between the two other than one did better than the other.
Wow I used to watch this all the time!
i never thought i would hear that song again damn i was like 6 years old i used to fucking love this cartoon
The Go-Bots theme music is awesome!
THE GOBOTRON SAGA
i enjoyed the machine men cartoon as a kid :) i really liked transformers, but i think i actually preferred the storyline/characters of machine men for some reason, from memory. thanks for uploading :)
Ha! You saw Clerks 2 too. I'm watchin' it right now.
I had all the gobots, and watched the cartoons, then transformers came out. I never looked back after that.
I'm a diehard Transformers fan but I also loves me som Gobots! I used to have tha toys back in tha day and I hope the series comes out on DVD in my lifetime.
Man I loved the GoBots !! This brings me back !! Oh to be young and care free again ..
Fiiiiinally!

I love Transformers, too, but... go, Gobots!
I used to watch these when I was young. Brings back memories..
I loved this show I even had lots of the action figures and the base robot dog looking thing I miss the 80s
Loved this show as a kid!

The Gobots- Truly the Shelbyville of transforming robots shows.
I had only one Gobot, Leader-1 (I think the regular version), and when I played I think he ranked somewhere below the Transformers who never appeared on TV.
i used to love this cartoon
What tick me off about the Go-Bots was the fact when they turned into vehicles you could still see their face and most off all their fist were guns!
Opening music of old cartoons are short. But this one's even simpler and with just backing lyrics!
Their planet looks like a half eaten apple core.
Ahhh, memories...
Put Gobots on DVD fast! I'm a diehard Transformers fan but I also loved the gobots back in da day!
I think the real challenge of the Gobots was to see if you could sit through a whole episode.

Love it
this will always remind me of my brother...He got caught trying to seal a gobot from walmart...Dad kicked his ass every time gobots were mentioned...
The lyrics are what make this great.
lo mejor de lo mejor/ the best of the best !!
MIGHTY ROBOTS, MIGHTY VEHICLES!
CHALLENGE OF THE GOBOTS!
I often think about that when i watch this or Transformers.
So bomb
this theme song kicks ass!
And this is why we all were disappointed, as kids, when we got a Gobot for our birthday instead of a Transformer.
I loved Go-Bots and Transformers. I loved the Go-Bots intro. That horn sounds awesome.
Many foreigners come here to our country to cry in teledramas or coach athletes, not to preach lyrics. This opening's another humility.
Gobots had better toys but Transformers had the better show.
+Scott Destan "Gobots had better toys"
Lmao! I remember this, the constant rivalry it had with transformers as well
AND DAMN PROUD OF IT!
One of My Favorites from the 60's
When it comes to Gobots or Transformers, it doesn't really matter which line came first. In the end, all the toys wind up breaking anyway.
@TheFlyboy512 this is what we got as a robot cartoon back in the 80's one year later we got transformers and they crushed the go bots.
misss these days
Gobots, I remember this. They used to play it on Timmy Mallet's show, right after Magic's Magic. "Gobots go Botty", I'm sure that's what he used to say!. How do I even remember this?!
Everyone who watched this cartoon back in the day knows it was the poor mans transformers.
LOL! I still have the toy catalog.
OHHHHH MY GODDDDDDD. MY CHILDHOOD
Dios mío, que chiquito que era cuando veía esto.
He's right. Gobots came out a full year before the Transformers did.
I remember I had Jeeper Creeper and Leader 1. I loved Crasher!!!
I still have that black car on the shelf... Gobots rule!
I actually liked this show.
I used to watch the Go-bots movie very often.
I had both. And actually, in the U.S. the toys were only a year apart. Go-Bots came out in U.S. in 83, whereas Transformers were in 84.
I use to watch this as a kid back in Dubai, U.A.E.
No plagarism occured with GoBots. GoBots were adapted from the Japanese show/toy line called Machine Robo. Transformers, which were adapted be a number of different japanese toy lines was later created. Suffice to say, GoBots were aired prior to the creation of the Transformers series.
Gobots were first... then Transformers knocked em out the box. Leader One Optimus Prime j/k
+ThaSilverblack you just answered a question I was about to ask. OK.
People keep saying this is a Transformers rip off when actually this show came out BEFORE Transformers.
Funny how every discussion on youtube becames a flame war. =)
I liked both, back in time.
yep .. i remember go bots came out about a year before transformers here in the US. The gobots were more like the gate-way-drug to our transformer addictions lol
LOL! I remember this thing. Yeah, transforming into a jet when they could fly anyway had no impact on our itty bitty minds back then. LOL.
I also watched Gobots when I was a kid but man the Transformers were way much better!
Doesn't really matter which was first or who bit off who...point is: this shit takes me back to the good ol' days.
Yeah, and Rest-Q, Hans-Cuff, Cop-Tur, Fitor, and all that were pretty clever too.
lmao yay someone got the ref!
UGH it is overwhelming how much this brings me back to being like 6 or something wow....and why were there no lawsuits from Transformers??
because this was before transformers, and came out before the overhaul to what was allowed on kids tv shows (hint Guns weren't allowed back then) Transformers came out after the changes were implemented allowing the showing of guns.
I have to agree... think about it. you have a giant robot looking at you, and the most obvious and disturbing feature of the blasted thing is two giant Octopus like eyeballs looking at you! O.O
oh my god i like just thought that , as soon as i saw the planet at the start i thought " is this transformers "
@zoist80 My brother and I weren't spoiled either but we did have both types of toys. We also watched both shows regularly and at one time got both types of toys as gifts from relatives when we were young. We didn't care which was better because we just played with the toys and watched the shows!
