This is Your Life - Sue Johnston

Our next episode of This Is Your Life begins in Manchester with a small puzzle: what connects Coronation Street, Brookside, and Liverpool legend John Barnes? The answer lies in one of the UK’s most beloved actresses, a lifelong football fan whose journey to fame began with a stint on Coronation Street. However, she truly became a household name during her time on Brookside Close, Liverpool. Before her rise to stardom, she worked in a glass factory.
At the time of this surprise, she was starring in the BBC’s award-winning sitcom The Royle Family. Michael plans to catch her during a performance at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.
In 1996, the theatre was heavily damaged by a bomb planted by the IRA, just a day before a Euro ’96 match between Russia and Germany. Thankfully, the venue underwent extensive renovations and was fully restored. By the time of this episode, it was thriving once more, setting the stage for Michael’s unscripted appearance to honor Brookside legend Sue Johnston.

In the 1980s I was organising a charity event, and contacted Sue's agent asking if Suecould open it. To my amazement she rang me to apologise, as she couldn't make it. We had a lovely chat, and she was just as lovely as she is on screen. A truly special lady, and a wonderful actress
