I carry nothing in my 68 Bay. AA card thats it. Appreciate if I was travelling like you are in it I'd need more tools, but in 20yrs of owning an Air-cooled ive only broken down a couple of times.
most bus owners use them for daily drives or weekend trips and live in pretty flat areas, so if maintained correctly, they should very rarely need fixing. You see people post regularly about their broken VW and it is mostly due to bad maintenance or adjustment. Our trip is a little bit more extreme and the washboard roads down here can be brutal. If it screws in,the roads will screw it back out 😭 Thanks for giving this a browse and taking the time to leave us a comment. It really means a lot to us.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!! I"m not insane about the tools and pieces parts I've planned on carrying. I hadn't thought about spring pliers, those are useful and rarely expected. Something I do carry in all our cars is a Tire Plug Kit. Plugging a tire is a lot easier than changing one. I think you might need at least a couple wire coat hangers. I've found those useful in many instances. Especially for rehanging exhaust pipes. The Bits Box is essential as are spare cables for the accelerator, clutch and various other things controlled in the front but live in the back. Really Great Video and I'll get you a subscription to the 10mm Wrench Club. I keep two 10mm's of each type in my tool box.
Awww soo glad you liked the video, this was made with you in mind. We finished and Willow was cross because she realised she missed things like her test light and multimeter 🤣 We also didn't cover our amalgamating tape for quick pipe leaks. We too carry a repair kit for the tyres, in fact one of our fairly new ATT tyres that we bought in Quito has a puncture, so gotta try and check it out this week. Let us know if there are any other focused videos that you'd like us to record. This week, we are planning on camping for the week, so it's the best time 👍 Hope you are keeping well.
missing the 10mm for sure... Probably carry slightly fewer, but similar range of tools, along with a Toyota specific front wheel nut socket. We do carry a spare starter motor since we have an auto and it can't be bumped, plus 1 front and 1 rear wheel bearing (not that I have the tools to do a rear) plus a fuel filter, alternator brushes and regulator. Carry a jump pack rather than cables, takes less space. Like the idea of the folding jack stand.
You have clearly been schooled well 🤣 Don't think it hurts to be prepared, especially if you occasionally want to visit places a little bit harder to reach.
@@vanlifetipstech everything is just on the large side, with the back, cab and side lockers filled with tools, full service kit and countless spares, Leopards got more luggage than the both of us 🤣🤣
We have both and they get used regularly. So regularly in fact, that we keep them in our glove box, so we apparently forgot to mention them. The video is ruined now, better start again 😭😂
It’s got to be the 10 mm that’s missing my socket set and spanner set has the 10mm missing I have replaced them many times over the years but they still go missing 😂
It was 😭 We kept that set complete and then some f**ker in the garage swiped it. Willow won't let me just buy another 10mm though, sje wants it to have a ratchet end like the original... impossible to find down here 🤣
Amazing work with the green screen background! So realistic!! Are you sure about those jack stands though? Please Be extra safe with those. Did i miss the clutch alignment tool? Noice job 😎 STOC
Axle stands tried and tested, despite looking a bit sketchy. Better than using none at all like we used to! Plus we shove the wheel under for good measure. Always just done clutch alignment by feel on this engine, you can feel the edges of the friction plate against the pressure plate. We missed the multimeter though, which also gets a lot of mileage!!

@@vanlifetipstech glad you use the wheel too! Yeah multimeters or a test light/buzzer are great troubleshooters! Glad to see you two actually Enjoying yourselves after all that work and stress!
It was indeed. The 10mm goblin finally found us in Ecuador 🤣 Cable ties, duct tape and amalgamating tape (sticks to itself and is great for leaky pipes 👍) Nice to hear from you guys again, do you have any grand summer plans?
@TheKombiChronicles we are just working. Campsite work for the summer then 4 months off over winter. 3 of those we will be off to Spain and Portugal 😊xx

Love the view behind

We have moved round to an even nicer spot now.
Pictures please 😊
I remember the hacksaw story from your book. I made a mental note to make sure to have one!
It is a slow process can be a real life saver 🤣

How many times has the border police had you dragging all that out ? Nice pants Willow, thought you would be slightly skimpier than them lol x
Never actually. The worst thing is that the cupboard is so tightly packed, you have to get most of it out just to grab a ratchet or a screwdriver 🤬
How did I miss seeing this one first time around😮
And yes, travelling companion pets are mandatory.
This is the problem with RUclips 😲😥
It chooses what subscribers see the videos, even if they have notifications turned on.
Great video , I still carry lots of tools in my motorhome even though it’s not a VW!! Must be the many years of owning old air coolers 😂😂😂
You have clearly been schooled well 🤣

Great information... Leopards are a little larger in size 🤣. Its amazing how much you squeeze in 👏👏
I bet you have some very specific tools.
It's the common ones that we tend to break or lose 😭

It is often the way. Ruby takes up the most space... and the cats.
If I am lucky there is the occasional space to buy myself a new hat or sandals 🤣
@@vanlifetipstech 😂😂 though I made sure there was space in an under locker for a couple of boxes… our wine cellar 😂😂

Good God..... I have 2 screwdrivers hahaha
In fairness, we have been doing this a lot longer than you, plus you are never too far from the city.
Is your engine behaving itself yet?
😂
I didnt see a multimeter or a lighted probe. I use these frequently to troubleshoot electrical issues.

Of course. We avoided the 10mm goblins for almost 4 years, but they finally caught up to us.

Got to be a 10mm. Torque wrench never needed one yet, everything can be fixed with cable ties and duct tape they even save lives. 😂

Blimey - this is an education 😱
I just carry gaffa tape & the number for roadside rescue 🙄
haha the roads we take are a little more challenging than your daily drive. Not exactly places the AA will come and pick you up from 😬
10mm is missing cos Deans always loosing his 😊

10mm goblins exist and they are pesky little creatures 👹
