Of course :) You can use minced scallion instead of onions. You can also add in minced carrots or green peppers. This is a great way to get kids to eat veggies :)
I checked this out for nostalgia. Used to watch your show once in a while. Suddenly I discovered this brilliant onion chopping technique. Why I never figured it out, I have no idea. But thank you so much!
I made the dish last night with potatoes and carrots from our garden. As I could not buy mixed pork and beef mince and did not want to buy two packets to do it myself, I used minced beef and added two finely chopped closed cap mushrooms to the onion mix (inspired by the cheese Hamburg Steak) which made the meat nice and tender. It was delicious!
@@ArigatoTomodachi-k7j I pass on a recipe I found on Cookpad in Japan... No need to knead by hand! Easy-to-prepare ground turkey hamburger steak 🥩 Ground turkey: 300g Onion: half cut Herbs : any kind you like, in quantity Garlic: 1 clove, minced Ginger: same amount as garlic, minced Salt: small quantity Olive oil (for grilling): as needed Lettuce (for serving): as needed 1⃣ Chop onion, chop herbs too, and put all other ingredients in a bowl. 2⃣ Add ground turkey and mix well with a spoon. 3⃣ Spread olive oil on a frying pan, drop an appropriate amount with a spoon, and fry the shaped 2⃣ until browned on both sides. 4⃣ Serve and complete the dish! (Green vegetables would add color)
So I made this with my 3 sisters for my mom and dad's wedding anniversary. They walked in, and me and my sisters served them the food we made together. One is 9, and the other one is 7. I will not say my age, but i want to say this: Thankyou cookingwithdog, for helping me make their anniversary the best one yet. sincerely, Jasmine
I haven't made this in such a long time. The Dutch market by me has really high quality ground beef and vegetables so I am going to start making this recipe again.
A Rabbit not sure why but the Japanese tend to blend beef and pork. Usually a 80/20 mix (beef/pork). I’ve tried this and the patty becomes juicier and more soft in texture compared to pure beef.
I just finished making this dish, although I regret I could not find the ingredients for the onion gravy, but it fills my home with a very nice smell. Everyone likes it and I hope to recreate another one of your recipes!
I made this yesterday. It was very moist and surprisingly sweet! I was bemused that the smell of nutmeg was so strong as I cooked it. While I will use slightly less nutmeg the next time I make this, it did give the dish a subtly rich and surprising flavor. I'll make this again when friends or family ask me for meatloaf; I think this fits the bill while definitely being a bit "out of the ordinary."
Made this for dinner tonight... so so so delicious. Reminds me of the Japanese chain restaurants that serve western style food in Taipei. Sometimes it is served with a little hot buttered rice which is great if you make extra gravy. Yummmsss!! Thank you Chef and Francis :) So happy to see Chef looking better and better each video.
Thank you for this recipe! I did it today and it was amazing! I have never cooked before and yet could follow. I wonder how unbelievable it must have tasted chef! :)
I used to watched your Chanel long time ago. I just found this video today and was so sad to remember Francis is gone. Thank you for amazing job! You are a great cook
Bts infires Strong power thank you He passed away a little bit ago. If you look at the more recent recipe videos Francis isn’t there and is replaced with a picture and an animation of him
This is totally awesome! I've been looking FOREVER for the Japanese hamburg recipe. Not only does your recipe look great, but I love the presentation and the dog!
This lady and her dog always brighten my day when they put out a new video. Not only is she extremely pretty, but she's damn good at what she does. I'm not sure if she's famous anywhere but youtube, but she truly is a credit to cooks everywhere.
This is the first recipe of yours that I tried making. I am not a great cook, but your explanations were easy to follow and I managed to make the dish. I really liked the taste, thank you! これは私のこのチャネルからの初めて料理でした。料理が上手じゃないけど、分かりやすい説明でハンバーグを出来ました。味がとても好きでした、ありがとうございます!
The hell are you talking about! I just finished editing my synthesis final draft, works cited, an analysis prewrite, chaotic work area and its 3:30 in the morning. i deserve a reward, if not at least a passing grade...which may not be likely... >_>
I made this for my me and my wife. I don't really follow recipes, but I used this recipe as a reference point. Then, I combined it with the technique for Salisbury Steak--the classic American dish. The outcome is delicious. And now I have to microwavable lunches! Thanks!
Chef san, Japan josei no kagami desu. Thank you so much for posting everyday Japanese Gohan and Okazu. I am Japanese from Nagoya and I have just turned 58 years old. I'm your fan. Arigatoune!
cooking with dog , i love you channel , but how can replace the dashi broth if i can´t found the katsuoboshi and the kombo seaweed or the dashi powder ?
Omg I just made these and I have to say, these are the fucking bomb. I can only suggest using slightly less of the breadcrumbs and/or milk, because it made my patties slightly gooeyer than the video... but reduce this JUST a miniscule amount. It might also be the fact that the ground meat I used both had 15% fat.
This was delicious! I just use ground beef instead of the beef and pork mix and it still turned out great! For the gravy I use beef broth instead of water. This recipe is so yummy! I'm sure to make it again!
Yes, you can. Just use beef if that suits your situation. As for mirin, it's alcohol based and so it is haram. Look up for Kikkoman halal mirin and you can use their Japanese sweet sauce in lieu of alcohol based mirin. I know this is a 7 year old comment, but hey it's a great recipe to miss out on :D
i made this today and i must say it was even more delicious than i thought! if you're thinking about omitting the onion sauce, DONT! It really finished off the dish and it tasted soo good.
It was just a joke. The first time I read Cooking with Dog, I assumed the recipe included dog meat. The recipes of Cooking with Dog are very sophisticated.
Of course. I don't think you properly tagged that person, but in case you did, I said what could be in the meat mixture, in case they were still wondering lol
vrederik7 She's japanese, they don't eat dog, that's chinese and vietnamese and even they RARELY do it, it's only in some parts of the countries, usually the bad parts
Glad to hear you tried the recipe and enjoyed it. 🍖😋 Chef visited California a decade ago and enjoyed a variety of dishes! 🌮🥩🌯🍔🦐🥗👩🍳✈️ Thank you for your support! 💕
When she stuck the stick into the meat, I saw pink juice come out, not clear, I don't think that was done, plus that's more like a meat loaf than hamburg steak, years ago, you could of eaten it that way, but today you have to be so careful.
It was just a tip to take with a grain of salt, depending on your situation. They may like to have their meat a little pink. Besides, as another comment has brought forth, while the meat is sitting on the plate it continues to cook as it rests.
wow, the fact that this dish is so simple, and yet so tasty is what I love the most about this recipe. I made this for dinner and I absolutely love it and how easy it is to make and how it takes up such little time to make it. Great work!~ :D
I have that exact salt & pepper grinder. What a bond we have. :) I love this cooking show. I have a okonomiyaki cooking at the moment. She is a great inspiration.
I made this just now for lunch! It was so delicious =D I almost missed the part where you had to boil the potato beforehand. I boiled three red potatoes the size of my fists for about 25 minutes. Thanks cookingwithdog!
I added this to favorites because it's neat to see a Japanese take on a Western favorite. Hamburg steak is essentially a really common dish there and it's beloved worldwide.
One of the easiest cooking with dog recipes to make if you live in places without asian grocery. You can get the ingredients for this from basically any US supermarket. Definitely try to make this sometime, its worth it. Don't just watch like most people and wish you could eat it. Stop being lazy and GO MAKE IT. It's delicious.
I luv her cooking, I can look at other sights but I always return to cooking with dog, I been following her more than decade almost 20 years on youtube
Just made this for supper tonight. Oh. Oh WOW. So yummy. The shredded garlic/garlic paste added right at the end of the onion sauce makes it PERFECT. (I added a dash of Worcestershire sauce and tabasco to mine, tho.)
I've tried this twice - and both times had a great meal. A good version of an American classic, though in 8 years living in Japan I never ate a hamburger steak there.
I was about 13 when I first made this and this recipe is what inspired me to keep cooking even until today, thank you chef and Francis!
aw so cute

It was delicious!
Great idea to sneak in more veggies too. I'll have to try your method next time
Great idea! Thank you!
@@ArigatoTomodachi-k7j I pass on a recipe I found on Cookpad in Japan...
No need to knead by hand! Easy-to-prepare ground turkey hamburger steak 🥩
Ground turkey: 300g
Onion: half cut
Herbs : any kind you like, in quantity
Garlic: 1 clove, minced
Ginger: same amount as garlic, minced
Salt: small quantity
Olive oil (for grilling): as needed
Lettuce (for serving): as needed
1⃣ Chop onion, chop herbs too, and put all other ingredients in a bowl.
For the onion gravy, sake and a pinch of sugar can be used instead of the mirin. If sake is not available, you can just skip the mirin :)
So I made this with my 3 sisters for my mom and dad's wedding anniversary. They walked in, and me and my sisters served them the food we made together. One is 9, and the other one is 7. I will not say my age, but i want to say this:

They loved it because they mostly eat junk food and not used to real food
Made this two times already! Once with beef and the other with ground turkey. It turned out great both times. :)
We recommend using a white wine with low acidity, substituting 1 tbsp of wine + 1.5 tsp sugar for 1 tbsp of mirin :)
This was one pf the first RUclips videos I ever watched. Cooking with Dog has a very special place in my heart. Love you ❤️
Her videos are very informative. There are all basic info and technique for Japanese family food, like texbook. She is an excellent teacher.

This recipe is in my regular meal rotation--it's so good, even better IMO than the classic Salisbury steak.

Thank you for this recipe! I did it today and it was amazing! I have never cooked before and yet could follow. I wonder how unbelievable it must have tasted chef! :)
I made this a few times a few years ago, and today I had a huge craving for it again. So glad this video is still around

Hi Francis, is it okay if I put the beef in the oven instead of frying?
cooking with dog , i love you channel , but how can replace the dashi broth if i can´t found the katsuoboshi and the kombo seaweed or the dashi powder ?
You can always do a light chicken or vegetable broth. Its a pretty good substitute

Answer to PwnsPandas: What kind of meat in the meatballs? Dog meat. Therefore this channel is named: cooking with dog.
Assuming that was sarcastic and left for a year old comment, it's probably mostly beef, but I've seen people use beef and pork mixtures.

its clear means no blood! what do u expect, water to flow out. its just like eating a steak its meat juices! common sense.
+SecretGardenOwl There is not blood anyways, but carol is right. That was not clear, that was still pink.
As the meat rests it will finish cooking on the plate without drying out the meat.
It was just a tip to take with a grain of salt, depending on your situation. They may like to have their meat a little pink. Besides, as another comment has brought forth, while the meat is sitting on the plate it continues to cook as it rests.
japanese food standards may differ from where you live. I am in America and it would probably not hurt me if beef is not totally cooked but ymmv
