When I was in year 5 my best friend showed my friend and I how to do this. We found it so fascinating that we made a ‘business’ out of it and sold it to kids around the school. Eventually everyone in our class learnt how to do it and joined in on the business. I remember how in class we would all just knead and the teacher had to take all our erasers from us
I’m doing this too, except it’s an eraser “slime”. I get payed about $10 a week, each “slime” is .50 for a small batch and $1.00 for a large batch. I get like 10 orders a week in a good week. It works so good because I don’t even have to waste so much time, I usually fidget with the erasers during my boring classes
I like how this tutorial for something that I consider a bit more of a ‘niche’ or ‘speciality’ art tool is still so accessible and doable for novice artists who might not have much more than a couple of erasers and a pencil! Not only that, but I find the ‘alternatives for tape’ bit so endearing, cuz I get tired of tutorials that act like if you don’t have the exact specific tools they have, you won’t get a good result when there are actually plenty of useful alternatives. Great video. I initially went on RUclips in search of a review about the real usefulness of kneaded erasers and if I should buy one. Now I can make one. Better yet, I can use my mini collection of bits of erasers I have gathered from a spring cleanup where I put all the erasers I found together, including some I chose to cleanup by cutting the dirty part with a cutter. So thank you 👍
I used to do this in school and no one else did or knew about it, I discovered it on my own. It was just something to do. I had those expensive mechanical paper mate pencils with the smooth white erasers. That easily worked. I never used the putty to really erase, but just play with in my fingers. I used my shreds from already erasing things as well as just rubbing the eraser really fast to heat it up and add to my putty pile lol. I didn’t think anyone online had ever mentioned it until today! I’ve been doing this to kill time ever since elementary school, I didn’t know more people did too!! It’s perfect for me because I could erase the stickiness from the sticky notes, then I’d have both the eraser AND some perfectly good origami paper. Two in one combo for paying zero attention in class!

Such a clever DIY idea! 🛠✏ I never realized how easy it is to make a kneaded eraser at home. Your instructions are clear and straightforward-definitely going to try this out. Thanks for sharing this useful and creative tutorial! 👍😊

Omg I didn't know it's this easy! Tysm for sharing this, it's turning out great! I found that the most effective way of softening it is simply kneading them continuously between your fingers (my thumb hurts rn lol but it's worth it)

@LILAH JACOBS your comment is brilliant🤣🤣👏

Now this is an actual hack that people can actually do at home

xXvmprXx it’s really good for artists :D
Two types of people in the comments:
- those that did this back in elementary
- shocked pikachu faces cuz they never did this and regret it
I don't see why should it be concerning at all, it's just a DIY

I’ve been doing this to kill time ever since elementary school, I didn’t know more people did too!! It’s perfect for me because I could erase the stickiness from the sticky notes, then I’d have both the eraser AND some perfectly good origami paper. Two in one combo for paying zero attention in class!
