There were always guys willing to do laundry or firewatch for a little cash too
This is also a very valid point 👌🏻
Yeah, my recruiter told me he would cash out taking shifts or doing laundry! Lol
Do you just ask? How do you make extra money in basic?
NPC #7231986 fireguard
All Time Adventures sell candy to the fatties and dip to everyone else.
I thought about joining the army. I'm doing research, I'm starting to exercise, I'm eating healthy, I'm motivated.
One problem
I don't know how to do laundry
Sort light from dark if anything's new. Throw the clothes in with an uneaten tide pod. Set for cold (warm if lights, but that's not that important). Turn the washer on and wait for it to stop. Take everything out, throw it in the dryer or hang it up. Ta da, clean clothes.
I don’t know how to cook lol I think I got it worse!
@@arianebolt1575 I died when you said “uneaten tide pod” LMAO
literally my biggest fear, making my bed and doing laundry
Do they teach you how?
I swear you think of everything. I was literally wondering about this.
honestly

Not weird at all. It's a legit question, just initial everything because people will steal your laundry lol
This confused me because almost all my drill sergeants in Fort Jackson said not to initial your stuff.
@@lordchancho2044 I'm shipping to Fort Jacksin in June. What did you end up doing?
@@justinsk2241 I went to jackson and I put my name on all my clothing if not it will get stolen

When I was in basic a few years back the DRILL sgts told us if we were on lifeguard and we didn't have our clothes in the laundry "we were wrong".
better improve your run time so you can sprint to one of those washers fast

Don't do this basic training at fort silk the barracks doors had an alarm on them if they are opened everyone in the barracks got smoked.
On the van to Jackson, time to meet the nicest drill sergeants out there...
LOL Good luck!!
Same in the van as well lets hope its good 😭

Ft. Benning, I graduated in November. We had 3 sets of pts and 4 sets of OCPs. Didn’t get to do laundry for the first 2 weeks. But don’t worry. If your platoon starts to smell too bad your DS will give you time. During this time, stretch each set of OCPs as far as possible. I washed my PTs in the sink at night during this time. Set up a rotation where you have a cleanish pair for tomorrow, a pair drying because it’ll take two days, and then the pair you washed today. During the bulk of your training after you’ve “settled in”, the best way to do this is to become friends with two bunk mates next to you so that you can trust them. During the middle of the week, me and my bunk mate would put all four of our clothes in the washer on firewatch/CQ. And then when I shift was coming to an end we’d switch them to the dryer. Then when your “neighbors” get done with their fire guard/CQ, have them bring all your clothes up. Do that on a Wednesday and then wash and dry your own clothes on Sundays. For Protestants, your service will usually be about an hour after breakfast. Clean your locker out during that time and when you get back do your laundry. Let it dry during lunch so you know nobody will steal. And then after lunch you have the rest of the day to “clean”. Which we all know means take a nap in your locker and write letters.
I ship out tomorrow, actually watching your video at the hotel, but thank you for all the good advice brother👏I'll be watching you soon
I go to Leonard Wood in June, and I can confirm that this was one of my top five questions about BCT. I think you've helped me prepare for it more than anyone I know.
This was a random question/thought I had and I can't tell you how thankful I am that you literally have a library of videos for new recruits!
Back in 2010 when I went through BCT our platoon was fortunate/smart enough to work out a pretty simple schedule that revolved around our fireguard duty.
The Army did my Laundry almost the entire time I was in service. They charged like $6 a week or so right out my check.
If i remember right when i went in they came and collected your laundry bag and washed all your stuff while still in the bag. Hell i dont remember it was 1982
When I was at Fort Sill. The drill sergeants told us that we can also do laundry on Sundays as well while everyone else is either at church or cleaning the bay
When I went to basic training at Ft Jackson in 1989, laundry was collected on either Tuesday or Wednesday in the morning and returned in the evening.
Most helpful videos on RUclips, no doubt
:) Thanks!
You know, I literally never thought about this, but I’m really glad you made this. It’s for sure something to think about
Write your name on EVERY SINGLE THING YOU OWN
Do they give you pens or something to write with.

Headed to basic on Monday, excited/nervous about going. Ft benning here I come
Good luck!!
I just graduated basic at Ft Benning on the 6th and start AIT when we get back
@@juice9514 what's FT benning like?

You have gone through everything I could think about I feel a lot more comfortable about enlisting thanks for everything
I am so happy you made this. Thank you
You're welcome!
When I was at Ft. Leonard Wood back in '01, what we did is we actually had scheduled dry-cleaning days for our BDU's (we still used those then) and the two laundry bags were BOTH used for that purpose... We had a list of items that we were required to put in the bag and check off when it was required to be filled and then we took them out, as a formation, to place them for loading onto a truck... Then, we had a pick-up day where, again, AS A FORMATION, we went down to supply to retrieve our finished dry-cleaning, rinse, repeat...
The ACTUAL laundry that we washed in barracks was minimal... Mainly PT outfits and underclothes... For that, we had small laundry facilities on all three floors for that purpose... The ones on the 2nd and 3rd floors were right next to the latrines while the 1st floor had somewhat larger laundry rooms off to the side... :)
Exactly! The smart soldier signs up for the Quartermaster Laundry and does not have to worry about doing their laundry!
Christopher Althouse I was at Ft Leonard wood in 02, I was just about to mention what you said about laundry service.
I had that too at fort Leonard wood back in 1993. Best thing
Does that cost money?
I ship out to Fort Leonard Wood November 13, 2019. I wonder if all that has changed since the uniforms have changed over the years.
We never had washers or driers so we just washed everything in sinks or in the shower room, usually bringing all the stuff that needs to be washed in a bag with a bottle of detergent and just started scrubbing by hand or by foot in the showers. Worked fine for me.
Thank you man! you have helped me a lot trying to learn everything before I join.
Here's a question, how do you prepare to go to sleep, what do you wear,do they issue sleepwear?
Wow things have changed. We had a knit bag we put all our stuff in daily and like 2 dudes had the laundry detail. Uniforms stayed smelling like sweat and balls. I wished we could just do our own. This is a good change.
Wow...35 years since I went to Basic Training at Fort Benning and they still have the laundry bag attached to the end of the bunk. Glad to see traditions still exist...lol. I did my laundry on Sundays, and since the DIs were not present, I would wash my uniforms, and lay them out on the bleachers and sat reading my Soldier's Manual while it air dried. Of course, I went during the summer, at Harmony Church, so it dried, fast. We also did PT in BDU trousers and t-shirts, so there was no separate PT uniforms to worry about. A bonus was that my BDUs were crisp looking from the air drying.
I did basic back in 1990. We were in the old WW2 barracks. One washer. One dryer. Each squad was assigned a day for laundry and unassigned days were first come first serve. In addition to that we had quartermaster service. Every Wednesday they would pick up our laundry and return in Friday. I think it cost us $3 for that. Worth it.
In navy boot camp we had a detail assigned to do everyone's laundry and we had our own machines in the barracks room. They would pass the laundry out usually at the end of the day.
So I’ve been pretty hyped for basic training. Last night I had a dream I finally went and Matt Ward was my my drill sergeant 😂💀
Been watching too many of these videos.
Yeah, sometimes watching videos and many other things and people you might see or encounter during the day, or whatever situation you are going through, can trigger into the nighttime hours, the time you rest your eyes. You may have dreams about what you saw in the video you watched or who you saw earlier in the daylight hours. Sometimes the dream can be pleasant or strange in the most oddly vivid way imaginable during REM sleep. And sometimes the dream can be a nightmare disturbing or frightening enough to jolt you awake. In your situation, you were newly enlisted into the military and anticipating the date you leave for basic training and what will happen once you arrive and watching Matt Ward videos while you wait for your leave date to arrive. Were you watching Matt Ward videos at night lately just before falling asleep? Sometimes that could cause you to have a dream about him as well if you have not watched the videos during the day already.
Could you make a video on investing? I know you touched on real estate, but can you talk about a less hands on investing. I'm planning to go full time in the army, but don't want to only rely on the programs they have set up. I prefer maxing out as much money as I can, so when I get out I don't have to worry about looking for a new job. Could you make a video on a long term investing strategy and a short quick investing strategy?
Honestly this is all helpful and not weired questions at all I actually searched this I ship out to fort Jackson in 2 weeks for basic wish me luck and thanks for these tip videos
Im glad you make this videos.
In my day at Navy bootcamp (circa 1979) it was DIY. Granted it was in Orlando, FL during the height of summer (everyday at basic was a Red Flag day..). In a steaming washbasins, using a hand scrub brush with about 50 other fellows doing the same thing. My socks never dried (started growing green mold.. seriously). Would hang your clothes on a clothesline on top of the barracks and a thunderstorm would come along and soak them again. Oh the joy.. :P
In basic we didn’t have a laundry room per se just a bank of washer and dryers in the latrine. Basic training had an “optional” laundry service you could sign up for. Other wise on Sunday our Drill Sargents would take between 1-3 people per squad and go to the base laundry and we would do all our squads laundry in one big laundry party. Later in basic this became a privilege to do your squads laundry because the Drill Sgt tended to be more relaxed
Damn that's weird to think about, I'm in the Air Force and went through BMT almost 5 years ago and was in the newer barracks (we call them dorms but from what I've seen they are set up nearly identically to the barracks from every other branch) but we had 3 washers and 3 dryers in our dorm, the little laundry area also had two of those big ass baskets you see at professional laundry places, we did have the laundry bags tied to the end of our beds but we were required to empty them into the big basket before they got over filled. Everyone in the flight was assigned a detail they were responsible for when it came to keeping the dorm clean and one of the details was laundry so while we would be cleaning the latrine or cleaning the floors a couple guys were doing laundry and every few days all the clean laundry would be given out and we would fold it. Everything except our socks had to be marked in a specific way it was the first letter of your last name followed by the last four digits of your social security number.
Lol thank you for this video been wondering how they wash cloths at basic lol i ship out jan 16 I cannot wait
As an old time Soldier from the 80's i feel for the most part modern day basic is much more civilized then back then BUT having to do your own laundry is a waste of time i feel. Back then we would have an outside laundry service that would do it for us. We would fill out a laundry list and place it in our laundry bag once a week. If my memory is correct it was deducted out of our pay automatically. We never had PT uniforms in basic just BDU pants and brown t-shirts and boots. Not until permanent party( after training duty unit) were we issued ugly yellow shirts/sweatpants and jacket and yellow shorts. Not sure if the color was an Artillery unit thing but it was ugly as hell.
Lol at talking about how ugly the new PT uniforms were back in your era.
I'm a hypnosis expert and I was able to get my drill Sgt. to do all my laundry for me and fold them too.
All the information is amazing thank you
Thanks bro appreciate the tip
Things have really changed. I had basic at Ft Benning Ga 1971. They sent your laundry out. It was back the next day. Plus you didnt have PT clothes, you did it in your fatigues & boots.
Going to Sacramento tomorrow for test excited about that.
What's the lowdown on utilizing the latrines??
This dude is good I thinking joining the Air Force but his content is helpful for all branches
Headed to Fort Jackson tomorrow
You do your own laundry? My dad was in navy 86 to 06 and the navy did his laundry during boot camp. During his A school he had to do his own.
When I was in basic whoever was on lifeguard dis everyone's laundry and buffed the floors. If for some reason you didnt get yours done by fireguard, you had a chance on Sunday.
I was just now thinking about this! Like how they do laundry if we can only take a limited amount if clothes😂😂
The washers and dryers where in the same building as I stayed at Ft Knox as matter of fact it was in the bathroom
When you tell the fire guard to wake you up do you need to wake up a battle buddy as well?
Can you get up and walk around at night? Like what if you're doing laundry or taking a dump and a drill instructor sees you, do you get in trouble?
Now that we know about laundry time, what about chow time? ;)
Cool thanks
Almost 20k sub hype 😜😜😜
AYYYY I'm so close :)
Can you make a video on military careers and schools? I don't really understand how it works. Like you had your contract for the Bravo thing and I'm not sure how it all works?
Back in the Seventies when I was in the Old Starch Fatigues and Black Shined Boots Army, we had the us the Quartermaster Laundry Service and WERE NOT ALLOWED TO WASH OUR UNIFORMS. IT WAS MANDITORY AND $6.00 WAS DEDUCTED FROM OUR PAY FOR THE SERVICE.
Every Monday we turned in our Dirty Laundry to the Company Supply Room along with our Bed Sheets. At the end of the day we went to the Supply Room to pick up our clean Bed Sheets. On Wednesday we went to the Supply Room to pick up our Clean Laundry. Our Fatigues were Starched and hanged up on hangers. Our underwear, Wash Cloth, Bath Towel, and socks were inside our OD Green Laundry Bag. We returned to the Barracks to put our Clean Laundry Away and then to Evening Chow.
At my First Duty Station after AIT is when I did my own Laundry. Some Soldiers used Quartermaster laundry to clean their Fatigues because they had to be starched. The Army had the Perm Press Fatigues which were not Starched. The majority of Soldiers damped the Starchies and bought the perm Press Fatigues. I kept my Starchies along with the Perm Press Fatigues which I wore daily. The Starchies where for Guard Duty so I would make Number Uno and not have to stand Post. I had Super Spit Shined Boots which I kept inside a clear plastic bag set aside for Guard Duty and Inspections.
The Army has changed in that area. Back in the sixties there was laundry service.
HOW DID U KNOW I WAS WONDERING THIS
Thanks bro for vid
Lol cool you made a vid, I specifically searched for that topic on yt
I remember some kind of laundry service doing it for us at fort Leonard wood when I went. Not sure if they still do it
I leave for Fort Leonard Wood basic training November 13. I am unsure of how the guidelines will be like on using the laundry facilities there and how much time the drill sergeants will give for recruits to do laundry when the time comes that we need to wash all our uniforms.
Do you have to bring detergent ?
Do you get it from the PX ?
Do they supply it or do you pay ?
i'm so in love with the shirt-do you sell those in your store? 'must have!!
I love your videos can you make a video on how to max sit ups on the apft
I've got a video where I talk about the proper situp form and then at the end of the video I have tips
Thanks
Our company had alarms on the doors. We could not leave our bay once we were in it for the night. We could ONLY do it during free time.
Can you do a video on the difference between 19d and 11x
Do u need quarters/cash for the machines??
Does the battle buddy system have to be in play as well during laundry?
In your opinion are there more people at BCT in summer or Winter?
Why The would say one ask that question. It will or should be expain in bacis training.
how does hydration work during basic?
Will you please do a video on how to be a military spouse because my spouse is in the military thank you
Can you wear a brace at bct?
Ok so I'm shipping out to basic june 21st for infantry at fort Benning when I inevitably to firewatch can I do my own laundry then?
Do you bring your own detergent?
Does the PT uniform need 2 b washed daily?
At any point is there clothes that need to be ironed? If so, what and how often?
If you have cash during basic where do you store it?
Where do you get that shirt?
Great vid
Thanks!
Wait. U can wake up in the middle of the night? I thought lights out neant lights out and anyone caught not sleeping gets in trouble.
You should do a video of what happened if you get in a fight at basic training
Usely the washing machine and dryer were broken so you hand washed and then hung them up to dry
Man can't wait till 100k subs
theundeadsoul97 ' yeah maybe then he will do a face reveal
Yeah, that sounds like a good thing to do. lol
Can you not just go to the PX and purchase extra PT hear that way you don’t have to do laundry every other day? Or is that not an option?
While on the subject of laundry, is their an opportunity to purchase additional sets of P.T. Uniforms and or OCPs before or at Basic Training?
AT basic training YES to the PT uniform. No, to the OCPs. But that's still iffy. You may get DS that just say no.
I was wondering this lol
Hey Matt i have a question im 21 years old and thinking about joining the army. i heard that i woulda been better of joing at 18 do you have any advice is it better if i just not try and i also have a ged would that also be a problem thanks and love your vids bro. Any advice would help.
Yeah 21 is still young, I joined at 21 and no a GED won't be a problem :)
I'm screwed.
Me too 😂 asf!
I have a question... is it worth packing the stuff on the list or will they make you buy the stuff in the PX either way?
Some people say to only pack a change of clothes, but I don’t want to be that guy that isn’t prepared.
Ethan C Bring the minimum possible. Literally everything but the clothes on your back is contraband. They'll issue a little day one then take you to the exchange a bit later.
What about if you are close with some ppl 1 or 2 why not put your PT clothes all in one or so to where you don’t all have to go and wash just one person and take turns doing that throughout the week
Can you take showers in your PT uniform. Just saying it can get clean that way!
Do they have bell men at basic training???
Can you make a video on the hazing (if any) that went on in the Army?
There isn't any "hazing" that happens 👍
Matt Ward I heard it’s a different story in the Marines
Army BCT has so much free time and liberty, at Air Force BMT we had our laundry bags but we could only put socks and underwear in it we had these mesh bags one was for green socks and the other was for white socks and underwear that were marked with our laundry marks when it got full you tossed it in a big laundry hamper along with anything that didn't go in them one for whites the other for everything else, this one dude decided to buy these cheap green socks at the mini BX where we were supposed to buy shampoo at because he lost some of his issued socks, turns out one of these shitty green socks when thrown in with whites in the wash would turn it all piss yellow so my entire flights underwear got stained yellow, when the TIs found out they made us all buy new underwear.
