Thank you for making videos on literally every aspect of BMT! You answer so many random questions I’ve had and you even cover topics that I didn’t wonder about but learned about anyway. Thank you for all the info, it’s been really helpful! I ship out June 12th.
Amanda Kendl thank you so much I’m glad I can help as much as I can! Good luck let me know how everything goes and have some fun before you leave!
Jonathan Sullivan will do!
Ty. I'm shipping today and am nervous about getting enough sleep.
Blankets are Fire retardant wool and "Dust Cover" is to prevent Air Born dust/bugs/germs from landing on your pillow where you place your face, to prevent illness!. Although the blankets may shed lint, they ate NOT purpose built to cause trainees to have something to clean up everyday! But good imagination there!
It feels like its on purpose! LOL, thanks for that info though, appreicate it.
Hey, young Airman, thanks a bunch! I'm a 58-year old Air Force vet and my 21-year old daughter just shipped out on the 31st of July (2018) and should be finishing up on "Zero Week" as you call it nowadays. I was at Lackland in August -September, 1979 in what we called the old 3723rd BMTS, FLT 220. Until we got our "pickle suits" ( OG-107 fatigues), we were called "rainbows". The usual saying was " RAINBOW, RAINBOW-DON'T BE BLUE..OUR RECRUITER SCREWED US TOO!"
Ahhh, the memories. But anyway,I follow your videos with a little more insight to what my daughter is going through right now. But I can still relate.
Thats awesome! Thank you for watching, those OG-107 fatigues dont look bad!
Also good luck to your daughter!
Jonathan Sullivan ...They smelled like so much tent canvass stored in an old musty basement in a Funk and Wagnalls store. And thanks. She's in the 322 TRS.
Jonathan Sullivan Watch the movie "Stripes". Army pretty much wore what we wore. And that T-39 Sabreliner at the end, I refueled that bird when it landed at Offutt AFB in the early 80's!
Ronald Robertson oh thats awesome I was in the 322 to dorm A10 I believe!
Hey man I’m stationed at Scott, had no clue you were here too!
Nice! Where do you work?
Jonathan Sullivan I’m at the tower
who else remembers some kids crying on the first night
lomf We had a guy on our first night complained that his appendix burst and was on the floor crying our TI Sst Fuerte asked him “ How do you know it’s your appendix?” He said it happened to him before. Our TI said you can’t have an appendix grow back. So they took him to the emergency room there on Lackland and in the morning our TI came in and said” I’ll be damned who knew your appendix can grow back.” I wonder what ever happened to that guy?
@@cheesegyoza hahahaha
"Hey guy's this is Jonathan"
?????
We want Sk8gnarley my dude bring him back
Thank you so much!!
Thank you I appreciate the comments!
When did you get to write your first letter to send home?
Don't forget that some tech schools are different. For us, we had school at 0700 and we would do PT right after school around 4
Oh yeah yeah for sure
Sleep is your best friend.
What do you do on the weekends in bmt? Is it the same as the rest of the week? Deets pls.
During the winter do they make you wear the short PT gear or are you able to wear the longer PT gears? Also, during beast weak are the tents like on base? Lastly, what is PT like at tech school? ( Is it still the mile and a half run and do you have to take more PT Test?)
Hey, was it cold cause it be difficult for me to fall asleep when the place is hot
might sound like a weird question but if you have to use the head during PT can you do that or do you have to hold it until after.
Quinn Rice you can use the bathroom whenever you want/need too, not a weird question haha thats super logical
in the morning u pee before u fall out for P T.
Yo thanks for vid! Good to know! Quick question: I know tech school was awhile ago for you, but any chance you know and/or know of someone who has the computer systems programming job? Did yall train together at keesler? Any detailed info not found via Google search would be helpful. Thanks man
Ship date is May 29, got the comp sci program job, 3DOX4
We have programmers that work in my building but I don't know any of them. We also didn't train with them at tech school because we have completely different jobs. The only thing I know about the ones where I work is that they test and develop some applications but thats all I really know, they also have a pretty long tech school. Thanks for the comment sorry I couldn't help more!
Ugh I am gonna have a hard time at beast week cuz of bugs I have a phobia of bugs and once you mentioned scorpions I knew imma have a hard time at beast week.
BTW can you make a video about weekends at BMT and what you do on weekends because I know you can go to church on Sundays
I get freaked out with bugs and stuff too lol. I will definitely make a video about weekends at BMT. Thank you!
Nayeli cruz I as well have a horrible bug phobia as well so frustrating but the airforce I want to do so bad lol
Very helpful video
Do you get to pick your own bed , or if you get bunk beds do you get to pick whose on top and whose on bottom or do you just go where your told
corbinballerstatus at first you pick a random bed before you get yelled at, and then later the assign beds, top and bottom are different numbers so different assignments
Is there an option to wake up earlier and prepare for the day? Currently I have an 8:50 pm to 4:40 am sleep schedule. Just wondering, wouldn't mind sleeping the extra 1 hr and 5 minutes if I don't have a choice(You mentioned sleep at 9 pm, wake at 5:45 am). Also is there an option to use an electric trimmer instead of shaving cream and a razor?
Yeah it depends on the mti, our flight started having people wake up early on there own to get ahead of the game but they got caught and in huge trouble so id be careful, I wouldn't ask your mti because the reason they have lights out and lights on is because they need you to be all rested up, so it more of a procedural thing, but if you get caught and get in trouble then you know lol.
Thanks man!
dont get a rack next to the head. six guys had to clean the toilet and shower after we moved in and they were near the head. i remember saying to myself that this was a big mistake as i fell asleep. D I woke us up at 6 :15 am.
What's the instrumental?
We had a guy who had night terrors and he would scream in the middle of the night waking most of us up. I was dorm guard checking his locker the first time he screamed. He scared me so badly I dropped and broke my flashlight.
You should do one about recycling
Can I have multiple pillows? Its difficult to sleep on my back? (granted I'll be stupid tired)
No everyone gets 1 pillow and the blankets that you use to make your bed, my pillow was like super thin, other people had better ones, I usually used part if a blanket to support my head
Do they bother you while you are sleeping? Like scare you or anything?
No they take sleep pretty serious, lights out is a strict time. They need you to have all that energy lol
Jonathan Sullivan thank you sir
Yeah it's not like the army 😆
Marine D.I’s invade the peaceful dreams of marine recruits in their sleep.
Another suggestion: I’ve been struggling to find a job that uses my mind and body to the best of their abilities while still being able to transfer over to civilian life once I’m out. I’ve asked my recruiter and I’m still doing research but it’s all hazy. Could you please create a job list for AF jobs that could transfer into civilian world? Example: Security Forces= cop or a higher up FBI agent with degrees
I can't really make a list like that because every job is so different and there are so many of them yet I have only done my job and trained for just mine you know. Honestly you really wont know what the job will be like until after tech school when you get to your base and actually do it. The Air Force also gives us about $4,000 a year that is used for any sort of school or training. So as long as whatever you want to do fits in that budget they will pay for it (this is different from the GI Bill). Lets say I hated my job and wanted to go take some classes for something not even related to my job or I wanted to go get a certification they pay for it. As for my career field, more generally IT, it is such a wide spectrum like there is no way you can pin point each job its a wild world haha.
Jonathan Sullivan Completely understand! However, would you be able to supply information for what a job could turn into for civilian life? For example: you’re apart of computer/ intel. What could your job be as a civilian? Would you work for Dell or the government? Things of that nature
When it comes to the particular job that Sully and are both in(Cyber Sys Ops - 3d0x2) they really set you up for a good career outside of the Air Force. After BMT there's Tech School, and to pass the tech school for our AFSC we need to pass a test for a certification called 'Security+'. This cert is used in the civilian world as well as military, so we could easily take this to an employer outside of the Air Force and get a quality job with a good salary. Also, a lot of people do contract work as a civilian for the government doing the exact same thing they were doing in uniform but get paid more, and others will separate from the government completely. Just depends what you're looking for personally.
There are plenty of jobs in the Air Force that would transition into the civilian world quite nicely, but most importantly I recommend doing something you think you'd enjoy. You're going to be stuck doing that job for 4-6 years so at least be interested in what you do. If anything you can go to school while in service and transition to that new field outside of the Air Force.
Couldn't have said it better than alk0lights
@alk0lights Awesome advice. I am trying to join for Security Forces but want to go to school for IT/Cyber or Networking and think the two lend well to each other.
Can you get up and use the restroom at anytime from 21:00 - 05:45 during sleep hours? Are restroom breaks scheduled during 8 weeks of BMT? Thanks.
You can use the bathroom anytime you want to at bmt
I didn't take a dump until two weeks into basic training. I was too busy and didn't even think about it. Finally after two weeks I pinched an enormous monster loaf. It was so long I could have decorated a birthday cake with it. It wouldn't flush so I just left it there for the latrine queens to deal with it.
Hey man so I leave for basic on June 12th. I was assigned cyber systems operations. So I have a question concerning security +. I wanna study ahead for it, and I’m looking at professor messer on RUclips. My question is should I be watching his SYO-401 or SYO-501 series? Thanks
I would start studying 501, based off what I have heard from new airman coming in, is that they are going to start testing the 501 test soon so you will most likely be taking that. Its good to get a head start but don't stress yourself out to much because you have a long journey ahead of you and you will have plenty of time to study have some fun before you leave! Awesome on getting 3d0x2 hopefully thats what you wanted, I love this job for whats its worth. Maybe ill see you around, good luck!
Jonathan Sullivan Thanks for the advise. I’m excited for this new life and my job. Keep up the vids👍
A Howell I’m leaving June 12 for the same job as well, can’t wait. It was my number one pick and I’ve heard great things about this being one of the better AFSCs the Air Force offers. See you in Texas!
I ship out June 12th, too!
James Mathis let’s go man! Congrats that’s awesome. We should be In tech school together as well! See you on the other side!
I leave 25 September. Is that considered winter or is it still summer?
Tanner I cant remember the exact dates but that might be somewhere in between like me where we started winter and switched to summer
Same here I leave the 25th
Tanner yooo same
good luck!
Are you allow to used the restroom whenever you need to ? Like when you are in formation? Or when your doing anything serious !
Just made a video about it! Go check it out, short answer is yes whenever you want.
Thanks brother
What if u wake around 3 can u get ready when people are sleeping
You can’t get ready early, you can try but when people in my flight did it they got caught and in trouble. You are supposed to stay in bed from lights out to lights on. Mti’s do random check ins throughout the night and your mti usually is around before you wake up.
Ok thank u because when go to sleep early I usually wake up early that why ask
Do people sleep on the top bunks in Alcatraz?
I had a top bunk and I stayed in I guess what they call Alcatraz these days I joined in 03 bmt was much different back then.
Yes they do
Bruh Sully I didn't sleep a at all the first night! That first day sucked ass 😂
First day was the most cozy! LOL
Where do you shit during BEAST week?
They have bathrooms at BEAST lol, they are separate buildings outside of the zones
Small difference from my Feb 55 Wooden Barracks
Don’t you guys have fireguard and CQ at night ?
Gorkhali Pride no fire monitors basically take out trash and get supplies for utility crew during details. Other than that they have EC 24/7 except during classes for the most part mostly at night and in the morning. Im assuming you are talking about bmt since this is a bmt Video but there is cq at tech school
Jonathan Sullivan thanks for the reply , my experience is with the Army basic training where fire guard and cq was every night for everyone but different hours. If you did fire guard at 9 pm most probable you did it at 10 next day and 11 next and so on until your fireguard rotation is at wake up time , so you never got a full night sleep. You got woken up for night fire guard or Cq even battalion hq cq at different times every night. Some one is always awake at the bay . Do you guys have something similar?
Yeah so we have this thing called EC (Entry Controller) and basically they monitor the dorms like who comes in who leaves and they make sure you always leave with someone else type thing. Theres a table top that comes off the wall with like a white board to monitor who is out at the time and for what and theres certain procedures if somebody wants to come back in like confirming cacs and shit like that. They are 2 hour shifts and they dont have anyone do it during class time so nobody has to repeat a class. You have to carry your mock m16 and your flashlight with you too, and they are basically fire monitors so if theres a drill or something they have to evacuate and follow procedures for that to obviously.
Jonathan Sullivan We used to call 'em "dorm guards". They'd call up from the CQ downstairs "DORMGUARD!" on the bitch-box:
"Sir, dormguard, dorm A-9, may I help you!?"
One time, the dormguard got bored and he called out "Captain Kirk to Enterprise!"
He didn't know the speaker was ON...
"WELL, BEAM YOUR ASS, DOWN HERE, CAPTAIN KIRK AND DON'T FORGET YOUR 341!" ( discrepancy form that you were required to keep on you at all times)
Never did recall what happened to him after that.
Ronald Robertson he probably disappeared and you never saw him again haha
What happens if you snore or talk in your sleep?
You're wingmen will laugh about you talking in your sleep, but won't be happy with your snoring. I was actually moved next to someone who woke some of us up by doing nothing except snoring, and it was pretty loud. Not their fault, but man, it can be frustrating.
Yeah i dont really snore but sometimes i talk on my sleep for a little bit so i was just kind of scared, lol, thank you thoo
@@cynthiahernandez3106 We had a couple people talk in their sleep as well. It can be kind of funny. One of the things we remembered the most was "The Chaplain's not here 'cause of COVID."
@@kevinhill3225 oh no😭😂
What about the snoring ? Or if you yourself snore?? Lol
No worries lol, they will adapt. We had some people who snored.
Is anybody leaving September 17th/18th?
me!
@@aaronatkins12 ayyy! Do you have a discord?
What??
They sleep in their clothes???
Oh, it's about saving
time, or something.
Well then, guess it's a good system then, good video.
