This is kinda how I passed my final PT test in BMT back in 2008. My friend at the time told me he wasn't going to allow me to fail and he told me to run with him and match his speed the entire time. That man helped me obtain an 11:45 run time which I was never, ever able to pull off again during my tenure as an Airman lol. I'm forever grateful to him.
I failed a pt test last year and came back with a 90.7 score. This year i was petrified of testing because i moved into a very hot location. Max sit ups, 45 pushups, 14:50run time later... 90.7 same score as the year before. Felt good to redeem myself 😊
When I did pt tests, I found it helpful to break up the push-ups and sit-ups into increments of 15. I would figure out how many increments I would need to max, and then just kept track of how many times I counted to 15.
I agree with some of the comments. In order to get a better run time is strength training girl. Work on the legs! Let the legs carry you so you don't get fatigued as fast. Upper body & lower body. At least 3 days a week who know you might end up liking it an ho more than 3 days. My run sucked so bad, an I deadicated my time to Strength training and a lot more improved than just my PT scores. So take it from a fellow airforce sister! It will help.

I want to join the Air Force but I still have a few years until I can. I was looking up these videos so I can start training for it. I basically want it to be as easy as it can be😂
You can always prepare physically and make that aspect a bit easier but mentally, that's a bit tougher to train for...as far as how they mentally reshape you from a civilian into a US Airman. It's one of those things you just have to adapt to on the spot. You can do it though, countless women/men through the years have done it and as brutal/scary as it may seem in boot camp, one thing you really learn is that you're capable of more than you ever realized. So never give up.
I’m so happy I found your channel! I swore into the Air Force and wanted to do intelligence...a rare job opening opened up but my ship date is in 25 days. I’m of similar stature and physical fitness as you so this video really helps. Also, i was told I’d have to cut my hair before BMT but my hair is as long as yours 😅
She stayed at a consistent pace woth her run. Ive witnessed people go super fast the first 3 or 4 laps and then be mad slow for the last 2 and the time just racks up. She did well... im impressed! =)
The AF PT test is generally not hard. It’s harder than the Army test but as far as difficulty it is very easy. I am 17 and a AFROTC scholarship recipient and I had to take this test twice. First time I failed because I was not prepared for the sit ups, but after literally 8 days of PT I was able to pass with a 98. Her advice is good. If you really want to excel you need to run 1.5 mi at least 3 times a week as if it’s the real test and really push yourself, the rest of the time you can walk or jog or bike. Do 20 push-ups and sit-ups when you wake up and before you go to sleep, and every other day or everyday if you want you can push to your max in a mock 1 minute test... also drink lots of water and Gatorade before testing it makes a difference. You can also put liniment on your chest and joints.

My ship date is Aug 28th and my sit ups and running 🏃🏾♀️ are still not good.....I run the mile in a half in 16:25. Sit-ups: 17 My push-ups are fine: 30.......but I HATE running......I’m trying to train myself to run 15 min straight without walking....it’s a struggle 😩. But thank you for this....I’m in a training flight right now for the AF Reserves. And we mock test at every drill. But next month is my last one before I ship, and to top it off....I’m overweight for my height. So my ship date could get pushed back. 🙁
Instead of trying to run a set amount of time without stopping try running a certain distance without stopping. You can go slower than your time on your mile and a half but run the whole way and that will still help you improve. I started off not being able to do a mile and a half without stopping but after a month I was able to do it. My score went from 16 minutes to 14 minutes instantly. In my opinion my score still sucks but I know I am improving
I’m 16 and I am seriously considering the Air Force but I still need a little encouragement and trying to figure out if it is worth it. But I just practiced the sit ups and push up part and maxed out with a lot of struggling.!!
I joined the Army after I graduated in 2016. I ended up having to be discharged cs I had a bad hip fracture. Thank you so much for your videos! I’m planning to join after I get my college degree and if I know the minimum to pass I know I can get 90’s on my pt test❤️ just gotta get comfortable with running again!
Did AFROTC a couple years back. We did the PT test twice a semester if I recall correctly. I'd get around a 95 every time and I was pretty average physically. The hardest part is definitely the running. It took about 9 minutes to run the 1.5 mile. We had one guy in our wing who could run the 1.5 literally in 7 minutes. He was pretty much able to sprint the whole thing, I have no idea how he did that. The Air Force had it pretty easy at least compared the Marine guys, they have to run 3 miles. On top of that, they frequently did ruck marches around campus super early in the morning way before we even started our PT, and we did PT at 6:00am 3 times a week. I love the Air Force tho. Although I was impressed with how much rougher and tougher the Marine and Army cadets seemed I really didn't care. I was so proud to be an Airman. I only lasted one semester, I got dropped from the program because I have tattoos on my fingers and neck...😞
Very well done, Elora. Things have changed greatly since my time in the AF (1977-89). You should be proud that you have helped many to understand the PT test as it existed 4 years ago. Tango-6 out.
Back in my day, after reporting to my permanent duty station, I had to cover a 1.5 mile distance in less than 18 minutes once a year. That was too easy. You could almost walk it and still pass. I set a personal goal of doing the 1.5 miles in less than 10 minutes. It took me several months of trying, but I was able to do it. I had to experiment with different strategies. Do I run fast at the beginning or save my energy for a sprint at the end. That was 40 years ago. I know my ticker would not be willing to do that today.
Thank you so much for making this!! I just enlisted in the guard about a month ago and I’m in student flight right now. I had my first drill this month and I did sooooooo bad during the run😩😩.
It's so ridiculous how easy it is to pass a PT test in the Air Force compared to other branches lol, it's kind of embarrassing really...especially because of people like me who barely do anything and still get almost 100
Elora Jean yea I mean it’s not your guys fault for the standards and you can tell which branches are supposed to be the more active of them all. Like honestly I can bike my PRT and I do but that’s really a thing you can only do in the fleet. We’re more focused on situational training like medical training and firefighting and other things than physical standards.
LOL I don't miss this at all. Good to be out, but fun to watch the struggle. Back in 2003-05 we just sat on a bike, I started the machine, rode a certain amount, and then did push-ups and situps, it was easiest PT test ever lol.
you're awesome. ♡ thank you so much for this! I'm enlisting into active air force from army reserves. It's helpful to see the differences! Much appreciated.
8:17 I believe if you do that and as long as you make sure you don't raise anything other than your back you should be fine. I used the upward dog to rest though.
I can pass everything except the mile rn, and my recruiter told me to also lose 30 lbs. Im 6'1 232. Im 31 now waited entirely too long for this committment, but now its here I full heartedly am ready to be an airman.
That’s why I’m starting now at 16 because I can do.. 0 push ups. My arms are sore from my last arm workout so that’s good. I jogged (and walked for breaks tbh) a mile and it was 17:00 minutes 😭😭 but I haven’t been in shape since I haven’t been taking my usual Aerial classes. Also I’m 174 pounds and 5’11 which might make it harder to run? Idk but I broke my foot back in October and I aint in shape. I got plenty of time tho. Ik I can do the sit ups. Got plenty of time to get stronger.
I'm in England. But training is nearly similar. So for Americans who want military career first thing to do GET FIT. Do 2mile run daily. Do 20 press ups daily do 20 to 50 situps. I was in TA for few weeks. Believe me get fit.
For a really long time I’ve been thinking about joining the Air Force, like since 8th grade, and I did a semester of JROTC in my freshman year of high school but decided to quit it and said to myself I would never join, but my feelings have changed a lot since then after seeing first hand what it does to someone (my boyfriend is in the marines, his brother, and best friend friend from childhood) and seeing a lot of the positive changes. But there’s some negatives I’ve seen as well like being away from the family and dealing with the intense dress codes how to eat, talk, etc. it’s all been really on my mind and I’ve been seriously considering joining, but I’m definitely for sure on the fence about it! I suffer from pretty bad migraines that I get twice a year, which isn’t too bad since my episode history was a lot more frequent in the past, but I believe I’m growing out of it. I only get them when I’m under severe stress which is what is really making me reconsider those feelings of joining. I guess I’m making this comment to see if any of you guys think? I don’t want to lie about the migraines at meps and then go into boot camp and get a bad migraine (every migraine I’ve ever gotten makes me go blind in my left eye) that causes me to throw up and pass out (I’ve passed out from the pain before also) not sure what to do or think :) any thoughts would be appreciated
@@infini.tesimo why do you think that joining is so bad? I'm thinking about it but I don't have any references because Idk anybody that's in the military. Is it THAT bad?
I was still in Basic when Lackland had their annual "5K Fun Run" in '99. We got voluntold to participate, but that was about that time when the old morning soreness was the worst 'cause we were still building our stamina. The upside was we didn't have to run around in the dark on the same track/pad, meaning you could see a bunch of places on base you wouldn't normally see. The downside was, well, we had a bunch of real runners and they set the pace. After hitting my third kilometer in a faster-than-normal pace I began to think, "What have I gotten myself into? If I start speed walking at the 4 km mark, will I get recycled? Does a Fun Run count towards my PT evals?"
I’m planning on joining the Air Force after highschool but for the PT test I’d like to test myself on standards of men because tbh I think women should do the same as men I guess. I hope no one judges me on that.I freakin suck at pushups though, I rlly need to practice.
I totally get that, I feel similar. I get maybe our bodies are different and what not but shouldn't there be consistency in the military for fitness standards? Idunno. I'm guessing people who make more money than I do already had this conversation and figured it out lol
They're definitely doable. The minimum push ups for guys is 33, and then sit ups is 58, so at least strength wise, it's pretty easy to hit them if you practice constantly. Run wise though, in order to pass, you would need less than a 12:25 (if I remember correctly) for a person younger than 30, so that's where most girls will struggle to meet boy standards. But they are definitely attainable. I can tell you I honestly hit the minimum push ups and sit ups for guys (and go above them), the only one I can't always make is the run; but that's just cause I am naturally a distance runner and not a fast one. Kudos on you for already planning to go above what would be expected of you ! :D
Tbh operational, most people who don’t have squadron pt just start running for their test like a week or two out, it’s really not that hard for most. Don’t stress about it just worry about being good at your job, it’s not the pt tests, it’s not basic, nor tech school. You join for a reason, truth is that reason doesn’t matter, in the end we all wear the same uniform. Work hard even if you hate what you do and the airforce won’t be so bad. Don’t worry about the little bumps in the road, think about getting btz even as an AB or AMN bc you have all the time to get good bullets and also learn your job.
I love you and your videos! You’re very helpful. I’m in the process of leaving and you make me less anxious lol :-) you’re very beautiful and I love your makeup in all your videos! 💛
I absolutely love watching your videos, they have helped me so much and given me more confidence in joining 💗 i’ll be going to BMT in August for the AF and I was wondering what is the time you typically get done for the day while in basic?
@@EloraJean I've never been on a track where you did 1 lap. I've been on a track for 23 laps, 5 laps and my current track is 6 laps. I'm wondering if the 1 lap is better or not. Lol. Good job on your run. ♡
i did 33 push ups and 50 sit ups and i haven't exorcised much in the last 10 years. 12 more pushups and a jog pace of 7.6mph and im good for liberator. with moderate training i could probably pass thunderbolt. i got a guy recommending i join and im seeing how I'd stack up. i'm considering it but having to drop my life for 4-8 years sounds crazy.
12-13 minutes is slow?! 🥴 I’d be happy af to get those run times 😂 My slow self runs about a 15min mile and a half. Hopefully this video gives tips to run faster. I still pass but it’d be nice to be faster 🤷🏾♀️

This was really helpful. Thanks for the scoring chart. I’ve been trying to prepare for BMT. This was really helpful.
You started doing those situps and it wasn't until the woman behind the camera talked I realized it wasn't in fast motion lmao
Running a 14:13 with max sit ups and average to good pushups is a good score!! Good for you :)
Most relatable push ups ever!!! Go girl, you make me feel better about my pt score :)
You can run faster by how they do in track at the very end where they run with their hands behind you, it makes you run faster
What happens if you drop to the ground while doing pushups in BMT?
Thank you for making this video ❤
If you drop, that's the end of your test. However many you completed before dropping is the number they give you!
Girl! I suck at pushups too!!! 😌
Same! I can’t even do 1 :(
If you wanna get good at running, do sprints. That's what I do to prepare for the PFT. (Marine Corps)
Thank you so much for making this!! I just enlisted in the guard about a month ago and I’m in student flight right now. I had my first drill this month and I did sooooooo bad during the run😩😩.
You got it!
Your minimums kill me bc they’re so much less than mine as a 19 yr old in the navy 😭😭 and they minimums for the males too. lowkey kinda jealous.
I hope you realize the navy has a higher obeseidy rate then any other branch
@@mcNuggetMuncher LMAO
Sucks that there's a max amount of points you can get in situps/pushups. Lol otherwise I'd just do crazy good on those and just skip my running =D
I go to boot camp
In 39 days and I am a weakling… I’m really trying hard to push myself tho! FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION
LOL I don't miss this at all. Good to be out, but fun to watch the struggle. Back in 2003-05 we just sat on a bike, I started the machine, rode a certain amount, and then did push-ups and situps, it was easiest PT test ever lol.
Thank you for this! I'm training for the Guard now and the running is difficult but I think I can do it! i can now run a half a mile!
Your run was perfect! And I love that you did this video. Thank you for all the information.
The situps impressed me, but you were right about your push ups. Great video. Great info. 😊
I can’t do a single push-up 😑
Drink some milk
Start practicing then normie
Well at least you can probably run a mile no prob.. I'm joining soon and have zero run endurance... 😔.
3 miles? Please..
Bruh
you're awesome. ♡ thank you so much for this!
I'm enlisting into active air force from army reserves.
It's helpful to see the differences!
Much appreciated.
Thank you so much for linking the pt score chart! I'm in AFROTC and I've been having trouble finding it
As soon as she got on the camera i smiled and idk why 😅
8:17 I believe if you do that and as long as you make sure you don't raise anything other than your back you should be fine. I used the upward dog to rest though.
I can pass everything except the mile rn, and my recruiter told me to also lose 30 lbs. Im 6'1 232. Im 31 now waited entirely too long for this committment, but now its here I full heartedly am ready to be an airman.
JD White
good luck. How have things been for you these past few months?
Im in DEP. and i currently do crossfit which really helps. I do lack in a lot of fitness areas though! I want to be prepared 😢
I’ve been waiting for a detailed video like this!! Thank you for doing this. So very helpful💞
I was rooting for you on those pushups XD Thank you. So informative. :D
Thanks for making this video!! I'm looking into joining the Air Force soon and this was super helpful :)
It’s been 4 years!! How has it been going?
Can you make a video on training for your PT test. Loved this video 💗!!!
My brothers taking his final BMT PT test this week he’s one of the top runners right now
I'm in England. But training is nearly similar.
So for Americans who want military career first thing to do GET FIT. Do 2mile run daily. Do 20 press ups daily do 20 to 50 situps. I was in TA for few weeks. Believe me get fit.
Thank you so much after school I plan on joining and I’m trying to get in shape and study 24/7 so thanks
Don't do it.
I'm telling you right now to save your life and time. Don't do it.
@@infini.tesimo why do you think that joining is so bad? I'm thinking about it but I don't have any references because Idk anybody that's in the military. Is it THAT bad?
Good work, airman. Thanks for sharing this! Excellence in all we do.
Elora Jean I agreee, you’re joining the military not some random p.e class but everyone has their own opinion it’s fine
Natalia Vazquez I’m sure the minimum for guys is like in the low 40’s for sit ups..
*SO HELPFUL thank you!! but, I'm confused.....push ups NEED to go beneath 90 degrees or do they hate when you do that??*
Girl !! You’re amazing ! Thank you so much!
Thank you for doing this! I’m super nervous and my test is Thursday.
Wow this was really informative thank you!
Glad you thought so!
Hi..I just ran into your channel while searching for something else and I gotta say that I am learning a lot..Thanks for the heads up🙂🙂
Thank you Elora this really helps me out a lot!!! You are strong
I love you and your videos! You’re very helpful. I’m in the process of leaving and you make me less anxious lol :-) you’re very beautiful and I love your makeup in all your videos! 💛
You're so kind, thank you so much! I'm glad I could help a little :)
I absolutely love watching your videos, they have helped me so much and given me more confidence in joining 💗 i’ll be going to BMT in August for the AF and I was wondering what is the time you typically get done for the day while in basic?
Oh Goodness I That Track Is Huge !
It's normal size! Probably just looks big from this angle lol
@@EloraJean I've never been on a track where you did 1 lap. I've been on a track for 23 laps, 5 laps and my current track is 6 laps. I'm wondering if the 1 lap is better or not. Lol. Good job on your run. ♡
R C I’ve never heard of a one-lap track to do a mile or mile 1/2, this track is standard size and I ran 6 laps total for my 1.5 mile
So the arm stance for push-ups are wide push-ups and not close to your body push ups ?
I believe you can do tricep push-ups if you desire, but I could definitely be wrong
Thank you for this video Elora! It is very helpful and thoughtful. We really appreciate you sharing, thank you again:)
i did 33 push ups and 50 sit ups and i haven't exorcised much in the last 10 years. 12 more pushups and a jog pace of 7.6mph and im good for liberator.
with moderate training i could probably pass thunderbolt.
i got a guy recommending i join and im seeing how I'd stack up. i'm considering it but having to drop my life for 4-8 years sounds crazy.
Thanks for doing this video, it helps a lot.
I just watched this and tried to do it and I heard the push up requires and I actually failed so now I am doing it every day!!
Thanks for the info and for the demonstration!!!
I want to go to BMT prepared! You did great love ❤️ I need the help lol
Wow, I have a lot of work to do. Thank you for doing the video!!
Wow great video, very helpful!
Very helpful videos! I am 34 and shipping out 10/16!
I'm the same way with push ups, girl! Especially when I'm the only female tester.
I didn't see any push-ups that broke 90 degrees.
Thanks for the info this video help me much ☺️
12-13 minutes is slow?! 🥴 I’d be happy af to get those run times 😂 My slow self runs about a 15min mile and a half. Hopefully this video gives tips to run faster. I still pass but it’d be nice to be faster 🤷🏾♀️
Yes of course. As your arms are costed on your chest/shoulder/clavicle are - *They Need to *stay that way *entire time; your elbows are on your body - they have to stay there / you cannot pull them up and away from your body.
Nmn M That’s where you’re wrong, because your elbows have to touch part of your thigh. I’m a physical training leader and was instructed specifically how to complete these tests, so the information in sharing is accurate. Thanks for trying to help though!
Your videos are so helpful.. thank you!!
