  • Diving head-first into my exploration of sub-hilt knives, I added the Cold Steel OSI to the selection. And I really like it. Better, in fact, than the OSS because of blade shape, feel and balance for me.
    Let me know if you have any recommendations for a sub-hilt knife. This has become a very interesting experiment. More to come, I promise.

    Very good demonstration. I have finally come around to this knife in an edc role. Your carry choices are well thought out and I will probably adopt them.

    great overview mate, I like the OSI and will be doing the sheath mods as you have done.
    The other one you could get if one is available is the Boar Collector.

    If the back edge of the OSS was that dull, then you might have just had a bad one. I literally sliced my knuckle open with mine two days ago. I stupidly tried to cut some paracord with it because I was too lazy to grab another knife, and as I cut away from myself the back edge dipped down and sliced into my left knuckle like a scalpel. Mine came pretty much razor sharp out of the box.

    Well, my custom Lyuesword showed up while I was watching this video. Saya has some rattle (which I should be able to fix) but otherwise everything else is nice and tight. It is heavier than my other blades but it doesn't feel like it. Also, the curve of the blade is different than what I'm use to but it feels really nice when I swing it. Over all, I'm really pleased with it.

    • @michaelrizzo5523

      Yes, sadly a lot of production Chinese saya aren't very well fit. I've had to adjust the mouths on about half my examples one way or the other. As heard in one of my sword-drawing videos, one of my Lyueswords actually rattles on the draw because the inside of the saya is slightly washboarded. I'm glad you like it. Now let me now how it performs!

    Try upside down left side. Best way to conceal a large blade, and - to me- it is also the most comfortable carrying option.

  • @christopherfranklin972

    Michael,have you thought about a shoulder rig carried under the left arm?
    I used to carry a Gerber Guardian that way as it was concealed yet convenient,big difference in size I know but in theory it might offer a solution.

    • @michaelrizzo5523
      @michaelrizzo5523  2 года назад +1

      I had tried a shoulder rig (for handguns as well as knives) for a time, but in the case of fixed blade knives, concealment of any kind in the states I frequent is a crime. (Even if one has a permit to conceal a firearm. Go figure.) When I lived in places that didn't restrict such things, I did like the tip-up option for carrying longer blades this way.

    The OSS I bought wasn't that sharp either, just like the OSI demonstrated here with the paper. So far the sharpness has been the worst (out of the box) of any CS knives I've bought. Easily sharpened though and I like to do that to each of my knives. No reason to have dull knives that make that horrible tearing sound like that OSI and doesn't cut as well as it could, if sharpened properly. Over all though, I'm very happy with the OSS. It's light, nimble and essentially a dagger and has a place on my bow hunting belt, just because.

    • @michaelrizzo5523
      @michaelrizzo5523  8 месяцев назад

      The OSI was the sharpest of the line. Unfortunately the poor edge extended to the much more expensive Black Bear Classic. That took some significant re-profiling to take and keep a good edge.

    • @MrMZaccone
      @MrMZaccone 8 месяцев назад +1

      It is also easily dulled if you keep using a sheath made out of glass-filled nylon. Kydex would be preferable but C.S. insists on this cheap, mass-produced, injection-molded, junk.

    • @michaelrizzo5523
      @michaelrizzo5523  8 месяцев назад
