    Fred is obsessed with music. He never sleeps, I spent some time with him a few years ago in Cape Breton and he would stay up all night playing tunes by himself. He's amazing! Nice guy

    This is definitly one of my favourite clips of the whole series. I love Fred Morrisons face at 3:16. It's like he's surprised by the sound they're producing. The bouzouki, dobro and pipes blend so well together.

    Jerry Douglas. He's been around a while in bluegrass and country circuits, including Alison Krauss and Union Station. He has also recorded with Tony Rice, J.D. Crowe, Ricky Skaggs, and many others. A number of good albums out under his own name as well.

    Michael McGoldrick eventually switched to playing goldies instead of Kerry Pro, so it could possibly be a Goldie. You can tell the difference easily on the tunable models because the tuning slide is different (the kerry pro has an external slide, and the goldies is internal), but it appears he is playing an untunable one here, so it's hard telling which, as they look nearly identical.

  • @JosephChordmichael

    Rip the Calico seems a tad fast but very rousing, at least for me. Love Lochaber Badger especially though, wonder tune, and that dobro fits nicely. Not sure what Fred was thinking there with replacing an entire phrase with a repeated ornament though.... good nonetheless, and wow, Donal Lunny certainly looks different than when he was with The Bothy Band...

      俺、地学や地理学、気候なんかにすごく興味あるけど、音楽も好きで、、ゆえに民族音楽にも、凄く魅力を感じてる。。気候帯と民族音楽には深い関係がありそうで、、そのサウンドをその気候帯で聞くという贅沢な旅をしてみたい。
      本当は、大学ではそんな地理学や民族音楽のことを学びたかったんだ。。。思い出した、、けど、そ大学が、あはなた来なくてよいと通知してきたから、やめただけだった。。

    • @user-PoliceMisconduct
      @user-PoliceMisconduct 8 лет назад

      +yassy588 I don't think climate in general affects pipes. They can be somewhat adjusted, but if it's below freezing outside, I found them to be extremely difficult. Temperature variations may affect them, like when you tune up in an air conditioned room and then play outside.

    Does anyone know whether the title 'Farewell to Uist' is real or an error? Last I know, Fred Morrison hadn't named the waltz that he plays alongside Lochaber Badger, and farewell to Uist is a very different tune, but it is possible the two have the same name.
