I think it depends on the amount eaten. My husband and I eat natto almost everyday for the past 2.5 years. The only days we don’t eat natto is during special days (holidays/birthdays/etc). We eat only 2 tbsp a day. We definitely eat a variety of other foods and also consume other fermented foods (kimchi, sauerkraut, keffir, kombucha, yogurt, miso).
Thank you for your comment, starcraft ghost. Yes, the amount is critical. 2 table spoon isn't too much. They say if you eat over 100 grams(2 packs of natto) you might have problems. I try to limit to about 50 grams a day. The fact that you are also eating a lot of other foods count, too.
I eat approximately 3 packets a day. I was thinking of eating even more than that because I thought why not eat more fiber, more K2, more probiotics daily? But in light of your warnings, I will not do this
The recommended dosage of nattokinase per day is 2000 units. 50grams of natto contains approx 1500 units nattokinase. Studies have shown that these doses are innefective for arterial disease. Study shows that a dosage of 10,500 units per day over 12 months were effective. That would be roughly 350 grams or 2 cups of natto per day.
Was the study just the isolated enzyme Nattokinase or did the participants eat Natto? I think a lot of people go wrong when they just isolate one molecule or item. There may be a synergistic effect of the protein or Vitamin K2 or some other bacteria in the whole food that allows the nattokinase be more efficient.
an ancient culture eating natto for thousands of years with many health benefits got it wrong!!!! but modern folks with bottles of nattokinase get it right??? um ok. small dose over a lifetime vs. mega dose for some limited time study.
90% of research papers lack a proper scientific foundation, 90% of clinical trials lack rigor, 100% of supplements in the united states are unregulated, and random sampling shows that many don't even contain what the label claims they contain, then the rest suffer from contamination and purity issues, very few actually are pure. Eat natto Do not take nattokinase. Two or three servings a day TOPS, is probably rational. But you do you.
I usually have 1-2 packs a day and am always feeling great I also have kimchi once per day. today I had just two packs for dinner not one at lunch is that okay to have both packs at the same time??
When first starting to eat natto about 4 tablespoons on rice 5 days a week, cause intermittent joint pain. I know my cholesterol dropped 30 points in 6 weeks.
Thanks for posting this video and the EXCELLENT information in it. I eat Natto at a nearby Japanese restaurant maybe twice a month. I have never made Natto, so that is something to put on my list of things to do. I want to investigate where I can buy Natto near me that is non-GMO (and ideally, certified organic). I have bought your book Natto Unleashed for myself and look forward to reading it, and have given a copy to someone as a raffle prize at a Natto dinner I organized at a nearby Japanese restaurant, Kohaku, in Huntington, NY. Not many Japanese restaurants near me serve Natto. Natto is not exactly on the menu even at this place, but if you ask and they have it, you can order a few Natto dishes (Natto hand roll, Yamaimo Natto, and Maguro Natto), and I'm sure if you ordered Natto on Brown Rice with some Soy Sauce, and Scallions they would make it for you. Everyone tried two pieces of a Natto mat roll (made especially for this dinner) and all 13 people who attended liked Natto! I too want to spread the news about Natto, and shared the information you shared in this video even before I watched this (diversity of diet, don't eat too much, check with your doctor, etc.)! Thanks very much for spreading the word about Natto (not convinced about the benefits of intermittent fasting but will investigate further...have heard conflicting views on the benefits, and it possibly being harmful at least for some if not everyone). I will next buy your book about the Ikigai Diet in the paperback edition. ❤☮🌎
Thank You Vero muchas for all the information you give us! I followed your recipe to make natto with a herb (Basil as I did not have mint) and it worked fine! ❤❤
can I ask you a question? as I know soy bean has too much estrogen which would cause hair fall or cancer, so after fermentation the estrogen in soy bean can be reduced? do you know that ? if you know, please let me know. thank you. I am a female, very thin hair, I began to eat natto two days, i feel more hair shedding, I am so worried about it
i have hashimotos. i take 1/2 pkt of natto daily and find no problems but we are all different. you have to experiment and check your normal blood tests. soybean oil is in many foods (mayonnaise for instance) . i avoid soybean oil so maybe that's why i have no probs.
I'm trying to make natto without the starter. I want to know what it tastes like exactly, I don't want to eat spoiled soyabeans. Mine smells like alcohol and tastes bitter without adding any condiments. Is that how it's supposed to taste like?
Yes, you can, but they don't taste as good as fermented soybeans. As for the health benefits, you should gain some of the health benefits in natto such as natto kin.
2021 study "Preparation of Vitamin K2 Mk-7 in a Process of Fermentation..." graphs 1 day ferment levels of K2 in lentils as about 50% less and in chickpeas 25% of soybeans. Nattokinase can be seen in how slimy it gets. So yes you can, but it is likely suboptimallly adapted/effective for nutrition.
Just excatly what i need to know. Got a knee pain after consuming natto 3 days in row. Was wondering why, untill i watched this video. Now i take only 1 tablespoon a day in the evening. To break my ITF i take 2-3 beans only. Thank so much for all your effort. Good bless you
Hello do you have a video on how to make Natto without pressure cooker ? I am not sure if that’s possible but if so I’d love to watch that video. Thank u !
Thank you for your question, Yoko. I don't have a video for that. You can steam soybeans without using a pressure cooker, too. It takes a lot longer. Three to six hours. The steps are the same as this. How to Make Natto from a Wild Plant by Natto King ruclips.net/video/Q37Ap8wftz0/видео.html Just replace the pressure steaming part to regular steaming.
Thank you for your comment, Michael. Nattokinase in Natto is not good with heat, over 50 degrees centigrade, so if you want to gain the benefits of nattokinase, it is better that you don’t mix natto with cooked food. However Natto bacteria don’t die even with the boiling temperature, you still get the benefits of natto bacteria. For nattokinase, please watch the video below. I used to eat 12 packs of natto a day for a few months! It was the cheapest way that I could find to get a lot protein when I lived in Japan. I also mixing it with raw egg and tororo for probably the slimiest dish ever created.
Thank you for your comment, Banzaiburger. I don't know about cod liver. If it is high in purine, you might want to consider the frequency of eating it.
Can natto be dangerous if it dislodge a blood clot you don’t know about? Or will the clot reduce in size too fast to pose a threath? And could it be added when taking anti coagulants? I want to stop with the anti coagulants in order to take natto, since natto does so many things for the cardiovascular system that the anti coagulants don’t. Is it safe to stop with anti coagulants and just overlap it with natto? And before someone says I have to «talk to my doctor».. 😂 don’t bother.. They know NADA about this.
Thank you for your question. Yes, it is best you ask your doctor about it. Or other medical professionals. I am sorry, I am not able to answer your question.

Since natto are soybeans, and soybeans are estrogenic and goitrogenic. Are they not good for the people with thyroid problem?

Hi, thank you for the clip. May I ask if asking natto in the morning is bad? Didn't hear you mentioned much about breakfast.
people eat it for breakfast with a raw egg yolk and rice but the eggs in Japan are clean and do not have bacteria we have in states.
Can you make natto with other legumes like lentils or chickpeas?

Depends on who’s asking..
Yes, it depends on what else you are eating and your metabolic condition, doesn't it.
I make and eat my own natto. The amount each day is a heaping table spoon full.
great. Thank you for your comment, Idowebs.
