When she goes all gravelly you think she's hit the top of her range. But no, it's just a Satch tribute, and she's got a couple more keys to go. Amazing. She just owns the song.
She was an excellent singer, full of voice, class and elegance. Moreover she could do the impressions of some her colleagues. Very nice and difficult song. Artists like these will never come back again
For someone who sang the blues, she always had such a smile in her song. So much happiness in her voice. Like she just felt so wonderful to be singing. So happy to know of her music. 💛
I cant quite put my finger on it but ella fitzgeralds voice has such a zest / fizz to it? Someone may come up with a better one word answer and i would love to hear others describe her voice in one word. 🤔
In the comment section of another video (Ella Fitzgerald's Signature Singing Style, Explained By Jazzmeia Horn), @juancpgo wrote: "Ella expressed joy, warmth and strength. There's a mother quality in her voice to me. It's an interesting contrast to Billie Holiday's broken voice who expressed vulnerability and rawness. The voice exposes the personality behind it." One word from what Juan wrote (mother) in its adjective form (motherly) embodies the special quality in Ella's voice, and what I experience when I listen to her. When I listen to Ella Fitzgerald, I feel deeply nurtured.🥰 *Motherly*, Cambridge dictionary definition: treats other people with a lot of kindness and love and tries to make certain they are happy. (BTW, I don't have any idea who juancpgo is.)
This looks fake. It's not the actual performance of Ella doing her great Mack The Knife in Berlin. You cannot find that anywhere in YT. I have the audio and it is truly great.
SHE is music. Amazing to see how beat pours out of that extraordinary singer.
Her Majesty, The Queen of Jazz!

Phenomenal performance! Ella's swinging but shout out to Tommy Flanagan on the keys! He's holding court masterfully on this tune too!

Boa parte do meu bom gosto musical devo a minha amiga Adri que espontaneamente foi grande influenciadora. Sinto muita falta.
I like this version better than the one where she didn’t remember the lyrics
I don’t know. The Berlin performance was something special…
油の乗り気った、頃でしょうね。思いのままですね。
ところ、どころに、サッチモが、現れますね。ユ-モアもありますね。
