I got my Fox back in 1985. 9 years old. I was inexperienced and did not read the instructions properly. I painted the outside of the body shell :( Could not afford a replacement. Never understood back then that you paint the inside lol. Brush painted as well. What a mess. Bloody rear axles on this thing were a huge pain in the arse. They would shear off if you slammed it into reverse. £9.00 each I would be begging my dad to take me to the model shop every 2 weeks. A lot of cash back then. My poor dad. Believe it or not the model shop is still open to this day and still does RC. Very rare in this day and age.
Wow now that was a trip down memory lane!! I've built this baby 25 years ago and she still is one of most beautiful cars ever produced by Tamiya. The 959 still is my favorite
I think it’s one of Tamiya’s best looking buggies, I have an original and after watching your video I could see the difference between the two. Now I want to get a Nova Fox . Great video Gavin can’t wait to see it run .
I had one when I was 13, maybe 1988 or so. It quickly got put to duty on an indoor off road carpet track, and a fair share of wins pretty much stock. Modified it along the way and it became worse and worse, lol. The mechanical speed control was pretty bad, lol.
PS-16 Avante Blue!! Wow! Great paint job! When I painted my last body I used Tamiya PS-18 Metallic Purple and backed it with white. Well done on the build mate! Cheers!
You could use the film for masking the roll cage bars, then clear coat it. That is how hemistorm does his window trim. I did a flat bonnet that way and it still gives sharp edges.
Love it. I do chuckle at the way they provide a rubber cover for the switch which is well up out of water and debris, yet the servo only has some open cell foam and crud will soon find its way in there. Still love it though
MrMelton77 yeh me too - I had a demon motor in mine and it was fast for the day. Never liked the front swivel joints on the wishbones much, I was always having to get replacements. Not easy pre internet!
Found this og kit in my dads garage. Im trying to get it back to working condition but all seems to be well except the bearing on the driver front side
Paul Nehme here did you glue the ball ends into the front uprights? If not for some reason the novafox doesn’t have quite enough meat for the ball ends to bite into the uprights and they will pop out. They will need to be glued in.
Nice one Gav great build! Always liked the Fox but come on Tamiya sort yourselves out, all the bearings bar the front wheels? What is it with multi million pound companies that always leave a bit of extra cost to the consumer!!?? Other companies...cough...Kyosho.... Give you EVERYTHING you need...honestly!!!!! Rant over, keep up the good work bud 👍
Great vid again. Love the look of this oldie :) I recently bought my first vintage :) Its an Optima Mid, but Im not shure exactly what version it is. Could I maybe somehow send you a few pictures for you to look at, and try to see what it really is? Kind regards.
@RCKicks Just a question , as I’m stuck ! I have built a nova fox ,however 2 washers are missing , they are the washers that go over the cross bar either end in the middle section over the casing , I’ve been told and checked in the brochure that they are part no - 980 4228 (3mm) . Is this correct ?? as the ones I see on your car look more like 2 washers that go around hexagon nuts on the knuckles in the front ! Left & right …
Hi Gavin, ironically I was building the Nova fox just as you released this video. Quick question for you, if you have run it yet do you find th gearbox smooth? I'm getting a small issue when going from forward to reverse or vice versa with a noticeable clicking sound? It's a pretty basic build so I'm a little baffled ?
I picked it up a year ago now and if I remember correctly, it wasn't easy to get back then. I would keep an eye out on the RC stores as Tamiya will put out some replacement body sets now its reissued the Nova this month.
Who at Tamiya decided it should ship without front bearings in this day and age? What a silly idea if including them in the rest in the kit. In fact the traditional approach to not include bearings in expensive, hobby grade kits has bothered me since I built my first car in the 80's. Dumb concept. Needs to go away. Beautiful kit otherwise.
My first rc car, 1988.
2022 and that Fox is still SOOOOOO BAD ASS!

The Fox was a beast back in the day, very fast RC car for Tamiya.
She is beautiful, there's something so magical about these older cars I love them

I used to have the fox, the Blackfoot and the rc10 back when I was a kid. I'm 47 now and to this day I have no idea whatever happened to them
I love taking ff the over spray plastic it's like opening a Christmas present

This is going to be a must have for me, especially since I missed the original Fox! You did a brilliant job of it.
Love the jamming music....i might play this while i work out. if only i worked out.
I have an original one of these on the bench at the moment, fixing it up for my son.
Cool! Good to keep the vintage cars still going.
Your Novafox looks fantastic! Can’t wait to see the running video and the second body you have planned for it. 👍🏻
PS-16 Avante Blue!! Wow! Great paint job! When I painted my last body I used Tamiya PS-18 Metallic Purple and backed it with white. Well done on the build mate! Cheers!
Thanks 👍🏻
Wow she is a beauty, a great car I remember driving one years ago, I would love to get to drive one now.😀😀😀
Beautiful Build 🤩 Just finished the Body on mine. Doing a reverse build! Looking forward to the Chassis.

Very nice build Gav, the colour looks amazing. Will keep an eye out for the running video. Keep up the good work.
Cool, I’m gonna have to get one of those. I love the single shock design.
Had an original Fox; it was great!
I'm really enjoying your content. Thank you for the outstanding videos!
Great build there Gavin 👍
Love it.

The original Fox had rubber where the servo comes through the tub too!
Indeed it had!
Wow that paint job does pop. Awesome job
Thanks 👍
Looks awesome mate , that blue really pops . All the best ....................
Thanks 👍
9:08 Bane takes over the build 😀
Absolutely Beautiful!
Dammit gav you convinced me ta get another tamiya 🤣
Looks awesome nice build.. had one back in the day great car :)
Hahaha... I thought there were other builds in front of this one! Was waiting for this, I’m re-building an 85 original as we speak!
Great job as always.
It looks awesome 👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great build Gavin. Mate had a Fox in the 80s, his brother had a Hotshot and I had a Bigwig. Always thought the Fox was the looker out of the bunch.
MrMelton77 yeh me too - I had a demon motor in mine and it was fast for the day. Never liked the front swivel joints on the wishbones much, I was always having to get replacements. Not easy pre internet!
Kool build fun I love ur content
Looks great; Yes its pretty hard not to build
Very nice amigo 😀👍
Found this og kit in my dads garage. Im trying to get it back to working condition but all seems to be well except the bearing on the driver front side
Thought I’d rounded off my collection but I think this would be really interesting to compare to the tomahawk. The blue pops really good!
It has the same kind of personality like the TH. 2WD vintage classics.
Great Video! I wish, i can get one!!! Best regards.
Keep an eye out, it might take a while but you can find them. I have wanted one for two years.
It don’t come with bearings??
Looks awesome similar to hornet I’m guessing drive wise.
Awesome motor - had the Hornet back in the day myself 👍🏼👍🏼. Where’s the test drive outside - the vid cut off before you showed it?!
I had one of these when I was a kid, except mine was just the Fox, not Novafox.
Cool!
You bad boy 👊🏻👍🏻

Really! No I didn't.

Hi is this a good first Tamiya car or is the BBX better
Reliability and lowest maintenance are key for me

Ya seem to be rushing ya builds and videos these days.
Working to a 2-3 day per video. This is the level of content needed to grow.

Yeah, The Fox/Novafox does look cool. Same it's a piece of plastic crap like most other Tamiyas...
