  • This video features an extremely rare and original 1964 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe (chassis number of this Daytona is CSX 2300), only six Daytona original coupes were ever built between 1964 and 1965. Carroll Shelby himself owned this Daytona before it was sold by RM Auctions for $4.4 million on August 19, 2000. In 2009 a Daytona Coupe (chassisnumber CSX2601) was sold for $7.25million US dollars, with such a ridiculous value it's even more incredible to see one being driven very fast around track!

      @@feydespiel. - Sorry to re-inform you, but every one of the 6 original Daytona Coupes was powered by the venerable 289 small block with 4, twin choke, downdraft Weber carbs and producing 390 HP. After this car won the World Manufacturers Championship, the only American built car to this day to achieve that, Shelby's crew decided to try an all aluminum 390 FE big block. Alas, it wasn't to be, as Ford directed Shelby American to dedicate all of their time to making the prototype GT 40 MK1 a winner, something the British hadn't achieved so far. No further work was done with the Daytona Coupe and that was it!
      I am fortunate to own one of the very rare books on this car titled "Daytona Cobra Coupes" by Peter Brock, the designer of the car (in just 90 days), Dave Friedman, Shelby American official photographer, and George Stauffer. To my knowledge, there was only one edition printed in 1995, and it is considered the most complete documentation of this famous car. I brought it to the Lime Rock Park Historic Festival on two occasions and had both Carroll Shelby and Peter Brock sign it for me. It's a fantastic collection of all the aspects of building this car. Look at the prices on Ebay and you will see how coveted this book is to serious collectors! $$$$ With those two signatures and the book being in very good condition, it could quite easily fetch $2,500 -$3,500, or more on ebay! I have no plans to sell it!

      @@pbgoodwin1 I absolutely think so! Did you know that it is the only American built car to win the FIA World Manufacturers Championship for Shelby American and Ford? At least 55 years ago, we knew how to build a successful race car. I'm pushing 72, and this is and has been one of my favorite racing machines! Beautiful looks, beautiful sound and a major automotive racing success. The body was designed and the car built in just 90 days by a handful of California hot rodders. Trust me when I tell you that will never happen again - the 1960s were unique and special times. I was fortunate to meet and chat with Pete Brock, the designer, at The Lime Rock Park Historic Festival in 2016. I also had him sign the rare book, "The Cobra Daytona Coupes", which Carroll Shelby also signed for me in 2006. Meeting Shelby and chatting briefly with him, was a high point in my life that I will never forget! The real ironic part of the Daytona Coupe was it was built to beat Ferrari for sure. Outside of the first body being built in California by Peter Brock and the Shelby American crew, the other 5 bodies were built right in old Enzo's home town of Modena, Italy by Carrozzeria Gransport! How's that for a slap in the face. Vengeance is mine sayeth the Ford. Lol

    it only costs that much because of it's limited availabiltiy and the fact that rich people are willing to pay over the odds to buy it. I don't think that is $7.25M worth of car. Then again some things are stupidly prices. Prada flip flops probably cost $200

    • @Loulovesspeed
      @Loulovesspeed 3 года назад +1

      @Grimshaw Grummage - The Daytona's limited availability is but one reason for its high value. The fact that it was an American Built car and it beat a company which was founded in racing for many years, while Ford produced Mom and Pop cars is another. It was made by a company that was named after its creator, the American icon, Carroll Shelby. The biggest reason for its value, and I personally think it's way too low at $7.25M, is that the Cobra Daytona Coupe is, to this day, the only American car to have won the prestigious World Manufacturers Championship for Shelby American and Ford Motor Co. If you think it's not worth that much, what do you say about a Ferrari 250 GTO selling for over $60,000,000?

      @Randy Randerson - I read that the Daytona Coupe could actually out pace the 1964 Ford GT MK 1 in that car's early development! It sure did in this video.

    i'll still say that csx 2601 ( the one with 12 on the hood) sounds even better than this monster

      Snehan Ghosal I'm pretty positive that the Daytona Coupe shown in this video, whether with or without race numbers, was chassis CSX2300 which is owned and thankfully taken to tracks and historic rallies quite regularly by the Ellerbrock family. CSX2601 on the other hand is the #26 car I believe.

    Why does it cost 7mil ? Can i also build a old car that will look like this and cost atleast 1mil ?

      Das Auto ist unglaublich selten und ein Sammlerstück. Für damalige Verhältnisse war es Ingenieurskunst und dieses Auto hat jeden nassgemacht. Wenn du es nachbaust kriegst du es nicht 1 zu 1 hin und der Motor kommt ja auch dazu. Nachbauten liegen vllt bei 50k Euro.

      It's an incredibly rare purpose built Shelby race-car that handed Ferrari's 250GTOs their ass in the World SportsCar Championship.

    Why does this look so similar to the Ferrari 250gto

    • @mikejorgensen3496

      because they copied the body design almost directly

    • @Loulovesspeed
      @Loulovesspeed 3 года назад +1

      @@mikejorgensen3496 - Not really, the design was inspired by early 1930s German air flow studies which Brock got from the G.M. archives when he was designing the Stingray. While there are some similarities to the GTO, there are more differences used in the Daytona.

    • @mikejorgensen3496

      @@Loulovesspeed the Chopped off recessed tail design was taken directly from Ferrari

    • @Loulovesspeed
      @Loulovesspeed 3 года назад +1

      @@mikejorgensen3496 Look more carefully at the ass end of each car. The Ferrari's ass is vertical until it hits the spoiler, and it's not concave like the Daytona, or anywhere near as sharply angled. Sooooooo, the Daytona's rear end is quite different than the GTO! Too bad for Ferrari that the "same design" worked successfully for Shelby and not so for Enzo!
