  • The A34 Comet was designed by Leyland Motors in 1943. Mechanically it was similar to the A27M Cromwell, but the aim was to mount the 17pdr (76.2mm) anti-tank gun and increase the thickness of the tank's armour. A prototype was ready by February 1944 and the Comet entered service with the 11th Armoured Division in early 1945. Production ended in May 1945, by which time 1,200 had been built. This Comet is part of the running fleet at The Tank Museum in Dorset, UK.
