Seeing a leopard 2 drive by you at 40km\h is really an experience
"Hey babe, come and check this out. You're not going to believe what I just bought. It's sitting right in our driveway!!!"
"hey babe I got us a new Porsche"
Next buy will be a crane I guess. 😆
Famous last words....😂😂
That's why men should just marry men, There's dolls and such to handle the other urges
These Engines would be awesome in a Marine Application!
Big block V12s are the most satisfying engines ever
As a former Leopard 2A6 tank driver, I approve of this soundclip! But it's even better in real life :) :)
i love the sound it makes. you dont happen to have a spear Leo 2 engine laying around? i want to swap one in to my LandCruiser😜
Wow!!!!👌👌👌
I don't agree with you... You are not a former leopard 2A6 tank driver ... You was the tank itself 👍
I miss the sound the leopards make. One of the few things I miss in the military.
My favourite one is the t55 engine
That is the most round v12 engine I’ve seen.
Always great to hear those massive engines roaring to life! Absolutely cool 😎 👍👍
This was really far out! Reminds me of when I was in Ft. Irwin, where we had M48A2 tanks. Engines were run on test stands w/o any mufflers. Inside the shop, you could feel your chest being pounded with the loud sound!
For some who dont know: The MTU Powerunit is a Engine that can run on every fuel :)
Even rocket fuel?
@@Roboseal2sure. Probably be a nightmare to get it but itll work
Uranium?
Not the ONLY engine that can run on ALMOST Every Fuel.
Multifuel Compression Ignition Engines Do not run well on normal Car Petrol for example.
@@Roboseal2 It depends on what kind of fuel it is. It runs fine on jet fuel and kerosene. :)
Leopard 1 engine sound is just something else, it vibrates your entire body when you stand next to it
That's interesting, did you get to hear it in person?
Yep 😀
@@MikadoRC oh wow that's awesome!
3:59.... some Scania V8 have this sound
The Leo1 sound is amazing and also a planned part of the design. When you hear Leos coming through the forrest its almost impossible to tell witch direction they come from or how many they are. I spent a year on a Leo1 and the sound it what Im missing.
These engines are straight from hell
I shared it with a buddy that was a cold war Tanker in Korea. My Jr. High Janitor was a Sherman crew man that served under General Patton. I miss old Abe.
Cool to see how the Maybach has developed - it is much sleeker, more luxurious and quieter today. 😄😄
There is nothing and i mean nothing sexier than a large engine throwing a huge chuck of steel along a road, this video should be X rated i was practically moist when the Leopard 2 burst into life lol
FASCINANTE, escuchar estas maravillas mecánicas través del video son una invitación. Gracias por tan buena presentación. 👍
It is a pity there aren't any video about the French designed V8 1500 HP using Hyperbar technology. As a former AMX employee, I participated to the trials of that engine that later became the powertrain of the Leclerc.
The major issue that was finally solved was the lag, exactly like a conventional turbo charged engine.
That Maybach is just perfection 🤷🏻♂️
Agree :)
Got to ride a couple. Best job I ever had.
Outstanding video!
Thank you!
MTU the best beast
Avco Lycoming in stratford ct. Made thousands.
I love hearing the two stroke diesel
But you’ll hate fixing it.
Saudades dos meus tempos de Infantaria de Selva quando usávamos esses blindados. 😪
Maybach HL230 is my favorite!
Very good video thank you. I'm pretty certain the Continental W670 depicted Was a nice old air cooled radial, or round engine, as the Americans call it... NOT a V12 liquid cooled. Ducted fan cooled modified aircraft engine. I'm not a rivet counter, I just worked on a few of them.👍
pretty similar sort of shape though aren't they... easy to get mixed up. ahem!
Though I'd be rather interested to see how such an engine would be shoe horned into an armoured vehicle.
@@annpeerkat2020 Pretty easy for an old bloke like me Ann..I get very confused😃! ..I ought to know.. I've worked on V12 Merlins(Spitfires, etc) Lycoming, & Continental radials ( Stearman, Ag-cat etc.). Best times👍
Sorry! 220hp Continental radials were used in the DUWCs/Landing craft on D day, if you stooge around the dunes on the Normandy coast, there's still a few wrecks there. Also, the Sherman tank had radials, some had GM liquid cooled engines. NOW..before you start taking the Mickey..NO..Im not THAT OLD.
The W670 was in a handful of early light tanks, mounted vertically the same an aircraft due to the sump return. A slightly different variant of the W670 was used in a number of aircraft.
@@krisholt8390 Spot on Kris.👍
The continental V12 is actually a radial.
Outstanding video, history and entertainment well done
27 litre, V12 masterpiece of German engineering.
that is the wrong engine.
My dad used to have an old German patrol boat with a Maybach HL230 Engine
Mistake or error @2:48 you have info for the AV1790 and not the R-975. 🙂
That Meteor is goated
I like those MTU diesels.
Just a note, the continental wright r-975 was NOT a diesel engine as shown in the video. It was a 9 cylinder radial gasoline engine. There was also a 15 cylinder variant that was used very little.
"They will hear our Detroit motors long before we get into that town...."
Can’t wait to see the ev tank
That Leyland L60 sounds nice 👌🏾
@neoman7792 i like it too :)
2:17
the moment a little boys blood turned into Fuel😊
Looking forward to seeing the ev battery version of these, i can't imagine in a frozen war zone an ev would work too well
Sweetness, Tanks a Lot😂
I'm famous now!! That first clip is me! That engine is now in a hotrod.
It’s even scarier sitting in a little Ford Jeep in Nam in middle of the nite and you look up and see one coming straight at you.
For some reason they turned and started firing just before they got to me.
All I had on was my cat eyes.
Shook the ground coming at me,
Even much more when it started firing.
Wrong description at 2:00, that's a radial 9 cylinder Continental R-975 (15,9L, 450hp)
Too bad you couldn't get the AGT1500 that's used on the current M1 tank - it's a gas turbine!
ALL commanded by ODDBALL
the sheridan wasnt light weight with better suspension to improve power to weight and cross country. the lighter weight and suspension was so it could be airdropped by parachute. turns out the armor being so light made the tank so weak, it never caught on and the program was abandoned.
Leopard 2 is the dad of all tanks
Nice one !!!
Thank you :)
I like how everything doesn't seem shoved in it looked easily bolted on unlike todays vehiclea
Супер !!!! Харьковский монстр !!!! Я их ещё в детстве видел и восхищался на ХВЗ... ( Велосипедном) ха Ха ха.
The only engine that sounds better to me than the Detroit 8V series two-stroke is the Napier Deltic. Nice collection, but the subtitle on the radial Sherman engine is incorrect.
How good does the leopard engine sound the v12 one not the second one
Only in Russia, a 38 l V12 makes a meager 580 Hp.
These V12 have a beautiful sound. The Leopard sounds as badass as it looks.
More modern Russian Diesel engines have more than 1,000 horsepower, like on the T-90 and T-72B3.
The V-55 naturally aspirated engine makes 580 hp and 2255 nm of torque.
The V-84 engine with a centrifugal supercharger makes 840hp and 3335 nm of torque.
And the most powerful variant is the V-92S2F, which is turbocharged and makes 1130hp and 3967 nm of torque.
Nee, Leute!
So ne Soundanlage gibt´s gar nicht, die den Sound von so einem Biest auch nur
annähernd wiedergibt!
wer das auch nur ein mal live erlebt hat, der weiß das! 😁
The Australian armoured artillery museum has a m4a1 Sherman tank and I'm hoping to put in a Detroit piston v12 900hp motor and 8.speed truck gear box
Did i read that correctly when they stated that the radial engine used in Shermans was a V-12.
Where can a person go to hear/see all these tanks up close? In the USA
Seems the 1500hp Leopard engine is at a whole new level over the rest of these.
0:36 This engine is opening fire!
yeah it Spit fires 😉
yes it is a masterpiece :)
As you can see, and hear, the 2nd and 3rd engines were running in stealth mode.
00:50 - The RR-Meteor was\is a variant of the Merlin, is it not? I read somewhere that in some cases, Merlin Engines were salvaged from wrecked planes and converted for Tanks! Among the mods were removal of turbos & superchargers and reversal of rotation which did require replacement of the camshafts!
@spaceace1006 hmm interesting info :)
"So today we're gonna be doing an engine swap on my miata"
I'm the show director for the Arizona Military Vehicles Collectors Club and I'm looking for anyone who owns a tank engine on a stand that would be interested in coming to my show and running their engines.
Wake the neighbours up in the morning
I am getting some diesel fumes up from my keyboard
Truck master
The Meteor tank engine, is actually a Rolls Royce Merlin, that didn't pass the test to become an aeroengine. They were then downgraded to app. 750 HP, and used amongst other as a tank engine.
Suggest you read this Ole; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Meteor
errr no the metoer is literally amerlin with no supercharger, tho that would have been good in africa
@@Wally_Wombat689 turbo diesel is much better. petrol had their place in planes though, as they are significantly lighter
I saw a Marbeck car driving around today
The Meteor is derived from the RR Merlin airplane engine.
AV 1790 was not aV 12. It was a round engine (radial)
While there was radial tank engines the AV1790 wasn't one of them.
Plus that the number of cylinders in a radial configuration is never even. It would never be a 12 cylinder
1:45 what is a 'naturally aspirated engine with RETRACTED UNITS" just askin....
5TDF (T-64A) ?
3:02 its a radial!
3:00 Pretty sure that's a rotary engine & not a V
Don't think the electric ones will sound this good...
That mtu was certified tdi engine
Is that drifting tank
You messed up on the Continental. You showed the right engine but the wrong description.
that tiger thank engine tho
The MTU is not 47 liter it's 27 liter. The RR Condor (Perkins, now owned by Catapillar is 26 liter). The MTU is 90 degree V,the Condor is 60 degree V.
From the sources i could find the MTU has 47 liters of displacement. (MB 873 Ka-501, 1100 kW (1500 PS) 2600/min, 2200 kg, 47,6 l)
@@miwove it's the MB 883 that powers it.
That in the Video was clearly a Leopard 2 12-Zyl Powerpack. This engine has 47,8l of displacement. Some sources vary on the last digit (47,6 or 47,7) but that should not really matter. Drove it myself and know that for sure from first hand. Until the newest variant the engine was never really updated. The other (second) MTU Engine was the 10-Zyl from the Leopard 1.
@@miwove That is the correct engine for the Leopard 2.
@@eugeneoreilly9356 That is the engine from the Euro-Powerpack. That was not used in Leopard 2, but in Challenger 2E for Example or the tropic Leclerc or the newest in the K2... So the Video states right here!
Is this an M60 tank engine?
Needs fitting in a Prius or a Tesla
Tank engines are, or were, refered to as power packs.
I wonder how many horsepower the trick wheels added to the engine? 00:40 I’m guessing 40hp. 😂
'
what name of tank use the engine
Ahhhhhhhh leyland :) chieftan sound damn :)
Agree, it sounded epic, however, I don't think I would want to be in a Leyland powered tank, I would want something reliable!.
What no multibank?
V-55 brutal sound of a diesel engine. only in t-54, t-55, t-62 and t-72.
That is mistake. There is no engine V-55 but W-55 (there is no letter V in russian alphabet so also no V-55 engine).
BTW , i'm not sure but T72 has different engine.
@@krzysztofadc2363 Мне наверное лучше знать, какие буквы есть в русском языке, а каких нет. Написал V-55, значит V-55
It would be great to put 1 leopard 2 engine in a car.
Where was the Famous Ford GAA V8? It was the best Tank Engine from the USA in WW2, it should have been featured in this Documentary, it was the best engine that was used in the M$ Sherman and everything heavy in WW2, sure the GM, Crislers, and even the Radial engine were used but the Ford GAA V8 was the best.
GM stands for Government Money.....Crysler means Crys alaot
The meteor engine was a Merlin engine not supercharged.
Where the hell is a glorious TD5F engine of T-64?
Chiftan👍🏽
The caption you have used for the Wright R-975 Whirlwind, as fitted to the M4 Sherman, is incorrect.
The Wright R-975 is a radial 9 cylinder not a V12
2:09
many mistakes... not correct descriptions... but sound good😊
5TDF?
Wait, they got an L60 to...run???
AV1790 is a radial aero engine...not a V12
2:54 "V12" *clearly shows a radial engine*
And that’s an r975
