NEFL-Bald Eagle Legacy Getting Restless In The Hamlet

In Northeast Florida young bald eagle Legacy, the offspring of Samson and Gabrielle, seems to be displaying behaviors that indicate the juvenile is getting ready to fledge the nest. Of course this is all normal behavior for an immature bald eagle, and not necessarily an indicator or assumption that the eagle will fly soon. It is, however, something to keep your eyes peeled for!

Love watching Legacy grow and learn. Truly amazing! 💕
I can't help but think back to my baby days. We get them ready to walk with proper shoes. They are getting Legacy ready with bits of branches for her to learn to stay stable on a perch. Just amazing to be blessed to see their little family!
Oh no Legacy wants to fledged also. Hope Legacy sticks around for a while. Samson and Gabby did a wonderful job raising Legacy. They are wonderful parents.

Do they know that its a female for sure? I thought this part of the country doesn't band their eagles or check? Also, no sibling to compare it next to and see if its noticeably larger or not, which would indicate male vs. female.
That is correct, Justin. We at the foundation, because these are wild nests and can't do blood tests, don't ever assume the gender of a bird. There is speculation, among our community, about Legacy that the young eaglet is a female. We don't discount anyone's opinions or discourage guessing as to gender (we love watching you guys take interest in these beautiful birds), but the truth is AEF won't ever assume the sex of an eagle in the wild. @@AmericanEagleFoundation Good morning and thank you for the reply back and good information. Legacy reminds me a lot of Simba from Big Bear a couple years ago in terms of behaviors but that could also be because its a single bird nest. I would have no clue either what the sex of Legacy is, but with another sibling in the nest I guess sizes can be compared. In the end all that matters really is that these birds develop healthy and are able to fledge and hopefully have a healthy and successful life.

Starting to look more like an adult eagle, with thicker wing muscles, longer feathers, and fewer downy feathers. Should be branching soon. It will be nice to see it just so she can have some relief from the mosquitoes.
Has he (?) left the nest now? I haven't seen this fella on the live cam in a while now.
Legacy flew from the nest at around 9:50 am on the morning of 04/28/2021. The NEFL community believes that Legacy was sighted a few times since then, and even tried to land in the nest at one point but the wind was too strong and Legacy flew off. So, as for now Legacy hasn't returned but these things are unpredictable in a wild nest. So stay tuned!

Yep. Flew off 28th, didn't return
no food for 20 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It makes me sad! She was pretending a branch was a fish and calling out for mom and dad 😢😫😭
