    I'M a native New Yorker and the Red Caboose is a "Classic Old School Hobby Store." It's managed to survive for 70 plus years, and many places like this have become extinct. I'll pay the extra buck because the service is great, it has the vintage vibes, and I want to see it go another 50 years! Thank you for the post!

    In my youth, 23 West 45th Street was the home of Model Railroad Equipment Corporation. It was run by Carmen Webster, and was a hangout for model railroaders in Radio, TV and show business. Probably some of the stuff you picked-over in those boxes was was gone through by my father in the 1950's to the 1970's... Another NYC legend was Polk's. Of course, you couldn't ignore AHC -America's Hobby Center, with its big ads every monyj in MR, RMC, etc.

    You should plan/do a model train store grand tour of the USA and Canada where you hit like 100 train stores! Everything was extremely overpriced, and I remember feeling super disappointed they didn't have a single train that was reasonably priced. That's really cool you went to New York to go to that hobby shop in heck you got to see Billy Joel in concert that's awesome I've only seen one of those New Haven heritage locomotives going into CT. I think they usually run up the i-95 corridor. Another one must go from Waterbury CT down the Bridgeport line. Or there is one that goes up through Hartford I believe thru Springfield Mass. I think it's neat that Connecticut wants to hold on to that railroad heritage. I mean there is a RUclips video that claims New Haven was the great railroad of its time. I know they were very meticulous of maintenance. Unlike Penn Central when they took over.

    There’s a few more heritage units that metro north has the New Haven units are owned by the Connecticut department of transportation they have 4 units painted in the New Haven scheme one of the nh units 230 is a double heritage unit since they added penn central logos below the windows. In the background of you looking at the nh units is the 1st of the mta heritage units number 208 in the fl9 beachball livery. They also have 201 wrapped in a conrail livery and 211 in a New York central lighting stripe wrap and they are planning two more units

    Too bad the FL9's have been retired from service. At least they live on on some tourist roads now.
    Im sure I've mentioned it before, but if you can do it, plan to come to the big Amherst Society train show in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Its held every January towards the end of the month.

    The Red Caboose is an interesting place. If you're looking for it they probably have it. Now will you pay top retail for it, yes but they have it. Because they usually don't budge pricewise from the high retail price marked, they have a lot of out of production stuff. You will pay for it, but again they have a lot of out of production stuff right there. It is someplace I go sort of regularly working in NYC. In the NYC area, Trainworld in Brooklyn, Ridgefield hobby in Ridgefield Park NJ and IF you want an hour plus ride, Trains and Lanes in Easton PA are all well worth visiting as well.

      I did meet the owner, he must care about the well being of people's wallets because he makes sure you won't want to buy anything. I did like looking through the store but unfortunately they didn't seem to have any Swiffers or hospitality corses in stock that day. Lol

    What if one of the few surviving London, Midland, & Scottish Railway Stanier 8Fs was donated to the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin to be put on display there? It would be fun to compare its size to the Dwight D Eisenhower Gresley A4 and the Big Boy. It would also be nice to see another British engine in the museum.

    • @SMTMainline
      @SMTMainline  9 месяцев назад

      That would be great to see

      @@SMTMainline it would also be amazing if an LMS Coronation Class became part of the National Railroad Museum too. Do you think that if that were to happen, would the Loco be affectionately known as the Flying Scotsman of the National Railroad Museum or does that title belong to Dwight D Eisenhower? It's just that the Coronation Classes were basically the LMS and William Stanier's answer to the Flying Scotsman and the A1s in general which were designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and built by the LNER.
