Brilliant music! Love love love it. Feeling very emotional as my dad was in R.U.R. and my brother was in the Royal Irish Rangers! Proud of them both. My dad is no longer with us.

That is one of the sharpest, most precise portrayals of drum majoring on the net just now. Well done all, not forgetting the Pipe Major keeping time with the foot.

Rich Cowan yes, we take our traditions from the Royal Ulster Rifles who amalgamated with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and Royal Irish Fusiliers on 1st July 1968. We lost a lost of our light traditions over the years but they are still reflected in our Bugle section, green jackets and black buttons and black/green badges of rank worn on our formal uniforms. But Band Bugles Pipes and Drums wear silver buttons. There are other traditional rifle Regiment accoutrements also. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any other questions.

Nothing Irish about soldiers in the British army. Ireland fought for hundreds of years to remove the British army from Ireland. Imagine France or Israel having German regiments and you will get the picture.

why did the irish not fight hundreds of years to to remove the norwegians from ireland or the french. they were invaded by both. or does history just start from a republican point of view.

@@biffocraig1, because trying to survive, exist, look back in history! Tenants, Tenant Farmers and Landlords! Before this Waring Chieftains, busy fighting among themselves! Brian Boru, United them to beat The vikings, then he died! The Norman came then the English, Ireland had a lot smaller population than, the Vikings and British, basically out numbered and out armed!

freebeerfordworkers I agree, but you must not forget that there are many horror stories in Ireland about historically verified atrocities carried out by the British army (the land war)/ British army veterans (black and tans) against Irish civilians. It must also be noted that although the Irish did contribute majorly to the battle of Waterloo, at that time Irish people’s rights were extremely restricted by the Penal laws, enforced often by British troops. Also the majority of Irish people had supported an effort to remove the British from Ireland in 1798, in which 30,000 Irish people, many civilians died at the hands of British troops. This is not to mention the Great famine which took place only a few decades later, during which British army troops were tasked with guarding food that was still being exported from Ireland despite the millions dying from starvation. So, although I agree with the points you have made, you just also recognise that for the reasons I have listed (along with a lot more) the British army has a mostly negative reputation in Southern Ireland.

      @@biffocraig1 They did you gombean.
They fought the Vikings for over 200 years and eventually destroyed their power in a series of Battles such as Glenmama, Tara, and Clontarf in 1014,
They fought the Norman's and later the centralised English administration for over 400 years until eventual defeat at kinsale in 1601, and still fought again in the 1640s, 1690s, 1798, 1803, 1840s, 1860s and organised from then on to eventually gain a measure of independence in 1922. Learn your history before you comment.
Aside from all that a fine display, brave to a man I'm sure, to be a catholic or protestant makes a man no better or worse. Many from the south have served in this regiment. Most of European powers had Irish regiments at some point, a fact we should be very proud of.
