  • Walt Harris is there for all the thrills and spills. He;s backed up by Jerry Seltzer at track side.
    The program is from the summer of 1973. I checked with KTVU 2 and their transmitter was replaced with a better one in the summer of 1973.

      My Dear Miss Agnes: Neither Sowenski nor the Warriors skated in ROLLER DERBY in the 70s. They skated in that mickey mouse league, a/k/a roller games. Besides that, Judy Arnold was the star female skater for the Warriors, not Sowenski.

    Thanks for the info. I'm glad you have a better copy. I taped this off a satellite channel many years ago. This version is better quality than my original VHS tape. Future roller derby copies, when possible, will be added in the HD 1080p format. I can do more this way as long as the original source is in good shape.

      And, thus, the problem. What they call "the Derby" nowadays, is an absolute joke and not worth watching. I can only imagine what the likes of Calvello, Weston, Vallow, Dunn, Lydia Clay, Kathy Reid, Rosetta Saunders, Delores Tucker, or Margie Laslow would have done against these "pretty girls".

      Amen! Most are concerned with some "catchy" name. Plus, they skate on a FLAT TRACK and still can't even stand up! Ridiculous scores in the 200s. Whoever heard the like? Skaters like Weston, Calvello, Dunn, Lydia Clay, Reed--just to name a few--would mop the floor with these clowns!

      So true!! The roller derby skaters today cannot match the talents of Joannie Weston, Delores Tucker, Sherry Erich, Jan Vallow, Charlie O’Connell, Bill Groll, JoJo Statford, Bob Hein, BJ Petersen, Carol Meyer, Tony Roman, Francine Cochu, Diane Syverson, Skinny Minnie Gwen Miller, Patsy Delgado, etc. They’re the true icons of roller derby and cannot be replaced...God Bless them all ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.

    Just wonderin', when did the pioneers change their uniforms???

    • @georgegong6813
      @georgegong6813 3 года назад

      Late 1973 before Jerry Seltzer's IRDL folded. The claim were these uniforms were well worn though only 2 years old to me. Still looked in decent condition after all they were reused a few years later. Only a few uniforms looked a bit tattered.

    • @donniehagy5125
      @donniehagy5125 Год назад

      I remember their original uniforms (I think they were either blue and white or blue and grey). Then (for quite a while) the wore the red/white/and blue uniforms, before going to that garish yellow and red.

Though after watching this game I was somewhat impressed with Candy Jones....

      @@MrPete60441 Yes she was just OK for a new rookie mind you. However Sherry Erich, Rose Duran, Catherine Shaw, many got the best of her over the years. Sandy Dunn tried using her as a backup later on the Jolters didn't do all that well there either. Very overplayed if you ask me. Candy Jones on the other hand was spunky though she really put on the pounds later made a gallant return with the Jolters as well. Though being off for awhile & that weight didn't help. I always wondered @ the time period of this game where Darlene Forbes, Janet Earp, & Sue Neibauer were? Heard recently Candy Jones pass away sadly. May she RIP. Debbie Cho as well I believe passed some time ago. May she also RIP

      The old Roller Derby may had taken a bit of liberties if you will. Though sorry the current game does nothing for me @ all. Takes skill to skate on a banked track. Even to perform some to the stunts these Skaters did. Sorry what I've seen on RUclips current Skaters always do so out of bounds of the track. Most stumble & very difficult to make out the Jammer. Finally the play stops way too much with too many rules. Meant to be a simple game period. Yes this Roller Derby not all the rules may had been enforced for sake of television. Though try viewing earlier Derby games which can also be viewed on RUclips of the past, yes you will see real skill. Oh I also roller, incline, & yes ice skate as well.

    This was one of the poorest games I've ever seen skated by Bomber men. They were completely disorganized; instead of O'Connell running his mouth on the infield, he should have been more involved skating wise. They looked pitiful.
