Saw my first Roller Derby game on TV in 1958. Was sorry to see it deteriorate to the level of pro wrestling with manufactured story lines. Thanks for the video, Tom.
I remember when James Paul was a rookie starting out on the SF Bay Bombers and was happy to see his progress through the IRSL years with him leading his own teams. When the prior IRDL was in existence, I always wished that he was on "my" Midwest Pioneers. A very talented skater and exciting to watch.
Thanks so much for sharing your story. I also watched him when he was a rookie on the Bombers. He was a terrific skater. I met him at Joan Weston’s training center in Hayward years later. He was not only a great skater, but a very good guy. 😀
They allowed Joan Weston and Bill Groll from the Bay Bombers to skate with the Eastern Express. Also, they added Diane Syverson and Sean Atkinson, from the Southern Stars, to the Midwest Pioneers lineup.
I never saw this footage.... Never saw Groll or Weston skate for the Xpress. Very cool indeed. The only thing is the game skipped around... I didn't like that. Seems like we missed stuff.
You're speaking of Bill Hill! He was a lot of fun to work with as was Dave Eddy. He was also very supportive and gave me some good advice which I appreciated as it was my first time.
A very AVERAGE skater who the derby desperately tried to get over as a heel. One of the worst. No charisma, no character--basically all hat and no cowboy.
I just read on the Internet that Dave Eddy died February 13, 2022. He was a terrific announcer and a very nice man. My condolences to his family.

Wow. 1958. Loved those vintage games. Good to hear from you, Duane!

You are correct in stating that this was the last game the IRSL skated. :(
@@NYRNGR1 Thank you. I appreciate the confirmation!😃

Odd seeing Joan Weston with that number on her uniform. Thanks for posting.
You are very welcome 😀

My mistake whole game showed

Hi Mark. This is all I have…parts of the 2nd period and subsequent periods. Thank you for watching, Mark.😊
Do you have the second half of this game. Thanks for posting
Hi Larry, The first period is missing and the rest of the video shows parts of periods 2 through 8. Thanks so much for watching! 😍
The coach co-announcer sounds like a wrestling heel!
