Synopsis:
Ray is a young wunderkind inventor living in Victorian England. His life is turned upside down when he receives a special package hailing from the United States, sent by his grandfather, Lloyd Steam. The package contains a device called a Steam Ball, a device so powerful that it can drive any machine that requires steam with a nearly limitless amount of energy.
Ray is instructed to not let the Steam Ball fall into the wrong hands, which include the mighty O'Hara Foundation, who desperately want to bring the Steam Ball back into their control so they can achieve their less than noble goals.
He will need to use every bit of his brilliance in order to dodge the countless goons that are sent to snatch the device from him. It will be a battle between good and evil, a battle for redemption, a battle for the future!

As someone who works around high-pressure lines all day, I can confirm that you can't have too many pressure gages.
Better yet: how many arms do you have?
@@camjenkins I work in a factory and sooner or later it will fail and youll wish you had a pressure gage for everything so youll be able to troubleshoot.

Steam Boy were one of the best modern anime with great mechanical details.
Truly impressive.

They really don't make much of those anymore. Just like Karas, one of the only kind.
@@chaos3088 Well for one, anime movies are always going to be more detailed than shows, and two, as somebody who's watched several hundred of them, I can assure you that there have been more than a handful in the last 20 years, you just need to find them.

@@halogo117 yeah, it lives purely on its aesthetics. basically the only steampunk anything i've ever seen that i liked.
The fact that we had to wait 16 years for Katsuhiro Otomo to follow up his landmark _Akira_ with this was sort of criminal- but totally worth it!!

3d modeling looks shit in anime 100% of the time. Bezerk is literally unwatchable due to this.
@@everydaychemistry6231 Def not 100%. It's just used as a means to cut corners a lot of the time rather than to be used in ways that wouldn't be as effective in a 2d space. Studio orange is a great example of cgi in anime that's done incredibly well. Also, I'm sure there are plenty of anime you've watched that use cgi without you even realizing, like demon slayer to produce dynamic camera angles in their fight scenes.

Actually the team design that scene had blueprints posted on their original homepage(which was defuncted in 2008), that 80 gears on the right hand are supposed to work as micro controller for controlling the AAA turrets around the steam fortress.

Lol, this is around the time 3d was being adopted into anime. ALOT of anime got it way WRONG because the 3d element was detailed and textured while the 2d was cell shaded and flat. This, however blended it way better than others of the time.

Edit: Don't get me wrong guys, I love the movie, and I love steampunk. I just think what they did was too crazy to the point of being ridiculous any destroys any suspension of disbelief

Watched this movie JUST for the aesthetics. The plot is mid.

Are we sure all those gauges should have lost pressure then equalized all together?
If the guy who made it was dramatic enough to make part of the control systems out of a pipe organ, then he was probably dramatic enough to hook everything up so that the gauges synchronized during certain actions.
All the gauges went down to zero then they all topped out. Could you imagine the panic across the whole city this guy is causing? People washing dishes and taking showers just lose all water pressure, then get blasted. All the lights go out, then every bulb in the city pops. Transformers on electric poles arc and explode across the whole city. All for one song

序盤の主人公の家で実験器具を見た人たちが「何だこれは・・・見たことのない数値と単位だ」って言ってるシーンが好き。
お父さんとおじいちゃんがとんでもないもの作ったんだなぁっていうワクワクがすごい。
で、実際終盤でとんでもないものが出てきて「嘘やん・・・」ってなるのが良かった。

there are 2 ways when 3d modeling in anime is good
1) when you can't tell it apart from drawn frames
2) when it does become a little visible but the scene is so complex that you kind of need it anyway

馬鹿みたいに複雑なメカと言う点では素晴らしい。ただ操作考えるとチェルノブイリ起きそうなぐらいワケワカメ。
車のエンジン点火を全部手動でやってるようなカオス具合で、欲を言えばもう少し機能美とか、付箋や○○禁止みたいな表示が欲しくなる。

I love the steampunk style. There is a great mix of fantasy and science fiction, but it is still grounded in reality. I would love to see some real steampunk technology be made, even if it was just for show.
