    18months ago i got out of an extremely toxic relationship. I didnt even know what the term narssissum meant or gaslighting, manipulation, and all the other extreme toxic traits these people hurt others with but i knew what phsycal abuse was when that started but by then my soul was so damaged and my mind so confused i began to see a beating as a relief because the following week while i was bruised and he felt guilt and shame and was nice to me. I have self sabotaged every attempt someone has made to connect with me since leaving that relationship to the point of having nobody at all in my life because of my own guilt and shame i seemed to have inherited from my ex's bad behaviour. The pain of realising how nieve and trusting i was and that i let it all happen because i never knew i had the right to say no to anyone i loved or that my feelings mattered due to my childhood is as bad if not worse than the 7 year relationship. I burst into tears at evey one of your videos the moment you ask the audience or an individual a question.

    I’m working through some trauma right now and I spontaneously came up with the idea of having boundaries with myself. And being clear in those boundaries so I can focus on what builds me up and healthy good feelings. It’s been a really big shift for me. So crazy how wisdom waits for when you’re ready for it.

    • @JulienHimself
      @JulienHimself  2 года назад +26

      Nice! And yes, wisdom wait for when you're ready for it... BUT you can accelerate that process in order to be "ready" MUCH sooner! 🙏

      How do you enforce your own boundaries upon yourself? Say you focused on what drags you down and gives you unhealthy feelings, what do YOU do about it?

    • @Wingedmagician
      @Wingedmagician 2 года назад +10

      @@bennoreuter4393 When I get anxious and lazy and unmotivated. I recognize bad things and feelings as part of my moment to moment experience. Your motivation issues are driven by that sense of what’s bad and good and what you want and don’t want to do or pursue or commit to. You need the boundary to be clear and you need to believe in it.
      I enforce the boundary when I’m stuck and avoiding and worrying by realizing moment to moment how I’m being affected by negative emotions and fears. Maybe it’s about the thing you have to do or something else about your life you’re ruminating about. And by remembering I don’t have to believe or be motivated by whatever the negative thing is in the moment that I’m experiencing/thinking. I can enforce a boundary by working on my goals and focusing on what I want instead.
      Btw it’s almost impossible to enforce a boundary unless you are very clear what that boundary is that that you believe it’s worth enforcing, if you believe you don’t want to do the work and that it’s better to avoid then that’s what you’ll do because the boundary isn’t clear or worth it.
      Hope that helps. I have the feeling though that this advice is more personal to my process and issues. I know it’s a long message but I probably would have written that in my journal anyways so there you go lol

    I was trying to tell my sister about helping my own depression through changing my thoughts and she kept telling me how it was no way to heal my depression myself if it was real. I was doing so much better until that day. I was silent a lot of her rant but she just kept trying to push it on me that it was no way. Over time she made me feel awful and I've struggled to get back where I was every since. That's been about a month ago.
    For her when she seen me making progress she wanted to bring me back down again instead of changing herself. She has depression and i know logically she is projecting how she feels onto me because she feels she can't but I've struggled to let her negativity go and continue my own growth from where i was. It was a serious setback.

      I hate to say this, because it may have the wrong connotation, but this is all a "game." Your sister has her own issues and she isn't where you are yet, so best not to share what you have found with her. You're on the right path, she isn't there yet to realize the truth of things. You need to keep going from where you left off and not let anything get in your way. These are all tests, and the quicker you realize you can control your own mind and reactions, and thus completely transform how reality actually looks, the quicker your "test subjects" in life will go away.

I started watching Julian's videos way back when he was with Owen and Max, straight RSD! I really enjoyed Julian's videos because they are a little more spiritual . I encourage everyone to watch these and give them a chance, really give it a try and put in just a little work. Any start is a good one, bodies in motion tend to stay that way. That's physics baby! Just got to get that ball rolling. Much love to Julian and anyone watching these videos and reading these comments. Keep up the good work!

      You sure it happened because you started to grow and not something like started ignoring the social norms? Because it sound a bit of extreme reaction if even strangers judged you. Because I can understand people who knew you would get alienated from you when you start growing, but random people who did not know you before also reacted negatively? Seems like there is something more than just growth that did it

    • @Ninjeto

      Strangers judge you by appearance so I'm guessing it was by the way I dress or high confidence level im not sure why people feel the need to dissect me constantly even you felt the need to reply to my comment which proves my point a little further.

      @marsius7909 8 месяцев назад

      @@Ninjeto Well, in my case, what you described felt a little extreme, so I just wanted to say that it might be not only your growth that causing it, but also something else. But of course it's up to you to pin it down if you want to pin it down. You can ask about it somebody about it or try altering your behavior or appearance, not to be dishonest with yourself, but as a way to experiment and see if reactions from people would change.

    It was harsh to hear that I'm a doormat for my family. I knew it was happening in my head, but I rationalize it as my own choices. I agreed to my obligations. But now. Months or years later, I'm tired of doing all that I do, but no one else seems to know how.
    Ever been hired for a low level job, but when you see something needs done you just do it? Then, as time passes, you realize that you're just expected now to do the extra work without getting the extra pay for it? That's what's happening, and I don't see a way out of it because I DID agree to do my part...

    Idk the trajectory of arguments would have one thinking that something like an ras is an obstacle, and I think at one point you do claim as much, and maybe even have ppl thinking these processes are completely useless. I'm sure however that if you asked any neuroscientist, they would tell you many evolutionary and psychological benefits to these systems.

    I am this low self esteem person that would see the shirt compliment as making fun of me. But mostly I still know they meant it as a compliment and it's my RAS, yet I can't 'move' to that interpretation and I fall back into the negative quickly. What do I do?

    • @3rdfriend

      The "movement" happens when you let go. So there is no easy answer to your question, but generally your problem is (and this will happen all your life) you know how to do better but did not emotionally understand. There are many paths to change this.
      Mental way: Write a list thing you did in your life. What did you accomplish? What is good on you and what could you improve? You can also ask other people about this - especially if you dont know them. With time your emotional side will join. It is all about breaking old patterns.
      Emotional healing way: Take the step further and investigate where the misinterpretation of yourself comes from. This has a lot to do with healing trauma, maybe meditating, feeling your body (not your head), find good coaches and most importantly just SEE, don't JUDGE. Do not judge feelings. If new unconfortable stuff is coming up - just tell yourself "interesting".
      Also pay people money to give you advice. What I gave to you lowers my perspective of myself (but I take this as practise, don't worry) and it is unlikely someone else will do it who can actually help you. Because they tend to have the same perspective as you (like Julien said).
      And: You can do it. You can heal. :) Good luck!

    High self-esteem creates just as bad if not worse blindspots. Narcissism and ego-centrism are running rampant in society.

      People with narcissistic personality disorder have terrible self-esteem tho.. contrary to popular belief. True self-esterm doesn't lead people to be toxic. Narcissists are some of the most toxic people out there

    • @mord0

      @@HansenFT different types of narcissism. Self-esteem to not be confused with self-worth. Self-esteem is one’s perceived estimate of one’s value in relation to others (egoism) and self-worth is more of a inner-knowing of one’s inherent worth and essence. One often compensates for low self-worth with high self-esteem behaviors which only serves to mask the issue.

      Self-esteem as is meant here is NOT narcissism or fake confidence meant to mask insecurities. It is true self-worth!

    • @mord0
      @mord0 2 года назад +2

      @@oliverunleashed9515 one must ask himself: who is doing the evaluation of my self? This is why positive affirmations fail so often: is it trying to insert a narrative, implying another one exists. Letting go of the need for high esteem will ultimately leave you with desiring less and noticing what is already here: your authentic, true self. This self is buried beneath stories, biases, attachments, desire. In short, the one desiring high self esteem confirms the core belief that one is not worthy. It’s like trying to trim a weed without plucking out the root.

      @@mord0 Self-esteem is confidence in ones own worth or abilities. If you are forcing behaviours and overcompensating, this is low self-esteem behaviour because you don't have much confidence in your own worth or abilities and therefore feel the need to make up for it. Narcissism is someone who doesn't actually love themselves or feel confident and so they try to manipulatively make up for it by forcing themselves to be a certain way e.g. overly loud, overly controlling, overly dominant (domineering), etc.
