This album, "...and Justice for All", is, to me, the pinnacle of Metallica, Every song on it is amazing both musically and lyrically. Pretty sure y'all have done "One" and "Blackened" but you still need "...and Justice for All", "Frayed Ends of Sanity", "The Shortest Straw" and "Eye of the Beholder"
For me personally, Puppets is better, but this is so close behind it.
Yes it is a great 3 piece album. 2 guitars and drums. Jason got screwed because the other guys were still morning the tragic death of Cliff and they turned down the bass on it.
Don’t forget “To Live Is To Die”
Agreed with Justice...Ride was My first introduction 2 them...Masters was My Favorite until Justice came out.👍😁👍
I believe it was their most progressive also.
It has the best bass playing ever, uh, um wait...🤣
Shortest Straw from AJFA is a banger, hell the whole album is great.
Shortest straw is insane. Lyrics are amazing lolol
@@andrewmcgill9544 the solo too🥰
@@cosminblaga5117 My favourite tallica solo

"Chunkiness of Musicality" is a phrase that must be embraced now, maybe a T-shirt, just awesome!
Yes!!
I'm gonna trademark it and make the shirt heheh
I've always said crunchy, but chunky is great too.
Crunch pedal
@@adampowell5986 there's a difference between crunchy and chunky.
musicality can't be crunchy, but sounds can be.
chunkiness of musicality refers not to the sound, but to the fullness of the score.
crunchy describes a sound, but has no reference to musicality.
You can’t go wrong with any song from this album or any of the previous 3 albums. All bangers 💯
They are playing this song in their current tour.. Sounded pretty damn good !! such a killer song... Rock on..
They'd played it quite a few times in 2019
Heard it at aftershock 2021 in Sacramento CA!
Literally a killer song
Easily my favourite album of theirs.
Mine too
yeah and 99% of people dont even know it exists because they have only heard the black album and consider themselves metallica fans
yup. The best
@@liamsguitaring2296 you're right about that. I saw them on the And Justice tour in 1989 and there was 6,000 people in the auditorium. Then I saw them 3 years later on the black album tour and there was 60,000 people in a football stadium.
What are you smoking? 99% of people who know MetallicA have never heard. ...And Justice For All? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Well it’s not difficult at all to predict that Lex would like this one but I had a feeling before I even clicked play that Brad would too. Besides the lyrics which are pretty much always great with any Metallica song I felt like the cadence of the rhythm and lead guitar would be about right for him. It’s a very heavy song but at the same time it has a slow pace and sort of mellowness to it. Brad doesn’t seem to care for that blistering fast stuff and it’s not that. Anyway, if you wanna take things in a little bit different direction I’d recommend a one hit wonder from the mid 90’s by the band Hum called “ Stars”.
Stars ✨ is a great song….never gets enough play.
Justice is the most amazing album, lyrically and musical it’s a masterpiece. “Frayed ends of sanity” and “Eye of the beholder” are the best examples of amazing melody and words!!!
Love Lex's smile as she listens. The 2 of you are how I am listening to Metallica. Lex is how I feel on the inside while Brad is how I look on the outside.
this is one of those albums where you can listen from start to finish without skipping a song.
I do skip "One" tho. Overplayed.
Yup, but I feel the same way about MoP.
Agree. I think it’s the Metallica album that I listen to the most.
I love watching Lex rock out when she listens to these metal songs. Hey Lex, give us the famous Lex "ooooh".
the greatest thing about Lex's reactions is that she's NOT "listening" to the songs...she's FEELING them. She was saying on another reaction to (I think) Iron Maiden, explaining to Brad (and everyone else) how she doesn't hear the lyrics a lot of the time because she's so lost in the music. And she actually seemed a bit apologetic about it. I had to leave a comment to let her know she's doing it RIGHT. She couldn't be doing it MORE right.
FEEL the music first. Especially with Metal. Go back later and read the lyrics if you have to.
@@philpennington826 I agree, Lex is in the music zone while Brad is trying to pick apart the lyrics and the meaning.
@@philpennington826 you can do both
"To Live is to Die" should be the next Metallica song from this album! 🤘 (My favorite album from them personally)
To live is to die and then Orion!
You'll probably hear everyone arguing about the difference between old school Metallica and their new work. Their first four albums are arguably the best for fans of their hard and heavy thrash sound. Kill'em All. Ride the Lightning. Master of Puppets. And Justice for All. People who grew up listening to these albums were understandably disappointed with the turn that Metallica took toward mainstream approval with the release of the Black Album. There are obviously great songs in their newer work, but they seem to be the exception, whereas with their older work (pre black album) pretty much every track was considered gold. Of course, we're talking about people who grew up in the age where the only way you could even hear Metallica was if you owned their records or cassette tapes. When your options are limited, believe me... you wore them out. This was a time when you didn't buy an album for one track and listen to that one song over and over. You listened to side A then turned the tape over and listened to side B, flip and continue. Essentially, the entire album became a work of art unto itself.
(laughing) You just reminded me of my best friend and I (who were definitely in the "we like the first four albums" camp - big MoP and AJFA fans especially) eagerly awaiting the first play of Enter Sandman on our local equivalent to MTV. That opening soft guitar was good, the thumping drums followed by the matching grinding guitar had us grinning like giddy schoolgirls.... and then the radio-friendly hook (dun-dada-dundun, repeat ad nauseum) kicked in and our smiles were replaced with expressions of shock followed by sheer disgust. We literally turned to each other after maybe 10 seconds of that hook and simultaneously said "they sold out". This was a band that had never made a video before "One" and insisted on making that video a brilliant bit of art. Enter Sandman just killed Metallica for both of my buddy and I. Neither of us never bought another Metallica album after the first four. The band had pretty much died for us in that moment. I've never had my love of a band extinguish in a moment like that before or since. It was a weird moment.
Admittedly, that song in particular and some of their later ones have grown on me over the years but honestly, it's been over 30 years and I still only have the old school stuff on my custom playlists (and my musical tastes are all over the place). I've seen them live once since the black album dropped and they put on a polished show but yeah, they felt super commercial to me (I found myself mostly just tolerating the newer stuff) and it was really the audience getting into the older stuff that made the show genuinely good for me.
That being said, I'm mostly just indifferent and disinterested in their post-... and Justice material. Their only newer song that I absolutely hate is their version of Whiskey in the Jar. I kind of get what they were trying to do but I just can't stand what they produced (and I'm a metalhead who loves the original song - I've downed many a pint while singing it with the crowd in a pub).
This song played at the 1991 Moscow concert was lit! That slow groove had the crowd moving like water - a litteral/figurative sea of people
Personally like the three albums before Justice more, though I dig how heavy AJFA is, I just liked Metallica better when they were fast and thrash. Dyers Eve is a favourite though.
I'm curious why people act like all old Metallica was thrash when in my opinion it wasn't 🤔. Half of ride the lightning I wouldn't term thrash
@@metallicafan416 umm
hard for me to pick a fave. my top 3 could be AJFA, RTL, or MOP in any order at any given time. kill em all 4th although it's also pretty damn great
Justice is the most pissed off album
@@MetalKillsRap2 agree- it wasn't just aggression - it was anger.... Cliff died, and I think it fueled this album.
The drum beat over the opening guitar riffs is brilliant, with Lars playing this FLOOR-KICK-FLOOR-FLOOR-KICK-KICK-FLOOR beat that is simple, but just bloody MASSIVE sounding.
I love Brad's smile while reading the lyrics. This gives me hope for humanity.
And Justice for All is such an underrated album. You should check out “One” it’s off the same album
Everyone adores that album tho! But it’s maybe too little known
Not the video version though…..
@@Pingkonk it gets overlooked a lot of times. It’s right after Master of Puppets and before the Black album.
@@-Garviel_Loken- . Wasn't Garage Days before Justice?? I think I'm right. I think that was how they broke in Newsted.
Just saying whatever we want huh? No one underrated any of their 80s albums
Eye of the beholder!
I just need a video of Lex head banging the whole way through of “Dyers Eve” now
4:42 when i heard her mention "bass" i immediately cracked up
Discovered Metallica when I was 10 or 11. “One” was all over MTV. I was a skater so really all I was listening to was DRI. Needless to say this album began my Metallica journey. AJFA remains close to my heart because of how I discovered them and the nostalgia attached.
Dirty Rotten Imbecels one of my favorite bands.
@@NathanCline12-21 Suicidal Tendencies and D.R.I. are like THE skater bands
Been waiting for this. Justice is my favorite Metallica album, and this is my favorite song from it, really wanted to see how Brad&Lex responded to this one.
Same here! Whole album is vicious 🔥
Been asking for this!! Just wish it was the live in Moscow
They’re so good live, but I’m always down for studio on first reactions.
You have to add 1991, they have a video from 2019 too (:
Shortest Straw from this same album would be a great reaction!
Whole album is filled with chunky hard hitting riffs.🤘
This is my favorite album by them..every song jams 🎸🥁🎶
I loves Lars on the drums in this album. By far his best work.
If you like the cadence of this song then you’ll probably like Shortest Straw off of the same album. It has a similar structure.
I have been watching you for about a couple of weeks now and finally subscribed. At sixty years old you guys got me back into music again. You are also entertaining and fun. Thanks and keep up the great work.
this album IS their best! Shortest Straw off this album is also chunkyy
Shortest straw has been pulled for you!
I love that both you guys found stuff to like about this song. Had a mate whose pub band used to cover it back in the day and I'd be the one-man moshpit

'Orion' and 'The Call of Ktulu' by Metallica🤘🤘🤘
Brad doesn´t like instrumentals, that why they haven´t reacted to them yet. He is always analyzing the lyrics, he wants to find out the message. He can´t feel the music like Lex does.
@@maxis5650 well he can't get them wrong if there isn't any. Lol
Harvestor of Sorrow is Lars Ulrich's finest moment. The Justice album is basically his pinnacle as a drummer. He gets a lot of shit. I saw him live many times. Lots of energy, a little sloppy, his double kick was like a flan but he brings it. If you play with heart, I'll forgive you, just rock
Disagree. The black album has perfect drum writing and tone. It’s still sampled today.this album sounds dated heavily
@@chadphelps5809 To each his own. The black album may have better production, but I still prefer his playing on Justice. He was really pushing his abilities on that album. I feel the beats are simpler on The Black Album...And Justice For All from the guitars to the drums it's a much more technical album. Which is better: high technique or laying back and grooving. It's whatever the song needs is the right answer I suppose.
@@neakapla well if you want technical drumming no Metallica is what you listen to. If you listen for perfectly written parts that serve the song wherever I may roam the unforgiven sad but true don’t tread on me all have perfect drumming that serves the song
I love Lars’ drumming in this song.
@@chadphelps5809 I never claimed that Lars was the pinnacle of technical drumming. He's nowhere near that. But I like that in the Justice album it seemed like he was pushing the boundaries of what he's capable of.
Garage Days, Revisited hardly gets mention because it was just an EP, but it kicked ass
I seen brad after dark...i hope you guys are still together...your such a perfect couple...and have been put through alot online....love your couple content...
*This whole album is fire! This came out over 30 years ago and yet every song, lyrically, applies to so much of the crazy shit going on in the world today..*
Human nature never changes, sadly.
Harvester of Sorrow-AHHH!!! Check out more prog-metal songs from this album - And Justice For All; Eye of the Beholder; Frayed Ends of Sanity; Shortest Straw; To Live is To Die 🤘
Man, I hate that I found you guys so late. After Brad said something about the cadence being like a rap song, I now need someone to cover this as a rap style song. Think there is a lot of potential there.
This song Live Seattle '89 is the coolest thing you'll ever see from Metallica (and The Thing That Should Not Be, same concert). I've been a fan since the 80's.
The energy and sound is insane.
So glad I lived trhough the 90's music explosion!
Brad- Lets get into the chunky ones on the black album- MY FRIEND OF MISERY, THE GOD THAT FAILED, OF WOLF AND MAN all bangers you will like.
I agree 110%.
my favorites are "kill em all" and "ride the lightning" i prefer the raw aggressive sound but best is a matter of personal taste. experience the music and appreciate it all for what it is.
Spot on , I like kill em all the best
This tour was my first concert ever. It was amazing. Grand Forks ND 1989
If everyone acted as Lex we would all be living in paradise. I love her
love yall's channel!! If Brad likes this song than he'd definitely like "sad but true" off of the black album.
You guys should do some more live reactions from Metallica. Like Seattle '89 or San Diego. The energy goes through the headphones and shakes your core
Yes that Seattle show was amazing
I think it makes the videos so much more interesting that you guys don’t always see eye to eye on songs and lex seems to be a touch more In tune with the musicality and feel of it all where as brad seems to be more interested in the literal content of the song, lyrics beat that sorta stuff
Check their live version in Seattle 1989 it’s one of their best
My buddy and I went to see them live on this tour, I was so hammered by the time we got there I only recall glimpses of them playing, I mainly recall when they played ONE. If you could see that live it is incredible the volume level is so intense that you think the Helicopter sound that there really is a heli flying right over you. We had good seats about the 3rd row and you could see the sweat on them as they just rocked it out.
My second favorite Metallica album, first being Ride the Lightning. Though I do think the mastering on AJFA was so much better on the original releases way back when. The album sounded so clean even when played super loud.
Justice was the first brand new Metallica album I bought as a young lad. Still current lyrical topics and every song is a banger 💪
‘The riff is chugging’….fuck yeah girl, you got it!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
When Brad smiles that much you know it's a good song. It is a hell of a good cadence.
I love her. And him, too. But mostly her.
She is spot on. Someone give her a dollar every time someone says "Chunkiness of the Instrumentality".
Brad likes this metal song because the way James delivers the vocals/lyrics reminds Brad of rap music? Oh boy..... I love how Lex just FEELS the music and appreciates everything about the song (not just the lyrics).
Yes!!! My favorite song by them.
I really think Lex would love doing the instrumental trio of The Call of Ktulu, Orion, and one off this album To Live Is To Die. I think it'd hit her in her feels.
*chef's kiss
Honestly in love with lex. I need to find a Lex in my life. And very stoked brad liked this song!
Music of my youth!! We waited forever for this to come out, we skipped school to line up to get it…. We were blown away by it!! If you love the album you gotta check out the documentary on the making of this album…. Totally worth watching guys!!
I have been listening to this album since it has came out. Always found the lyrics to be about someone stuck deep in addiction. Alcohol/drugs, Harvester being the drug of choice.
I love what you said about not knowing what's coming next with this song. Badassery is what's coming next. Every thing about this song. As an '80s girl, I Love How You Love Metallica!! \m/
Got this on cassette when I was like 8 years old, loved this tape back in the day but other than One I hadn't heard any of these songs in 25 years.
Yes this is their best album. The riffs, the solos, the anger top notch here
& Hetfelds voice had the perfect amount of gravelly-ness to it
I went about 15 years at least without listening to AJFA, I remembered the heaviness of it, but I listened to the entire album this past spring, and I had forgotten how rhythmic it was.. especially this song.
This was the album that got me into heavy metal. I bought it for "One" because that blew me away on MTV. Then the fucking album changed my brain from where my brain was then to where my brain was just after. But I've heard a lot of music since then.
Allegaeon “Proponent for Sentience III “
Allegaeon “Gray Matter Mechanics “
Hell yeah. More Metallica!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Yes, it is. It’s the first album I listened to and it’s still my favorite. I can’t help but compare it to everything they’ve done before and after.
A reminder to Brad & Lex. A full album reaction to Master of Puppets was promised months ago. 2 songs left, The Thing That Should Not Be and Orion. Waiting patiently.
Drove to new Jersey from upstate NY to get this album when it first came out. Soo worth it, METALLICA were like God's back then 😈🤘
The breakdown after the lead always pumps me up!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Lex nailed that Sorrow at the end!!
This was on the playlist when I was in the Upper Sangin Valley, Afghanistan 2008-09. A must listen before going on any Patrol
This Album was in my opinion was Metallica's masterpiece
I don't know if they have but I would like to see them react to sad but true that has always been one of my favorite songs.
Gotta check out Metalcore!! Killswitch Engage-End of Heartache/Bullet for My Valentine-Tears Don't Fall/Trivium-Kirusute Gomen. These 3 bands have the best songs in the metalcore genre to me. Metalcore takes elements of old school metal from the 80s Metallica era that Lex likes so much. I love it. It usually has aggressive verses and melodic choruses. It has growly, cookie monster vocals and singable choruses.
I LOVE Lex's reactions but there is something so adorable about Brad. Like no one should ever hurt him and he should be protected at all costs.
Pause ...
The chunkiness of the instrumentality!
1st Metallica song I ever heard... back in 1990. I had to hear more...🤘🔥
"Chunkiness of Musicality"--Lex. Helluva a description, but would look great on a Brad & Lex Shirt. ;)
So much power in this jam, great choice, great reaction!
Your bringing back lots of memories for this old metal head! 🔥🤘♥️
What makes their old records so good is they were pissed off at everything. Now their rich not so mad anymore. But still legendary.
You two must be right over the target with all the haters leaving nasty comments on all your videos. Keep up the good work
This is my 2nd favorite Metallica song! Love the reaction guys!
Been a Metallica and Pantera fan for ages, and never thought about the Similar Vibe... But I can hear what you mean Lex 🤘... Sharp
Enjoy the videos, you guys are TOO funny!
Fun fact: In the writing phase of Metallica's heavy metal classic, Harvester Of Sorrow previously went through a series of working titles, also combining negative emotions with types of conveyances.

* Dirigible Of Disgust
* Olympic Luge Of Racism

This was always one of my favorite metallica songs, the whole justice album was great.. you guys should check out this song live in moscow '91, great performance
One of my very favorite songs! Love it! PLEASE also react to the lyric video of Spit Out the Bone. It’s newer…but it’s important. 🙏🤘
that riff before the vocals kick in
"The chunkiness of the instrumentality."...love it!
I have this album.
One of my all-time songs!
They literally played 6 killer riffs within the first couple of minutes of the song!
Hard to believe I was in high school when this came out. I remember a lot of people knocked it at the time and said it was their 4th best album and called them sell-outs for doing a music video (one). Over the years it has become my favorite, the entire albums brings it.
Just saw them play 2 different sets on 2 different days at aftershock in Sacramento. They were bad ass. They Are playing in Florida on November 4th in Fort Lauderdale and at Rockville in Daytona on the 11th and another day. Do yourself a favor and go see them
The mixing of Jason Newsted's bass are not good. But there are some great songs on the album. Jason recorded his bass parts alone in the studio with only the assistant engineer present. Producer Flemming Rasmussen said that James Hetfield were not interested in singing but only wanted a hard vibe
One of my favorites on this album. Live show was 🔥 My first mosh pit. 😃 Wish I could find my shirt. Bought the same one Lars has on in the One video.
Liked before even watching it haha This is gonna be good! 🤘🤘
