    I am a commercial pilot (737) and I can tell you that the X-Plane flight model is exaggerated. The 737 is very stable and great in crosswind conditions (much better than the A320). I don't know why the Zibo 737 behaves like that because on paper the X-Plane flight model should be superior to P3D. Looking at this video though I would say that P3D is too stable and X-Plane is too unstable. The real world 737 is somewhere in the middle. There is a payware 737 available for X-Plane, maybe try that instead?
    Great video though and great flying in difficult circumstances.

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  6 лет назад +35

      Great, thanks for your input! It could indeed be the Zibo's flight model, maybe when trying a payware 737, of which the IXEG 737 Classic is probably the best option, it will indeed be more close to reality, I will try that next time.

      X-Plane has always been too strong in turbulences and windshear... You should lower those settings a bit

    • @twkster1
      @twkster1 6 лет назад +37

      XPlane's modeling of gusts and shear are a little exagerated. HOWEVER the comparison was not a fair one. By his own admission there was no similar setting for shear level in the PMDG. What he set (not knowing better) was a shear of 30 knots! That is why the windshear warning was blaring constantly...
      Did you note how much the speed trend was dancing even off scale? I would never land any jet in those conditions... If PMDG really modeled the same conditions realistically it would not have been so easy to land... I noted there was no crab angle on final in the PMDG and it went straight down the runway...
      On top of that, a crosswind at 4o degrees gusting to 35 is no small thing... AND with a wet runway? Exceeds the AFM limitations for landing in a cross wind....
      I have been flying large jets up to and including the 747 for 30+ years, I did not see a reasonable comaparison here.

    • @fsclips
      @fsclips 6 лет назад +13

      Tim Sanders I watched the video on my phone so I couldn't read the actual settings and I am not familiar enough with these sims to know what wind speeds these slider settings correspond to. The young man in the video said that the conditions were not unusual so I assumed 20 to 25 kts winds with some turbulence. If what you describe are the settings then I have to agree. You wouldn't and shouldn't attempt to land in those conditions. Also it means that the PMDG model is way to stable.

    Let me know here in the comments what sim you think portrays more accurate wind & weather effects on the aircraft (like the 737), especially if you are a real world pilot! :) Also make sure you check out my video where I try X-Plane 11 for the very first time: ruclips.net/video/WCV3c8uzUt0/видео.html

      Andrey Tabolin we have to disagree on that, although X-Plane is much more smooth and nice, some say it has better physics modelling, yet I believe P3D offers better real world simulation, more expansion and better developers. All those FSX years made so much experience for developers. P3D also offers better system resource usage, so it won’t make your GPU get fried like x-plane.

      Ramen Degén LOL don't even start with P3D has better physics. P3d is nothing more than a bunch of scripts telling the plane how to to fly based on control inputs, thats why it was barely moving in p3d

    There's a video floating around the internet of a 737 captain doing full controller inputs on his yoke in somewhat similar gusty conditions. So to me, I would say that it's pretty close to dead on. I would also say that the Zibo has had input from a couple 737 captains in both systems and flight modeling. For me, it's free vs $140. The free option is actually quite respectable.

    • @AviationPro

    If anyone is wondering, flight dynamics zibomod will win because of x-planes fantastic flight modeling. System-wise however, PMDG will blow zibo out of the water. PMDG has the most detailed real-to-life modeled systems in any flight simulator ever. Their new 747 QOTS II is 95% close to the real thing which is absolutely outstanding. Maybe one day pmdg will move all their products to x plane and then we'll have the holy grail.

      I fell out of love with PMDG when they decided to abandon the MD-11 which was the only plane I bought from them. It is the only reason I have P3Dv3 installed! As their first project they should have tested X-Plane with the MD-11. Instead they came out with the DC-06 which is even more of a niche aircraft than the MD-11 in my humble opinion. Rotatesim to the rescue!

    After reading many of the comments, I would like to make one additional comment here that I don't think was covered, and that is, that in order to be able to accurately compare desk-top simulation realism to full motion realism accurately, you would first need to purchase the commercial use key for x-plane...which I believe is $750.00 U.S. in order to unlock the more fully accurate FAA approved features of the software. I would also expect, that there must be similar commercial use costs for the other sims mentioned as well. X-plane is used to operate many full motion simulators, but of course, in order to do so, you need to be running multiple computers with multiple copies of X-plane with multiple commercial use keys. So your average home simulator, regardless of brand, is not going to even remotely compare to the same sim operating at full potential in it's commercial and much more costly version.

I am 73 driver and rated from the -300 all the way to the -800, and as far as I am concerned, Prepar3d, unfortunately, does not come close to reality, Xplane 11 has far more real flight dynamics which may be quite a change when switching from Prepar3D to Xplane... if any people ask, if they should go with p3d or xplane, one should show them this video, because its the answer. But most of people doesnt matter about the flight realism itself, everyone want to have the better graphics and addons, and yes in that case p3d is the winner, but in a few years, it will look completly different, more and more people fly with XP11. The flight feeling and realism is much better in XP, its no flying on rails like p3d. The first landing try at xp in this video was still amazing. A few years ago, I could make a cockpit fly at the jumpseat in an Embrear 180, and for the landing in Vienna, we had about 40-60kts crosswind (storm warning all over Austria), it was horrible how much input the pilot had to made, that he could fly and didnt lose the control of the plane. And what happened at your XP landing, was still the same, this is how an airplane reacts when you have a lot of wind :) ps: sorry for not perfect english, I'm from Austria :)

    I was interested watching this what you have to say. I swapped from FSX to XP11 and I'm starting to think Zibo 737-800 is pretty good for a freeware after the updates. Personally I feel the physics engine in XP11 makes my landings easier than it was in FSX because it's more responsive. It's easier to make small adjustments when you are on final approach. In FSX i tend to oversteer more often.

      P3D is technically the same price as XP11, at 60 USD (unless you buy the professional license which costs 200 USD, or the pro plus for 2300 USD), but I'd say overall XP11 is way cheaper after you buy the actual sim. For p3d, you have to buy a bunch of payware addons, because the default aircraft are so bad, and in xplane, you have the free zibo, default GA aircraft, and so much great free scenery. I'd go for xplane. Oh, and xplane also frequently goes for sale for like 40 USD.

      Hmm yes, actually on takeoff I was kind of launched like on an aircraft carrier because of the slope of this runway here. Just wondering: turning that off, does that get rid of all slopes on all runways? From what I know X-Plane is known for it's sloped runways in the first place. Again, also the runway slopes seem to be a bit exaggerated, just wondering if it becomes totally flat once that setting is turned off and which one of these settings is more close to reality.

  • @hanspeters5870
    @hanspeters5870 5 лет назад +1

    There you can see the main difference between a Simulator based on real physics ... and P3D the Trainsimulator 😊. PMDG does an outstanding job with their product. It leads the sim world 737ng in terms of System depth until these days. but in terms of manual flightperformance it is limited by P3Ds year 2000 up to date Physics simulation. Many people switch to X-Plane and try the Zibo mod for the first time and ask “Hey something is wrong with the plane. Every time I Takeoff and rotate the nose drops at approx 10degrees nose up. The amount of back pressure isn’t enough to even hold it at 10degrees nor to increase the attitude!”. One of many correct simulated physical things that confuse the old P3D guys. Now real world techniques become important. A real world pilot can explain what is the deadband. And yes the Zibomod is WIP. But many real world pilots and instructors working on this and take level D simulator data to match the real thing. And make sure you deactivate laminars “Experimental” Flightmodel, it destroys the Zibo.

    E, the windshear in the RW is intermittent and of shorter duration, but XP11 is generally more accurate despite the improvements to FSX by LM in P3D. There IS a problem with latency adjustment in the controls on BOTH systems. The behaviors you experienced are more those of smaller GA aircraft than of planes with far greater mass; probably due to freeware. Payware performance differs remarkably, for example the IXEG 737 classic will blow your mind, steampunk aside. Cute default retro cottonball weather, btw. Nice vid. Fun to watch you lose it just a bit. Keep the blue side up.

    • @f.n.schlub
      @f.n.schlub 6 лет назад

      Such comparisons are interesting. The difficulty is becoming acquainted with just what the weather settings (etc) actually produce in the different sim environments. Realistically, a windshear does not go on for miles and miles, but are usually quite localized ... unless one is flying through horrific weather that one would divert around anyway. One might also expect that RW ATC would put planes into holding patterns for a bit when Doppler showed windshear in the lower velocity final approach corridors, and especially so if such is shown to be right at the airport itself. Windshear and microbursts are not usually of such long duration. I don't know if Gibraltar is Doppler equipped . Regardless, it's really nice to see you sharing your spare time to produce content for us all again. Thank you.

      @@ramind10001 Xplane is far more realistic. From my flying experience in real life up here in North Dakota, I can say that flying is rarely stable in a way that P3D portrays it... That's why all of our simulators use xplane for the flight models. I used to be an FSX guy, bought just about everything from PMDG but when I started flying in real life I decided to give xplane a try and have never looked back its a great sim that portrays what its actually like to fly...

And on the wet runway after touch down, there is a lot of work to do with rudder and yoke to keep jet stable. However, I give better scores to x-plane. Ye turbulence effect looked like Cessna 172, not the B738

    The Zibo 737 looks great however I hope more real life pilots can lend a hand to the development of its flight dynamics. Looking video, it seems like that 737 is stripped of a yaw damper, oscillating around in the air hahaha.

    • @twkster1
      @twkster1 6 лет назад +4

      The newer serial numbers on the 737NG do not have a yaw damper indicator - it has been deleted.
      Really though, you are to used to FSX. real pilots prefer XPlane for a reason.... Spend some more time with XPlane and you will begin to appreciate the difference. And really, PMDG is a great product, but the modeling of weather in FSX is just too darn babied down. If you had a real cross wind with gusts (and especially the 30 knot windshear that you set in Xplane, you would know that this is no cake walk. In real life I would not have attempted to land in such conditions - particularly on a wet runway that exceeds the crosswind limitations of the 737 for wet runways! That opinion comes from 34 years flying jets of all sizes uo to and including B747. Have an open heart and spend some time with it - you will come to not appreciate XPlane but begin to Love it :)

  • @surgicalglitch3265
    @surgicalglitch3265 5 лет назад

    You have WAY over adjusted the settings in X-plane. The settings in X-plane go FAR beyond P3D. So you can't match them up unless you go to an airport that has bad conditions that day and then makes the weather match the real world weather conditions on both sims and then try flying the aircraft. It's probably the only way to get a good 100% comparison. Also to get onto the X-Plane forums and get the 'Simulation Settings' for weather conditions. Just my opinion.

  • @lucianminea
    @lucianminea 6 лет назад

    Nice flying, but you still have the same problem with the input. Plane movement was indeed exagerated on the first try with X Plane 11. No matter the weather conditions, the inputs on the short finals are always very small inputs. That kind of airplane has sufficient momentum and inertia vectors to be able to keep a relatively linear direction once it's established. You have to understand that a plane is not moving trough the air like a car, I mean when you steer, a car will turn without dragging, in normal driving condition (optimal speed).
    A plane will turn the tail in opposite direction than the one desired, therefor moving the nose to where you want it to go, but the most important thing is that the ariplane is always gonna turn in car dragg style, it's always gonna slide, it's physics.
    That is the reason why the final approach inputs need to stay as minimum as possible, except very violent winds.
    So it will be more realistic for you to try to guide the ariplane in that way, without those bounces.

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  6 лет назад

    The Turbulence effects in X plane 11 are absurdly exaggerated even if you select a tiny amount of slider for that "feature". As for "flight models" you are mainly testing the autopilots which over-ride the manual flight model. Also the larger the aircraft, in both sims, the more a fllght model can get away with murder because of the much larger inertia. The real test of flight modelling is in much smaller aircraft. Neither sim out of the box is any good in this regard, but if anything X plane is even worse than Prepar/FSX. The ground handling is also an embarrassment. It's amazing how some people get taken in by claims of "superior" flight modelling. On balance X plane has a terrible core flight model: Bouncy, unstable pitch control, way too excessive cross wind influence on fuselages, very poorly done wind and weather effects, no side slipping and impossible to spin. Both have flaws and really it is up to addon makers to tweak them and improve them.
