Despite my initial criticisms I eventually picked up this QW787. It is a beautiful aircraft and keeps getting better with every update.

The weather radar draw distance is usually dependent on your setting in your weather program, such as the Draw Distance in ActiveSky (and/or P3D).
Active sky's draw settings are set beyond 120 miles actually, and from what I know from when I first installed it, its settings are not affected by Prepar3D's cloud draw distance slider and vice versa. In PMDG aircraft the weather radar works correctly. Perhaps Prepar3D's draw slider still affects the QW787 weather radar somehow, so I'll give it a try by increasing it and see if that works :)
Interesting...well if our (PMDG's) planes are working fine, then I guess something could be up. I can't find a setting that would change it in their documentation, either, but I only took a quick glance.

Afca 020 voorlopig zit ie nog lekker op de Queen ook leuke bestemmingem maar 78 lijkt me een interessant vliegtuig
Mijn vader zit momenteel in training voor de 787, nu is hij nog Captain op 777, maar vanaf 3 september mag hij ook op de 78 vliegen. En ik neem aan dat je vader net als mijn vader bij KLM zit? :)
Most of the “individual” lighting controls are usually left in the Auto position (the center dot), I wonder if the Master Brightness Control works on the overhead panel. Try taking the Master Brightness out of Auto (the center button) and then see if the individual brightness controls work. Most pilots, me included, usually leave the Master in Auto and then turn the overall brightness up or down by rotating the selector in Auto. Looks like a pretty nice simulation, keep in mind the HUD is central in flying this jet. Once you get used to the HUD, you never use the PFD on takeoff or landing. It is designed to be a full time system on the jet. Lack of button controls is really a negative as you said...
Hi i Have seen this video b4 and i am seeing it now fully.....as you were talking about the perfirmance heavy thing its actually BEST recommended unfortuntely that you fly this bird for FSX because the performance issues are relatively less unfortunately.....but we can manage to some extent in p3d

My major problem is the fps performance I get 30-40fps on pmdg products on p3d. This plane on the other hand locks me to 8-9fps which was very laggy. The only workaround is to turn off dynamic lighting and never turn on the landing light and taxi lights even on daytime flights. Beautiful plane just need the dev to issue out big updates.

I waited about an hour but the computer crashed
Everything stuck and there was no way to restart it. It gave me the whole black screen. I had to bring it to service.
I state that I had disabled all the antivirus. Windows 10 operating system

Thanks! Haven't fired up this aircraft a lot to be honest, there have been some updates, but I believe it still needs some work.
Man, I've got to say I love seeing the 787 in real life and I love flying on it as a passenger, but at least in the sim I don't like flying it. Very modern and the fly by wire is clearly in control over the pilot, not the other way around. No doubt this is the new modern day aircraft but as a sim pilot, I'll dive back in the 777. Also fly by wire but at least I'm still completely in control. Maybe there is a way to disable the fly by wire like in an Airbus. Haven't found the option yet. Thanks for your video :)

I wish other addon makers would learn from Majestic Q400 in how they did their systems outside of the sim and then inject it, and due to performance issues with other addons such as this, I more or less only use X-Plane 11 now.

Injected exterior systems and flight models are a little over-rated. What the Dash has is good frame rates despite quite complex systems. X Plane 11 has no claim to superiority in this regard and on my system is quite slow running, and the core aerodynamics are no better, and in some cases, completely wrong, but different addons can correct some of the core faults with tuning and tweaking, just as with FSX and P3d.
Dude, this aircraft almost makes me install P3D again, they should really convert this to X-Plane 11! Mooie video Pro ;)

AviationPro, I know I’m a year late. I’ve been flying the 787 for a while . Unfortunately, everytime I take off . My engine goes idle. I’ve had this problem before w FSX but ignored. I’ve stalled and crashed on take off while on Vatism and I couldn’t take it anymore. You know how to fix this , please reply.

On 787 you can start both engines at the same time
Entaryn Actually on the real thing it is not recommended due to the extreme current draw of the VFSGs during starting, remember this thing requires 3 GPU to feed power for single engine starting if APU is not on.
On the 777 too, but not recommended to reduce wear and tear

Wait - are you talking about the 777 or 787? My first comment is talking about the 777 only. On the 787, many do but some do not. For example, Ethiopian Airlines 787 and a couple others do one at a time , but then again Boeing recommendations are NOT always followed. For example, Air France 777-200ER crew does not use autostart (last time i checked in 2015)

Reduce your anti aliasing settings.
AviationPro - sir do you use Spad.next or even Linda Lua? You can set the buttons for most, if not all, 3rd party controllers. I used Spad.next to pretty much set up all major functions to Saiteks' panels.

Thanks for this, it's helped me make my decision to buy, which I now definitely will, as it looks so interesting and different from many of the planes I have. Seems to have a bit more "character" than the sterile, dull 777 from what I can see!

I think it is caused by new update. because I did one flight on that update and I had this flickering also but on AS A320. so I rolledback and it is doing well right now.

for sure ... it's a new generation cockpit and plane like the A350 .. so for me we have to start to accustom with this kind of new generation
plane . so we can't compare it "" according"" to his new technologies to the 777 or 737-8 ngx or other plane .
maybe with the new 777 not officialy present ..or the 737 Max.
this plane must be compared if we have in our maket of simulation a good A350 XB..
- if possible AviationPro we can explore his dynamic flight , stabilities , systhemes..
- i like from you if possible to test this plane in non precision approche . using LNAV VNAV.... testing the IAN approche with if it work with this
plane because the 787 instead of the 777 is able to do the IAN approche.
- i will test from my side again.

Your VC panel texture quality is way better than mine. Did you do something to improve? I have a GTX 1070, and looks like crap. I also have difficulties to read instruments.
If you have FXAA enabled that can blur the cockpit a touch.
Yes, in the user manual you can find a way to increase the resolution of the displays. In the 787-8 aircraft folder there's a folder called panel.hires. Backup the regular panel folder and remove the .hires from the panel.hires folder, so now each and every aircraft uses the higher resolution displays.

I did not watch your whole video just run through some parts but I have a question. Video felt laggy like 15-20fps max. Is it fps heavy addon? Do you think its becasue of bad optimalization or do you have same fps with pmdg too?. I see your HW it should give you 30fps at payware aircraft and scenery with no problems.
It's slightly lower on this 787 compared to PMDG airplanes, but still flyable. Testing at Amsterdam with clouds is just a very heavy test, but it was still flyable.
My P3D v4 doesn’t respond when I turn on this airplane “WXR”
Jayden Lee - other users have complained of CTD’s when using the weather radar.....especially when using it with Active Sky. I’m guessing it’s a bug.....and QW will get to it. In the meantime, don’t use it and you won’t have a problem!
why is the cockpit display so bright compared to the fsx qw787 version?

Thanks for the honest review. It seems like a good plane. I am 90% X-Plane 11 and whenever I think about using both sims I gravitate back to X-Plane. I only use P3Dv3 for my beloved PMDG MD-11 which is still superior to this aircraft in my opinion ( great FMC) . However when the CEO of PMDG banned me for 2 days on Avsim for calling the MD-11 abandonware and for not respecting the EULA, I not only left avsim but complained that PMDG has to much control on the avsim forum and Inleft PMDG altogether! I never bought any other plane from them as a result of their attitude and gouging customers when they switched from Fsx to p3d. Once RotateSim comes out with the MD-11 I will probably be 100% X-Plane

Agreed. Definitely looking forward to the Rotate MD-11. Hopefully after that they go to the 717/MD-95, as it's a logical next-step up from the MD-11 cockpit work and some of the MD-80 model work. There's another 717 in development as well that's looking promising as well.

Nice review and very well presented. Thank you. No sim aircraft is worth having unless it can achieve 25-30 fps on a modest system with detail turned down. It's not much to ask and PMDG manages to deliver that through clever optimisation and user adjustments. This aircraft looks very well designed and solid, but if it can barely achieve more than a jerky frame rate it is very frustrating. Smooth flying is absolutely essential whatever aircraft you are simulating. It is not a pleasure to hand fly any sim aircraft when you can see the frames stuttering along. Shame because this product in all other respects looks very nice.
You're welcome! Absolutely, although flying at Amsterdam is quite heavy and tough, even with PMDG aircraft. I bet this aircraft is a joy to fly at high fps airports, but the main difference is that a PMDG aircraft is still managable at low frames, this aircraft's displays start blinking and going black and its general performance is simply not as good as PMDG.

Short answer to your question is because P3D is still heavily relying on single core to do all the "environment" calculations. Meaning that even if you have a 8 core processor, most cores will be idleing waiting for the main core to do its job.
LM has improved multi core processing for P3D but it still shows core 0 as 95 % idle and other cores below 10.
Given the "old" architecture of FSx (basis of P3D) nothing much they can still do. (It has improved a lot already btw)

It will never be on v3.
v3 is dead now. The FSX version *might* work in v3, but at your own risk. But would recommend upgrade to v4, it's a different world now

Really? You should do a bit more research Mark, there's a freeware 737-800 that's almost as in depth as PMDG aircraft, but stay naive.
Gizmo the Gecko I perfectly know the in bundle 737 and Zibo mod. That’s the only good liner and only thx to Zibo. Other than the old 737 ngx built 25 years ago, XP11 still runs on an ancient engine ( like p3d ) but it has no liners while p3d has pmdg, QW, Aerosoft airliners.
A sim 98% based on GA is not a flight sim imo, that’s only a GA sim
FFA320, FF757, FF767, to a lesser extent their 777 which needs an update, FlyJSim 737-200, 727-200, ToLiSs A319, JRollon CRJ, X-Crafts and SSG cover all of the current-gen E-Jets, Rotate MD-80. As well as the freeware Zibo. There are even some more that I haven't listed here as well as some in development. GA has the Eclipse 550, DA-62, tons of offerings from JustFlight, Epic E1000 and a TBM in development.

Who knows, let's see what they announce at the FS Expo...
PMDG is a bit pricey, but Majestic (Q400) and TFDI (717-200) have similarly prices aircraft and they have modeled all aircraft systems, have great performance and are also graphically pleasing. The Leonardo MD-82 (Maddog X) is about 20 dollars more expensive that the QW 787. So saying that the aircraft is half the price of the PMDG 747/777 is not a strong argument. Despite the name of the developer, the total quality aircraft (I've also watched other videos) does not justify the 70 dollar price tag. QW did very little additional development on their 757 series after the initial release, so I don't expect major improvements in the future..
Of course everybody is free to buy the aircraft that he or she likes, but for this kind of money you're kind of expecting near study level details.. Based on what I've seen so far, I would estimate it real value around the 50 dollar mark. 60 dollar if the 787-10 is a free update!
I have not tried any of those other aircraft, but I think you're right.

Populism I guess... As P3D is updated platform over FSX, which has 10+ year of addon database; it is definitely more attractive. Still, this doesn't mean P3D is all better than XP11.
Hi-fidelity addon availability will always outweigh subjective opinions of flight dynamics. People want aircraft and systems and that's what P3D gives in spades, otherwise we might as well buy pigeon simulator.
Well yeah, but wouldn't the counter to that be that X-Plane could have the same systems and aircraft if people bothered to develop for it?
Yeah, I completely agree with that. I'm just talking about the situation as it stands right now.
It's not a case of "bothering". Aircraft developers are a business, and the potential customer base of FSX/P3d is several times larger than XPlane, they don't do it for fun. However the number of XPlane users is growing, so this will happen, give it a few years.
I've been on X-Plane for the past 2 years, I forgot how bad the fps was in p3d, how can anyone enjoy this is beyond me?

The FPS don`t look good. This is on a fairly respectable rig as well. Discouraging unfortunately. Hiccups, screen flickering, weather radar deficiency, etc. No thanks.
