Nah, I think he's better on videos. In fact, I think he works very well in the traditional media style. I would just love to see more of his travel show (James May: Our Man in Japan) and I think the only thing that could improve that show is if it was a bit more car-oriented as well. Like if he visited a car museum and spoke about or drove some rare cars, etc. Mind you James could probably spend all day at a car museum.

I am a Tesla fan boy for the reason that it’s more than just a car. It’s a philosophy of trying to clear our breathable air of harmful particulates that we breathe every day. It’s about sustainable energy, energy storage, getting power from the sun, Not just leaving a planet that is not worse off ( pollution) for our children. I do agree with you that even 15 minutes of charging is too long and I am hoping that the next generation of batteries will change that to a point where it will be much more compatible with current ICE vehicles. Keep on the entertaining videos! I’ve been a fan since the early days of, what was the name of that old show you were on? LOL

The conversation about electrics hit the nail on the head!
They're very sophisticated pieces of machinery but ultimately it comes down to how long they take to charge up and be that way.
And the battery costs $10 000+ and they have problems with paint
Emmmm... NO!
Most people spend much more time refueling per year than will with an EV which leaves home full every day.
And on the odd long trip... almost nobody recharges for 45 minutes like James says. He has an old model S with slower recharging speed, and normally you'd take 15min to charge up to 80% at high speed and then continue driving - not waste a whole lotta time charging to 100% at a slower rate. 80% of modern model S is 320 miles, more than enough for a 15 minute stop.
@@IJustHitTheFan Not quite agree with ya about that odd long trip. Technically you are right, but in practive it often happens those odd long trips happen to everyone at the same time. Summer holiday for example, when suddenly everyone wants to take a break from work. Or weekends. Or christmas. Dunno about US, but in EU it may be chaos. Petrol stations are already becoming chaotic during busy days. I cant imagine superchargers as we know them now during such days, when most people make a switch to EVs.
@@IJustHitTheFan As James said in the video the charger is not always at 320 miles it could be at 180 miles and you would still have to stop because otherwise you will not make it to the next charger. On paper it sounds fine but logistics are challenging on long trips. Earlier in the video he said his Tesla will charge for 15 mins but it is still too long, I think later in the video he was referring to EVs as a whole and not Tesla specifically. 15 mins every time you have to stop will add up on long trips. His Model S is also only a few months old.
@@IJustHitTheFan UK is also a little different given a lot of people can't park off-road to charge, and on-road parking may not be near your home. Plus the distribution grid is designed around traditional home electricity usage, so massive costs to upgrade substations & transformers. That's also true for charging stations, ie getting power to those sites, which can often mean they're charging off fossil fuel generators anyway. Site may have some solar panels for a bit of greenwash, but they can't provide enough power to supercharge multiple cars. Then there's the bank holiday weekend challenge, where there may be long queues to fill up an ICE, and longer queues to wait for a charging slot.

Worth noting that road trips in a model 3 are actually pretty easy. It's certainly a different experience than with a gas car, but I've never felt frustrated or disabled at needing to stop.

I will always upvote these 2.
Perhaps an unpopular opinion. But to me, Doug is a legend. I’ve followed him since he was an idiot wearing flip flops trying to pick up women, to an idiot who wears two tee shirts religiously. Guy has taught me so much about cars and this is coming from someone who has loved automobiles since as young as I can remember.
I've driven my Tesla on trips over 1000 miles. No issues about waiting. Stop for lunch? Charge. Bathroom break? Charge. Get a coffee? Charge. Absolutely no big deal or anxieties about doing long distances, particularly in California.
Get Doug on speaking with James and the boys more, just aimlessly speaking about cars, quality content
