I heard this song for the first time a few years ago. It was Christmas morning and I was in my car in a Wawa parking lot and this came on the radio. I was going through a really dark time and felt like everything was lost and didn’t like anything anymore. I had to admit to myself that I liked this song. One of the tiny moments I’ll always remember that represent the very slow climb out of that funk I was in. It’s now one of my favorite Christmas songs! Thank you Dropkick Murphys! Merry Christmas everyone!
It's a Christmas novelty-song, it makes us laugh and it reminds us of the bad and the good that come with Christmastime. But if it get's you in a good mood, than you know bloody damn well it's done it's job! Merry Christmas, to one and all!
The music video really sells it that even though your family is nuts and gets on your nerves you still love them in the end because hey, they're your family.
I listen to this song every year and think about my family Christmas get togethers. My fathers parents split and both remarried, my mothers mother had thirteen sisters and six brothers. Her house looked like the Griswold house on steroids for the last two weeks of December. Sixteen bickering aunts and uncles, tons of kids screaming and shouting, a few pets that couldnt be left at home but damnwell cant stand each other. It was a madhouse and drove us all nuts but we did it because it was tradition. And I am here to tell you, remember these years. Remember when your third aunt burned the hell out of her casserole but everyone had to pretend to stomach it. Remember the youngest cousin accidentally falling and crushing someone elses gift taking presents to people. Remember your granddad going back fifty years to tell a half-remembered Christmas story of his childhood. They havent felt normal in the last several and I dont mean Covid, I have a lot less Aunts and Uncles and no grandfathers left. The kids are all grown and starting families and live too far away to attend. I know these may make you wanna pull your hair out now, but when everyones dead, gone or unavailable, you'll miss it. I miss it. I miss them.
Foughtwolf; Your post made me flashback to my childhood, where we would all gather at grandmas. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day because, we always did it that way. People came in shifts. It was so crowded you had to plan your movements. There was a kids table, and you knew you arrived when you got into the dinning room. Card table with all the booze on it. The kids trying to sneak a swig now and then. All fish on Eve, and pasta and roast beef on the day. Those were the best Christmas’ of my life. Most are gone. We really don’t appreciate those times fully until they are past. Thank you for your post.
Great sentiment. Every year as I get older I notice less and less people around at Christmas compared to my childhood. I'm only 28 but time creeps on all of us. The sooner you realise the better because you can appreciate the time more. Every Christmas I now set up a video camera in the main room and let it run for an hour or two so I can watch them in the twilight of my life. I have done this the past three years. It helps. Stay safe mate.
10 years down the road and this song still brings a tear to the eye to all the mischievous and mayhem causing loved ones we've lost in the interim. It's such a brutally, yet beautifully, honest acceptance of the many faults of those we love (and ourselves for that matter) Merry Christmas everyone.

I grew up in an Irish-Canadian family, and while our Christmases weren't quite *this* wild, they were close. Lots of whiskey, singing, arguing, and laughter. This video brings back the best memories of my childhood. We were savages, but not bad as savages go :-)
My mother is Scottish born and bred. The other half of my family is German. And the Scottish Christmases were, and still are, far better than their German counterparts.
Nah, it's purposefully over the top. The songwriter bitches about his family like everyone does, but just look at the music video. It's clear the DKM's have a deep fondness and love for their families too.
I'm going to Loop this song at work all day, because even hearing it 100 times in a day it's 100x better than listening to the depressing old xmas classics on the radio

PboyB2010 is right
No Christmas playlist is complete without this tune
Dropkick Murphys don't ever change and Merry Christmas. Love from Canada.
Merry Christmas from Greece!
@@markusalcudia Must be wonderful when she's screaming at you for something you don't even know what --- priceless!
@@GinoACosta ... and in an Irish family, when Mom screams, you bloody *listen* even if she's got grey hair, and you're 2 feet taller than her :-D
same here brother
A new Christmas classic.
It's November, 10th, and I'm looking forward to binge-watch this untill Christmas🤩
Love drinkin whiskey to this song during the holidays
Merry Christmas to the legends still jamming this in 2023! ❄️ ⛄️ 🎄
And to you. 🎅
2024❤
Love it!!!
Dropkick Murphys all time the best...
Merry Christmas to all.
Good wishes from Germany. 👋
The most brutally honest Christmas carol in human history.
My family's worse than this
Joseph Hunter you should see mine
Fourth year running I'm checking in here. Love seeing the new comments. This is a good one, Stephen.
Nah, it's purposefully over the top. The songwriter bitches about his family like everyone does, but just look at the music video. It's clear the DKM's have a deep fondness and love for their families too.
i prefer this over the weird silence
Thank you for summing up all my Irish Christmases that I couldn't put into words.
The memory remains!
why do people dislike this? one of the best christmas songs out there cheers
Love it!!!!
I wonder how his family feel about it..
because it's too real.
The lyrics sound mean until you see the video and realize that this family is close, for all of their rowdiness and flaws. Merry Christmas to all!
Probably his sisters, their husbands and kids lol
I definitely wasn’t in the Christmas spirit this year until I heard this great song just now. Definitely my favourite Christmas song! ❤️❤️❤️
Mine too with "fairy tales of NY" by the pogues. Merry Christmas !!!
Same with me.
When Christmas is near I have this song on repeat!
Me too, happy Xmas 😃😃😃🎄🎄🇩🇪
the good old Christmas Carol! listening every year.
It's almost Christmas. So that means it's almost time to play this while getting that Die Hard blue ray ready.
Greatest secular Christmas song ever composed. Should get major airplay every season.
Its no Fairytale in New York
I'm going to Loop this song at work all day, because even hearing it 100 times in a day
it's 100x better than listening to the depressing old xmas classics on the radio
This is the Christmas vacation of music, never gets old and always relevant!
This needs to be the next Christmas comedy movie.
Still my Favorite Christmas Carol! reminds me of my crazy family. Try to spend as much time with your Family as possible, because you will miss them so much when they are gone! RIP mom & dad and Merry Christmas!
The only chrismas song i listen to all year long,
It makes a swell back to back with The Pogues "Fairytale of New York"
2:17 I love it how some Dads say they don't want a dog and they share these holidays with them the most.
Dammit how did I miss this song! I'm a week to late! I was introduced to the DropKick Murphys years ago by a young hero who died in the line of duty and I've loved them ever since. Miss you G Money! This will be a holiday song for me from now on!
This song gets played every Christmas in my house.
This song is my house..
same here :D
Just hearing this for the first time, I love it! 😄
Tis the season!
11 years and still going strong🍻
I can't wait for this year
Dropkick Murphy's, we need more holiday carols!
Only way to start November 💯
Those two naughty nephews really must the singer's impersonation when he was a kid.
What shines through though throughout, is the respect for the musicians and their instruments
I love this no matter what the season. They just make me smile. Fabulous! Yes, we're all messed up! I can just imagine the fun they had filming this! Just fabulous. Thanks all.
Love you boys from the 923rd logistics unit 2 deployments and you got us through it all
Joseph Felder I didn't know y'all are still deploying... it's been since the end of '08 since my last deployment. hope you're all well!!! they really need to keep you home!
615 ASB 1cd forge the edge!
Bless you boys!
Thank you for your service, ladies and gents!
Every year I come back to this and a Fairytale of New York they are my go to songs 🎸🎸🎶🎶💚☘️💚.
Back again 2023 🤣🤣
The Pogues would have had a perfect career and "...Fall From Grace.." could have been a perfect album if that horrid little bit of crap had never seen the light of day.
Dropkicks, you are unique! Not only exception musicians, but actors also! Great!
Freaking love these guys. From Attleboro MA
Excellent song, as always!!! Excellent video, as always!!
Happy Holidays, you crazy Dropkick Murphs!!! :) And Peace to Everyone!!
I know it's not chrismas but i do hope it will be number 1 this year I just love the dropkick murphys
This song can be enjoyed all year round.
Idk why, but nothing makes me happier than seeing a bunch of people gathered on the same videos on the same day, for all the same reason.
Well... it's like we don't know each other, we do different stuff in life, but we all belong to one group right now. Merry Christmas :)
@@Petaurista13 You too. ;)
