Is a $1000 Fox 34 Step Cast really worth it?

- Does putting an $1100 fork on an $1800 bike make sense? Can the minor problems I found with the 2022 Polygon Siskiu D7 be easily fixed?

Dude you need to match... I DARE you to get a fox dps factory
no
@@fillerschreiberfamily5213 Haha I like the dare! I'll keep my eyes peeled. I do have a problem with the DPS factory being a darker gold than the fork kashima
I'm happy with my fork (on a budget) but someone let me try their RockShox SID Ultimate and it was, to say the least, impressive.
That was a pretty good first upgrade considering it costs a good fraction of what the bike costs! Its good that you treated yourself with this fork cuz you've REALLY deserved it! You've ridden a number of parts with considerable quality over the last year! Im reffering to you ZTZ
Such disappointement in ztz
@@sim_dude yea. Their solution to the old one leaking oil was to remove the oil?! What the shit
And the lowers were barely even sitting on?!?!?!
@@wilmernordman6268 i would love to see them redemm themselve with a bit better equipement, seals etc...

Almost 10K subs, before you know it it will be 100k!!! this channel is growing so fast.
Glad I could help! Great video! Animations give it so much life. 🙌
I love how it just ends on expensive carbon parts with regret of his question. Amazing video!
It would be cool to give it a matching float dps factory, make it straight high end
Been lurking for awhile… subscribed now. I appreciate the no holds barred reviews.
I love the storytelling on this video! Keep it up Evan!
Heck yeah! Been following this channel and working on some bike builds on the side. Really insightful as always! Congrats on the fork my dud
Bro I love your Chanel and believe that it is highly underrated you’ve helped me and entertained me ever since I found you keep it up!
This has become my favourite mtb yt channel
Great job Evan
one of my new fav bike related channel!
That improvement is mind blowing. Looks like you found the type of bike you are looking for.
I'm laughing with you when I watch this! It feels good to see another person who has shared this experience also. I totally get the opening the box euphoria because I just got mine yesterday and it was so much more than I expected to own. And, in similar fashion, I put it on my $1200 used bike I bought in the early spring. ( I have the regular and not step cast) I could not cut that steerer tube....you are braver than me. I just held it like a new puppy and watched RUclips with it. But...I took it to a shop this morning to get the deed done. I also forgot about the 15 x 120 axel until a day after I ordered and then bought a single budget wheel out of desperation and am still waiting for it. The wheel was basically used and abused anyway. I also put the 4 piston Shimano XT brakes on the same bike last month. Did I mention I paid $1200 for the bike? LOL!
You have great content. You have bikes that even I can afford. Subbed!
Did the same on my process 134, i'm upgrading the recon to a lvrik ultimate. Can't wait to ride it! Missing the correct brake adapter for my 203 rotors
this channel make top tier mtb videos you should be at like 3M subs right now cuz you make real quality videos and you deserve it

Great video as Always
LOL! I decided to do exactly what you did (even bought the same problem solvers kit) and then saw this video. Glad to see I was on the right track. Going with purple grips and pedals though.
Nice review. I love my 2021 D7.
That gopro shot of the fork in action is incredible!
I’m so sorry I got a polygon sisku t7 and my dad got the d7 because I of your previous amazing review video, I feel terrible that I didn’t buy it through the link and you deserve it so for all your work you put into your video’s.
Now to replace the rear shock with a Fox DPS! I was floored at how much difference upgrading the rear shock made.
this chanel is about to blow up👍
Rip Evans Wallet, you for sure have my respect
Congrats on the fork ! I bet it's making that much more capable as well
Best my friend keep going like this support from me only love and happiness to all people and never give up i wish the best to all people !!
You deserve it bro..... Have a great day
Okay subbed at 9k lets go 100k!!!!
Nice intro, like a movie producer!! What software you use? Get affiliate for it just like everything else. You are on another level finding the the "Cure" Lol. Nice work with others from mtb community.

Heck yeah thanks dude!
Cool channel and a Berm Peak jersey too! One more subscriber gained.
Evan can you please tell me the rotors you order for use with the metallic pads from the mythic breaks? I want to upgrade with metallic pads / calipers but shopping on line is confusing.
That's a fine beauty of a fork you got mate👍
That looks awesome! Crazy how much time you were able to shave off too!
Buen video bro!!🤟
Here take this 💖 as a motivation to never stop uploading videos😊
The discoloration on the stanchions is from SRAM butter. It's the lubricant for the stanchions so you might want to keep it on.
i buyed the 34 Fox Kashima Fork yesterday, for a reasonable price. Im riding it for 2 Days now and need to say that it is reaaaaaaally nice and i kove how it looks!
Its an awesome upgrade and I'm looking to put a beefier fork on my D6. I think for more down country I would have opted more for the regular fox 34 over the lighter less robust step cast version.
Id'look for a take off 34 rythm !
@@sim_dude I'm pretty set on a bomber z2
Could also look at the Sid, it's got a 35mm chassis while being lighter than the 34
You are the best evan !
LOL the cure cycling part. Carbon upgrades ? Hell YES
Haha he saved the video. Also he provided content for another video coming up!
Ayyyyy! 🥳🥳🥳
You sir, have yourself another new subscriber. I really enjoy seeing vlogs/reviews in this range. Really eyeing Polygon as my next step up from just putting around with my Marlin 6. Coming from national level BMX racing in my past has been a pretty fun transition.
Oh man so awesome to hear! I also raced BMX on the national level for quite some time and so glad I jumped ship on that discipline haha
@@EvansMTBSaga nice! Yeah my body is certainly thankful for it! Although my shifter kart racing has certainly been making sure I stay humble as I age
$1100 dollars!! Dang Evan, that is some crazy 💩. I would congratulate you on 9k but by the time you read this you will probably be at 10k😉. Glad you are finally getting some back after all the time and work you put in. Keep killing it man. Flip Phones for life👍👍🤣.
Yeah I sold the Mythique and it covered the cost of the Fox fork. Worked out great. I lost my last flip phone and picked up this one for $20. Can't beat that
holy shit this video hit 100k views. congrats on your first 100k.
Heck yeah thanks Eugene! I changed the thumbnail and brought the video back to life
@@EvansMTBSaga smart
Did you go with the 44m or 51mm offset for the Fox 34? I have a siskiu D6 and want to get that factory or stepcast fork with 130mm or 140mm travel. Not sure i should go 44mm or 51mm offset with the increase in travel.
This guy is so underrated
I think buying a new front wheel is easier than putting that boost conversion kit on
Just did the same thing to my titanium hardtail. Great fork!
Oh man titanium! That's probably a cool build
if you have an older front shock with only open/close settings in my case a 2016 ish rock shox reba RL it's absolutely totally worth it the middle setting made a huge difference on wood paths and I became faster everywhere with less effort and more importantly to me my shoulders hurt a lot less I was unable to ride with the rock shock because they were basically stiff-stiff-stiff-full travel-stiff-stiff-stiif Foxes are absolutely not like thhat they move sometimes not much but they do with less than 30 miles of training that year I immediately did 47miles 5000ft uphill a mountain and down I don't regret my upgrade, it's way more progressive and smooth
Instead of buying the D7 and upgrading the fork, thoughts on the T8 which comes with the Fox 34 performance?
half way there to 10k subs. also did my letter arrive in ur po box since it sent it 2 weeks ago
Yup I got it! Thanks for the kind words
Means a lot. Also you should make an mtb news channel
Were you able to go tubeless with the stock nobby nics that came with the bike? I can't find any information to confirm whether or not the tires are tubeless compatible. Thanks!
Yup they are tubeless compatible tires! I showed footage in my first video with the D7. The rims need to be taped though.
I just bought a Rocky 150/140 28lbs . Thinking I Could Love That Fork NP😎
Yes make it as light as possible it would be a fun experiment
underrated channel
Is there a link for the centelock conversion?
What length did you cut the steering tube to?
nice, bike looking good
I just got my polygon d7 and the fox 34 is what I originally wanted
Just got my new bike!!
Did you not find the 32mm stanchions on the rockshox too flexy? I rode a friends one and that along with the rebound adjustment was soo lackluster
I'll be completely honest, I don't know what flexy stanchions feel like (yet). And I really want to know the feeling for the videos sake
@@EvansMTBSaga ah yeah fair enough, perhaps because im pushing 90kg+ riding weight and ride fairly aggressive terrain. Ultimately it was the fork that mate me go another direction from the siskiu lineup, ended up going with a Merida. ended up with boost wheelset front and rear too. Such a shame you don't get them in USA. They are such good value bikes and theyre in store too
Man I love your videos 😘❤❤ I wish be you could advise me how to upgrade my trek fuel ex 5 2022 to be a better monster..🥺🥺 any professional advisers about the suspension I should go for?? 🥺🥺
My d7. New maxxis tubeless and longer stem. Handled well at Bentonville.
So awesome! The D7 brought my love for cycling back. I was in a bad place with my last bike.
Loving my d7
My gosh the fork alone cost 10x more than my bike let alone the shock btw where are you gonna put the recon fork ? Also sticker you forgot em
There is something important I just caught that you didn’t explain. The front rotor was riveted to the center lock mount but when you put the rotor back it just had 6 open holes. Did you swap rotors or remove rivet’s?
Hmm I felt like I mentioned the new rotor. But it's a completely different rotor - SRAM
I think you should lace up a carbon wheelset. Light bicycle makes really good en budget friendly carbon rims, lace them up wit dt swiss 350 hubs and you are done with just $700
Begin with the things that matter when upgrading the bike. So far the fork was a worth while investment, but I do think that the tires would be a better upgrade to do next as those ones look a bit under gunned. Better rubber always makes a world of difference!
Dude good advice! I'm never really sure what tires to go with. Any recommendations? My terrain is rugged, loose over hard. But also want a fast rolling tire.
@@EvansMTBSaga Maxxis Aggressor, Schwalbe Nobby Nic/Hans Damf and Michelin also make a few tires that roll fast and last long. Rubber compound is also important. Maxxis 3C Maxx Terra would be good for the Aggressor.
@@EvansMTBSaga My vote goes for Maxxis Rekon in back, Minion DHF in front. Retains that downcountry speed with the back tire, but a grippier up front where rolling resistance won't matter as much.
Nobby Nic are the best
What’s the frame tire clearance look like? Could some 2.6s squeeze in there?
I think it's possible. I had a 2.5" on the rear with nice clearance, the only issue is the cable would rub on the tire sometimes
just a quick heads up, from a bunch of tests done on crank length they don't really make a noticable difference (usually 165-175mm are tested) and shorter ones just have more clearance, maybe the fact that they were new and difference made it feel faster (and obviously the fork)
Well I went from 165s to 175s and the difference was crazy. I really regret having rode 165s. Not enough leverage
@@EvansMTBSaga well part of the leverage equation is the gearing, ofc if you install 200mm cranks you will feel a great increase of leverage. then you adjust gearing. and you are back to where you were.
Damn the Kashima looks amazing
what are you gonna do with the recon? I'm looking for one
Planning on selling it. www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3188857/ Here's the listing.
3:07 do you genuinely use a flip phone lol. Also Jared's upgraded t7 is only 1 pound heavier than his FULL carbon niner. So carbon parts aren't always worth it unless you want something nice lol
Hey Evans, I ride a Siskiu D7, any thoughts if i could put it with a100mm fork, would be cool if you could make a video of ur D7 with a SID SL 100mm on the front.
It could work but it might feel strange if you're riding steep downhill trails.
@@EvansMTBSaga Cheers mate!
Hello, greetings from Philippines 🇵🇭! Had any issue with the rockshox recon? I'm planning to buy tho.
I did not. But I didn't use it long. I felt like it was a good fork and I plan on buying one down the road
@@EvansMTBSaga If you would choice to buy, rockshox recon or manitou machete?
I never used the Machete.
dude what brand is the bike stand, i need to get myself one
It's a feedback bike stand amzn.to/3ABh44M
Dude you should take a look at the dnm usd 6s fork Its super weird but cool. Its an enduro style fork and its inverted with no fork bridge
I know a guy (simple pleasures mtb) here in LA who has those forks. Pretty cool you can fit any wheel size in there and he made one of his bikes a mullet because the fork could handle a bigger wheel.
@@TheCaptainsCog will definitely check it out thanks man
The random monaing at the end🤣
Is that a new rotor or did you take the old one apart?
For the front I used a SRAM centerline that I had
I’m still using my Rockshox recon. Nice fork 🦊
What was the appraisal on how the bike handled? Yes it’s quicker but actually saying how different the bike handled would’ve been helpful.
Thanks a lot I got one is t7 and I’m very existed
I'm just 5'0" and I have a hardtail with 700mm wide handlebar. Should i cut the Siskiu D7 handlebar to 700mm also or will that affect the handling of a full suspension bike. Thank you.
That does seem a little narrow. You can always do it in phases. Start with 760, if you don't like it, try 740, then so on. Wide bars=more stable bike
@@EvansMTBSaga Thank you so much for your patience with my questions. I really appreciate it. Thank you.
I have a rockshox judy, and the fork is also dirt like yours was. DO I just rub some alchohol on it to clean it?
Yup!
@@EvansMTBSaga Just tried it, and it worked! Thanks so much
Man, carbon wheels literally changed my bike. You should try and check some of those for next upgrade. You also don't need to buy the fanciest ones either.
Chinese carbon wheelset?? 😍😍
@@EvansMTBSaga yep, got some high quality Chinese ones. They do cost, but not even close to zipp or dt
If you do a wheelset upgrade look at Hadley hubs. Not as cheap as Spank or Hope but they're USA made and supposed to be like budget Chris King.
I'll check them out right now! Love the advice. You make the Saga Squad strong
The question is what you would get for selling the bike and then add $1100 on top of that for a new bike purchase, or a solid second hand one. Personally I would go that route before the bike takes a plummet in second hand value.
I've recently upgraded brakes on my personal commuter bike that cost more than the bike itself, but that bike isn't worth selling in terms of monetary value, so that to me made sense given I use it 365 days a year and don't own a car. It's all about price per year.
Boost spacing mishaps, pff hold my Gatorade:
I did order a 27.5 cane creek helm for a 29 bike.
Discounted, final sale.
😅
How did you skip the whole "dry fit the fork to mark it for cutting" part?
Sometimes I have to cut footage if it slows the flow of the video down. I watch the video as a fan during the edit, and if it bores me, I'm sure it'll bore everyone else. So I routinely cut out quite a bit (especially talking lol)
@@EvansMTBSaga Sure, makes sense. Thx
Will you get a fox rear shock to match or nah.
Maybe. I like the rockshox
Bit of a strange ending, felt like the clip was cut short halfway through that “do you think i should get some carbon upgrades for this bike” sentence, like there was more to come after?
Nope that was all. Glad you watched til the end!
@@EvansMTBSaga I'd upgrade the shock next, before the seal fails. Those Rockshox Select shocks tend to have seal leak issues into the neg air and it becomes harsh (and noisy) quick. Plus it is very linear and bottoms out easily if you noticed. You won't regret swapping it 😎 Keep up the amazing work on the channel, following has been great!
Do you live in Arizona ?
1:45 that cut was 40 bucks :D
Down country? Thought the t7 is
