    Lol I just saw your segment on “How to cut up a Whole Chicken”, and watching you and your show reminded me of how my wife used to watch you on her iPad, she used to watch whenever she had the time which was almost everyday, sadly she had recently passed away in her sleep in December just before Christmas and her 54th birthday.
    I used to care for her as she was a Kidney patient and had her left leg amputated below her knee, she was a cheerful wife for the most part, but watching you made her very happy, at the end of each show she would respond to you when you said “Good Bye!” And simultaneously say “Good Bye!” With you.
    So watching your show brings back a lot of tears of sadness and smiles of happiness, she really loved too cook various types of dishes but really loved to eat Korean food often, we live in Hawaii so having a large variety of ethnicities she loved mostly the Asian foods as she herself was 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 Japanese and half Hawaiian.
    So as I debate to myself as to continue to watch your show as my wife had... or not...? I think to honor her... I would watch whenever I get hungry in remembrance of my wife.
    I would like say thank you for making my wife very happy and joyful whenever she watch your cooking shows, In Hawaiian we’d say “Mahalo” which means Thank You Maangchi and have a beautiful day! Eddie.

    I'm Indonesian and when I was little I've read a story about this 'wise' person who'd been asked by a family to divide a chicken for them. The 'wise' (actually, 'slick' is more likely 😀) person then said 'The father gets the head because he's the head of the family; the sons gets the legs because they will support their own family; the daughters gets the wings because their husbands will take them away; and the mother gets the backbone because she supports the family all the way'. The family was so pleased with this 'wisdom' and wanted to give the man a gift, but the man said 'Just give me what's left from the chicken, it's good enough for me' ... and he got away with the chicken breast 😀

    When I first moved away from home, my Grandmother gave me a knife as a "housewarming" gift, but told me I had to pay her a penny, as knives were bad luck as gifts. So Maangchi, some of we Americans have a similar practice as you Koreans. It's a small world, after all, to quote a famous song. Thank you for your chicken cutting demonstration. It's very similar to how I do it, but, until you told about it, I didn't know about the oysters. So, thank you, so very much. I will, from here on!

      @take_the_box 8 лет назад +45

      Your english is brilliant! One thing - you wrote "it has so many of the chicken's skin", when instead we say "it has so much of...". This is because we say "many" for things you can count (e.g chicken thighs, green onions) and we use "much" for things we can't count (e.g skin, hair). I hope you don't think I'm being rude, I just wanted to help you with your English. What is your favourite chicken dish from your home country? :D

    In Germany, people prefer chicken breast because its very lean and considered healthy meat choice. But its also very tasteless and tends to be dry. So, my family buys legs and roasts them in the oven after marinating. So skin is crispy and inside juicy and soft. However, almost every part of it is eaten. Hearts and stomach, too. Just less popular.

    Super helpful video. I watched various ones before doing my first chicken and messed up. This is the easiest to understand and now it goes much better ! Love using the various parts for homemade chicken stock - so getting the whole chicken makes sense and it’s not that much more work to prep

    Hello, in france what is considered the best part is the oysters, we call it sot-l'y-laisse, meaning approximately : only idiots leave that on the carcass without eating it. Thanks to that video i will save some money buying the whole thing and cuting it! thanks!

      Same in Korea! If you ever want to break your friendship with anyone, take away their legs. Easy! Do you want to make your sister or brother cry? Take the legs ALL for yourself! :P

    Hi Maangchi, I'm from Bangladesh and even though we cook chicken very differently from koreans but we cut it the same way you showed for traditional chicken curries but the thing is most of the bengali moms don't cut the chicken with a knife they use another kind of cutting device that we call boti but I don't know how to cut stuffs with a boti so for a long time i couldn't cut chicken at home lol but after watching you cutting it perfectly with a knife I now don't have to buy cut pieces anymore thank you so much 💜💜
