aseprite has a free open source code, so technically it's free if you compile it yourself and it's not pirating software
Sweet home compiling
It's called libresprite
@@goreldeen they did?
@@goreldeen ohhh
Finally, someone mentions is. Whenever I see youtubers talking about pixel art softwares and aseprite is mentioned as a paid software being one of the downsides, I just sigh and hope someone tells them its actually free.
(I tried mentioning it, but my comment reaches no one lol)
I love how all the ui in aseprite is pixel art.
Same 😂
wonder if they made it in aseprite
@@dquack83sprite-ception. 🤯
@@dquack83 how would they, if it wasn't made yet.
@@Luvhlymiraa that's what placeholders are for
also good to note that its on steam for $10.49, basically half the price
It’s also free. You can download the source code and compile it yourself. The developers mention that it is fine with them even for commercial use on their FAQ
Steam is a gaming application repository... why is a non-game application on here?
@@le9038 steam also distributes software
@@le9038 OBS, Wallpaper Engine, Aseprite, ShareX, and many more. Why not?
i just compiled mine
since it's open source you can also compile it yourself, does take a while but lets you try it for free with all features. It's quite finicky though, it only works with the specified compiler (from MSVC) and if you so much as have the MinGW compiler installed anywhere or listed on path it will give you a major headache because whoever made CMake didn't think it was a bad idea to auto-select compilers in an arbitrary order
I don't think it's that big of a headache, the compiler I had gave me no issues when building it
Bought it last night and spent a few hours making things. I made a really cool N64 'B' button and the N64 logo! Definitepy don't regret spending $20.
Pizza tower pixel art was made on this
In that case, I am never going to touch that app.
Theres a lot of other things made in it, pizza tower being the worst
what's with the Pizza Tower hate, the game is gas and the art is great
@@Mozarella_king that's like saying "that guy I hate used this brand of spoons, I'm never going to use that brand ever again!", and that's just plain stupid
I've been using GraphicsGale for many years and its been one of my favorites for pixel art. Sadly, it feels dated but there are a few tools that I would love to have it in Aseprite.
I recently did the change and honestly, Aseprite is very great with its visuals and accessibility and I get to do works faster, so theres that.
And creating tilemaps in Aseprite? Good lord I love it!
Aseprite is open source so technically you could make whatever changes you want for missing features and compile your own custom version
@@brunch. Huh, I didn't know about that. I bought it from steam so I don't know if I can manipulate it as it is. But I will check more info on that because that is really awesome to know.
Thank you for sharing that info!
@@crazybobby14 yeah you cant do it through the steam version as far as i know
Best purchase I ever made. Making Pokémon sprites with this one
Man, i wish it was in android
Same - iOS for me, but mobile would be sick
@DrewConley let's hope that they make it on Android, and if is not, someone will make a unofficial Android port for it
A really solid alternative is Pixel Studio
omg
love you bro
thx a lot ❤❤❤❤
Many people are saying that it goes on sale often but I bought it at $20. I must say, aseprite was one of my best purchases in terms of games/software I’ve ever made. I’ve been using it for the past two years and I highly recommend it if you are able to purchase it
Same. I think I’m year 6 now. It’s the best gamedev purchase I have ever made
You can also add different pixel aspect ratios to make your art in too.
So instead of having purely square pixels, you can make them rectangles with an aspect ratio of 7:6, mimicking how they would have looked on an old CRT television when playing SNES games.
Piskel is free, has a website and an app that do the same thing, more tools, color palette support, and my friend, dads, sisters, brothers, nephews, cousins, and my other friends dads (who makes 128 x 128 bit pixel art professionally) support. Dont waste your money
I just don’t like the fact it’s only got 4 brush sizes. The smallest is still too big
That’s true, i will admit
piskel does not have more tools, but I agree that piskel is great. I got started with pixel art using it.
My gripe with Piskel is that I can't export it as like 16x16 or 32x32 resolution PNG without it getting ruined by colour merging algorithms and compression.
Thank you
Seems pretts cool for animators too
It's on steam too
on steam: 9.99$
I actually have this
You can compile its free open source code yourself too for free
We know aready
luckily i caught it for 8dollars and its great so far
fun fact: pizza tower was made with asesprite
pixel art in game maker event better and can do more then that :)
I use libresprite, a fork of aseprite
Me when he showed the palettes: NO WAY CASTLE -MAKE AND PLAY PALETTE 1 FOUND IN THE WILD 🤯 🤯
*Pixel art the online tool left the chat*
i just got it for 9.99 on steam :0
bruh... mom wont definietly agree with me if i tell her i wanna buy it and make a game, cuz u can buy lots of stuff with 10$ and its hard to get 10$
Libresprite
libresprite is aseprite bit different but free
@@NatePlayzSmth is it like what inkscape is to adobe animator?
@@adamgaming-ku1xg no its the exact same app, except its free and open source
@@adamgaming-ku1xgNo, it's LITERALLY Aseprite. It's a free fork of the open-source program Aseprite.
Can you make a video on it?
My interest was lost when I heard I had to pay for it.
Can you do a full tutorial on aseprite to gdevelop (including how to trigger the animations you have made)
just convert gif to png that gdevelop uses
@@robertmsrs123 What png does gdevelop use
@@TL4546b what do you mean? resolution....? it uses stack of png files for sprite animation.
Dotpict is a good mobile option
I wish it was on ipad aswell
Its price is not $19. Its real price is $9.30.
No it's 19.99
I'm somehow being able to animate pixle sprites with ibis paint X
Still prefer gimp for pretty much any art including pixel art tbh
i got aseprite off steam 💀
What abt smack studio?
I alr have it but sad that it's not for phone 😂
*_MEGA MAN_*
My aseprite just crashes and keeps taking screenshot, can someone Help me pls
i use pixel studio, its really good
is it free?
@@DinStarAnimationsits free, but one problem with it is that many of the features are locked behind the pro version (not a membership but still not free) id recommend libresprite practically like a twin to asesprite but free
It's even free in steamunlocked
I cant find the app :(
its not mobile if thats what your talking about
Yo ia that peppino at the start!?
Smack studio is much better i Can Make your chacter 3D an so much more
You had me until money
And needing a computer
Those cost money
Aseprite
it dont really matter bro undertale was made in paint
Haha pixel.
I got it and it gave me nothing 😊
it cost 20$
Ludzie są okropni, jak byłam mała to dziewuchy starsze mnie biły i ludzie nas mijali mimo że wołałam pomocy
Are you an arrgh pirate or a yo-ho-ho pirate?
im an "Im not paying 20 bucks for a pixel paint program" pirate
Trust me, it’s worth the money
same
got a link? 👀
@hentaisailor5951 just compile it yourself and its not even piracy...
@@FaultBoyyyes
Good thing, you can compile the program yourself for free, so it’s not piracy to get it free. That way if you try it and like it, you can support the developers after
The makers of this are a small team, better your money going there than to any AAA studio
What's it called
read u monke
Aseprite
steamunlocked
No because it only makes miniatures
IM NOT GONNA CHANGE MSPAINT
I love MS Paint. If that works for you, rock on!
just pirate it or do what heolity said and compile the free code
Please buy it whenever you can swing it.
Why would you pirate open source software?
smack studio is better tbh
that program is for those who don’t want to animate. (no offense, just saying lol)
@@prin_kh6797 it is an animation software my guy, it is for people that don't want to draw every frame by hand
(although it kinda sucks as of right now)
Or just pirate it and after you make some money buy it 👍
Gimp is better and free
better?? How so?
@@DrewConley 1. more random behaviors when using tools generating unique idea's when creating art. 2. You can use layers as template timelines. 3. More pre configured brushes and you can make custom brushes. 4. Its free. 5. It supports more file types.
@@Darkyahweh I’m learning and all this is very new to me could you break this down so I could understand easier what you means the the tools generation ect… thank you 🙏
And layered as template timelines*^
@@DarkyahwehGimp is also unintuitive, unfriendly to newcomers, and not built with pixel art in mind.
Piskel is better and free
Idk if i’d say better. I haven’t used aseprite but it seems a bit more developed. I use piskel all the time and it’s really great, especially since it’s a website so you don’t have to download anything. While it has several strengths, it is still rather basic. For a beginner like me, it’s plenty. At the same time, I don’t know if I’d say it’s better.
i have pirated it XD
Libresprite:
libresprite is free, and its asesprite
it lacks features
aseprite is literally just as free if you can bother to compile it, and I'm sure someone who can't spare 20 bucks definitely can spare half an hour to save said 20
@@justalonelypoteto i tried multiple times and failed (on Fedora linux)
Aseprite is free, and it’s aseprite
Libresprite is basically the same program. Ot looks the same. It's not some knock off, it's Aseprite from when it was open source.
Me who got aseprite for free :
libresprite, compiling, or piracy?
@@spudseeker dubno i just searched :
دانلود aseprite
@@spudseeker is it considered piracy when it can be legally compiled and used commercially for free? Pirating it at that point is essentially just having someone compile it for you.
@@hak0bu it is piracy, because you can't redistribute the compiled version. I don't care though, I've pirated it before.
